The Story of My Perspective

Nine year’s ago, I celebrated my first Mother’s Day as a true mother.  I will never forget that day and the feelings that went with it. A day to recognize the hard work, loyalty and devotion of women everywhere who make the most difficult job in the world look easy.  I was honored to become a member of the tribe. It’s also a day for me to remember the role my own mother played in my life and still plays, and seems like a perfect time to share with you where my personal perspective comes from. We…See More

Little Miss Perfect

I have a sensitive child.  She is beautiful, considerate, intelligent, exceptionally well mannered, and very, very sensitive. Her sensitivity is one of the things I admire about her the most, and one of the greatest challenges in parenting her.  Besides being the What If Child, she worries mostly about being perfect.  She wants to have the best grades in the class, be the…See More

The He/She Cat

Back in December, we were very excited to surprise our children with a fluffy new addition to our family in the form of a kitten.  The level of shock and excitement from the kids when they discovered her was an amazing gift to me in itself.  She was so soft and cuddly and loveable, exactly the kind of kitten we hoped for.  She was also spastic, full of energy and quickly ruined half of our furniture with her razor sharp nails on her double paws.  But she was beautiful and delicate and we all…See More

College Planning- The Prerequisite Course

Every job has its parts that we could live without.  For me, there is a significantly large part of my job that I am not a fan of. I mean, I really, really don’t care for it. College counseling.  Its not for me and is by far, my biggest pet peeve.  Which is unfortunate, because it takes up a large chunk of my time I feel would be better spent doing other things.Let me begin with an Opinionated Fact. …See More

The Sex Talk

I will never forget being in elementary school and my mother sitting me down to have the dreaded sex talk.  I can still see her sitting in the brown chair of our living room and hear her speak those disturbing, scary words, like penis, vagina and babies coming out of it. Oh. My. God.  Is she really saying these things?  Make it stop, God, please, make it stop, I remember thinking. So when my daughter asked me…See More

Q&A Liar, Liar, Pants on Fire

QUESTIONI have a very imaginative 8 year old boy who lies all the time. Sometimes it’s to get himself out of trouble, sometimes it’s just to add to the conversation as an “expert”.  How do I channel his imagination and need to be part of discussions in a positive way?MY PERSPECTIVEImagination or no imagination, everyone lies at some point and the reasons for doing so are consistent.  Either we are trying to protect ourselves or someone else from others’ disapproval, or we are looking for…See More

Q&A Why Don't You Listen to Me?

QUESTIONI have three daughters, 13, 16 and 18 and the oldest two have strikingly different but very strong personalities. Throughout their childhoods they have fought and they have grown older the words hurt and wound more profoundly. I have always had a keen interest in the subject of emotional intelligence and have regularly explained to both daughters the importance of explaining calmly what is upsetting them, rather than resorting to being nasty and bitchy.  I explain that becoming…See More

Nostalgia

Nostalgiaby Lynn on February 12, 2012Nostalgia. I don’t know if its hormonal or just something that happens when a small human being comes into your life and touches your heart in spots that quite possibly could have been black before (maybe its just me). But something bizarre happened when my kids came into my life. I became extra, super, cry reading cards in the store, cry when watching Oprah on the treadmill at the gym, cry when driving by the elementary school at the thought of my babies…See More
