"Man Up!"?

Newsweek magazine recently published an article, "Man Up! The Traditional Male Is an Endangered Species, It’s time to re-think masculinity" which seems to have received mixed reviews. On the O'Reilly show on FOX News, the host, Bill O'Reilly appeared to avoid a meaningful discussion with guest Gretchen Carlson by resorting to childish antics that did nothing but dummy…See More

I like to think that I am the queen of the castle. In fact, I frequently remind my boys of that fact. The level of testosterone in my house can be overwhelming as even my dog is male! When I really stop to think about it, I realize that I have the opportunity to create good husbands someday.

Before I had all these boys in my life (Four boys;, ages 8, 5, 2 and 7 months. A wonderful husband. A male dog) I wasn’t even thinking about ever getting married much less having children or the responsibility of a pet. You meet the right guy and things change.

I did the professional thing for a while. I worked in marketing. It was exciting. Once I had my first child, I couldn’t imagine going back to work on a full-time basis, so I decided to try to work as a marketing communications consultant. One thing led to another and nearly 10 years later, I’m still trying to blend the two worlds of work and family. I’ve worked on some great projects for clients nationwide. From designing and writing websites, newsletters, email campaigns, logos, marketing plans, public relations campaigns, brochures and more.

Why this blog? Whenever I go anywhere with my children, I am constantly bombarded with comments from random people like, “Wow. Four boys. You must be busy!” or “Four boys! You’re life must be crazy! How can you handle it?!”. I want to slap these people. They drive me crazy. My boys are the least of my troubles. They are really a joy and I wanted to create a forum for people with boys. For those who need help as well as for people who really want a community of moms with similar experiences. A place where we can gather and share information that might in someway help to create responsible, respectful, confidant men for our future.

Top 10 Ways to Create an Independent Son

Being a parent is one of the hardest jobs you'll ever have. While raising competent, responsible individuals capable of making sound decisions is every parents goal, creating a balance of nurture with freedom can be a difficult balance for a parent to achieve. In my opinion, being a good parent means providing a consistent framework of guidance and nurture while letting go of a little control so your child can confidently learn how to make good choices independently. Someone once told me, a… Continue

Toddlers and Gender Differences

My 2 year-old is a little like Jekyll and Hyde. One moment he’s a really nice guy to have around. He’s funny and has wonderful manners…(says “please”, “thank you”, “your welcome” and a proper “yes” (not yep) without me having to ask him to). Then in a flash, his personality can just change…into a whiny little terror. He screams at decibels higher than I ever thought the human voice could reach. We all cringe. Our moods change. Before you know it, one child is rolling his eyes in annoyance with… Continue

I did check out your blog and it was really good. I subscribed. I just started blogging but it is becoming quite a cathartic and fun hobby. I have 2 boys that are 13 months (2 and 3 years old) apart so it gets crazy at times. I tell you what though, no offense to girls, I really like having just boys. I also look forward to getting to know you. Thanks for accepting my invite.

Four boys, wow. It must be tough to have your husband away for the week. Mine leaves for 3 days here and there and though I can handle it taking care of my two boys alone gets a little rough. I am going to go check out your blog AND send you a friend request because I totally agree with you about people assuming boys are so much harder to deal with. If you'd like to accept me and check me out feel free to go to my profile page here or my blog http://thematernalexperiment.blogspot.com
Hope to talk to you soon.
