- I am a single mom (by choice) who adopted her daughter Alexandra, six years ago. Since 1996, I have lived in downtown Manhattan.
I was born in Japan to Japanese mother and black father. Because my father was in the Air Force, we moved between Asia and the United States until I was 10 where we settled in the Northern Virginia suburbs, outside Washington, D.C.
I am a graduate of Miami University (Oxford, Ohio) and Thunderbird, The Garvin School of International Management (Glendale, Arizona).
Because of my early childhood background, I have a love of travel and traveled throughout Japan, Southeast Asia and Europe.
Like so many thousands of people, I was laid off from a financial services company in December 2008 and took the opportunity to realize a passion for writing and started this blog to chronicle my life as African-American woman raising a child by choice on her own in New York City.

Recently, I posted a product review and received several posts from my readers that they were either leaving or not happy that I was posting so many product reviews versus posts about my life. Thats why they were there to read about my life.

Single Mom Recessionary Tips

Since I was laid off, I have had to pare down my expenses. Here is my list of achievements so far and yes, I have more to do.
Any cost saving tips are most welcome.
1. Created a budget and signed onto Mint.com- Mint.com is a site that you enter in all your banking/credit cards/assets/create a budget. It tracks all of it so at the minimum you can see how your doing versus your budget. Do I stick to the budget? No, but hey it's a start, right. Work with me,… Continue

Tweet Up Event with Suze Orman

Last Friday, I was invited to the first ever Tweet Up with Suze Orman, hosted by Avon.
Before providing details about the event, it has to be said that I felt like a Luddite or one of those grandparents who still doesn't have email. This was a tweet up event, right? So there I was, the only one without a computer or blackberry/IPhone to send in our twitter posts. All I had was a pad and pencil and my Motorola RAZR (remember when the RAZR was the coolest phone on the earth and cost… Continue

I have one 4-year-old daughter. She is full of life, happiness and extremely smart. She speaks almost as well as I do at this point! Her vocabulary is out of this world and she has a great sense of humor. She loves Tinkerbell, Peter Pan, Dora the explorer, soccer, dancing and can't ever get enough of playing with her cousins and friends.
