A 30-ish mother of 3 and unintentional entrepreneur, I started my own IT Consultancy firm after layoffs at my old job. I balance the world of Corporate IT with my life as Manager of the education, health and well-being of my children. I write from the Caribbean, blogging about the joys and trials of mothering a toddler girl, and two boys under the age of 10, one of whom has just been diagnosed with Aspergers.

Absent Minded Mama, or 3 Signs you Need to Slow It Down!

Somewhere in my childhood I was told that "Boredom is a state of mind".It was probably drummed into my enterprising young mind by somewell-meaning teacher back in the pre-videogame and cable-tv days here inTrinidad, and clearly it took hold, because I could always find ways tokeep myself occupied.* Paint T-shirts and sell them to friends - check. * Crochet and beaded chokers, bracelets and necklaces for sale and as gifts - check. * Teach myself to play the guitar, and practice for hours on end…See More

Permission to be the Brand

I have long been lamenting the dwindling interest in historical sites and events in my area. Places that hold memories of my childhood where I was in wonder at this world around me. Places that this new generation is missing, stuck behind a Wii or TV. How to reach out and get them out there? Somebody has to do something. What can I do? Ideas were "bandied" about and, there being strength in numbers, an idea for a group project formed fuzzily. No definite plans made, it remained a hazy…See More

Carefree Abandon

20-08-2009Today I was reminded of what childhood carefree abandon felt like.As I watched my boys frolic in the water in the hot hot sun with their friends I was transported back to my childhood. It didn't start out that way. With Aunty Stacy at the top of the water slides, I positioned myself at the splash pool at the foot of the slides. On the lookout for anything or anyone that could cause any harm to come to our group of boys. But as the time wore on, and as I assessed that the lifeguards…See More

What it's all about

It's been a rough few days with seeming more lows than highs in the mix. But as usual I made it through, with some laughs and love from my babies. I thought I'd share some of the photo memories that helped soothe my frazzled nerves. This is from a family vacation in 2006 when we took a drive to the North coast with our neighbours.Sunrise…See More

Hacked!

Ok so mere hours after I submitted that last post on the Trojan being used to carry out increasingly widespread fraud within the US, and the work at home scam that gets them their "mules", guess what happened?

Well you read the post title so you already know. I was hacked!

Work at Home scam

Those of you who've followed me for a while know that I work in I.T.

For over 10 years, I've also worked in the Financial Services industry. My mom's a career banker, so I guess you could say it's in my blood.

I've seen a lot scams in my time and I've seen the controls we put in place to alert and mitigate. You could say it's shaped my…
