Imagine a lovely mom n’ pop restaurant on a beachy island. Perfect ambiance, honest food, good service. It’s also the last day of your family vacation, so you’re looking forward to a little celebrating at the dinner table.

The tomatoes on the salad are ruby-red and farm-fresh, the newly baked brown bread steams with delight, the shrimp are gianormous and cooked perfectly and the crab bisque….ahh, that sensuous, mouth-watering, swooningly-delicious fresh soup. All is peaceful…

Recently we had some powerful storms rip through the area, causing widespread blackouts. Contrary to popular belief, losing electricity isn’t all that bad. Depending on how long it’s lost for, of course!

Some of the "upsides" to going without power I found were:

• Having an excellent excuse to make a meal out of ice cream.

• Not feeling the need to check my social networking sites/emails/etc because I…

This summer, I'm taking another round of "swimming" classes with my toddler. For her, it's a way to get comfortable in the water; I know she will not master the art of the backstroke but she will learn to float on her back.

But for me, it's a lesson on what not to wear, what to bring and what to really do in the water with my tot! (Yes moms and dads, if you want your child to blow bubbles in the pool then you too must insert face in water!)

Recently, my blog partner (Yin Mama) & I got into a conversation about leg hair. Mo'Nique's appearance at the various movie award shows sparked the topic. Mo'Nique doesn't shave her legs and is not embarassed to wear outfits that show off her legs. She's not the first, nor the last. But in our culture, leg hair is a definate no-no for women.

So do you think it's gross/lazy not to shave? Or is it really OK? Does a women's profession dictate when she should…
