Ahhh... the good ole lunch box / snack-box challenge. And yes, if your good parenting then you know it is exactly that - a challenge! Oh sure it's easy if your just gonna throw any ole edible item and beverage in there, but if you are attempting to provide a healthy, yet delicious snack or lunch for your child, with the hopes he won't trade it for someone else's junk food, then you know the constraints of the situation.
A child's energy,… Continue

It's amazing the way the birthday celebrations go on and on. We had already had a family party
for all our January birthday people. Then, Munch got her favorite dinner (mac and cheese) on her birthday along with a cake on her ACTUAL birthday.
And after all that, of course we had the friends… Continue

Recognizing Harmful Chemicals and Avoiding them!
Did you know many chemicals used in our everyday products have warnings, retrictions and very limited research as to potential health effects on humans? We think if a product has been approved by the FDA and is on the shelves that is must be safe - and only now are we realizing that isn't the case and it's up to us to determine safer alternatives.
* Cosmetics * Baby Care Products * Shampoos * Soaps *Cleaning Items * Air… Continue

Last night, I posted a letter to readers regarding the Babies R Us Great Trade-In Event
. I have concerns about what happens to used gear once it's deposited with BRU - is it triaged and donated, or simply trashed? With the recent disaster in Haiti, and plenty of other families in crisis here at home and around the world, I was hoping to see some mention in their marketing about… Continue

I am pleading with the SUN. Please come back. Bring me warmth, energy, and enthusiasm. Take away the cold, blistering wind. Destroy my sweaters, wool socks, and mittens. Bring me sundresses, flip flops, and sunscreen. Keep me warm, tan, and freckled…..a pool by my feet, a cocktail within reach. All of this, in Mother Nature’s name I pray, AMEN.
It’s winter in good old Pennsylvania, and I absolutely hate it. How do I cope? Not well. Chocolate Fudge Torte, Apple Cake, Fudge… Continue

I did not walk into the library today with the intention of playing head games with the brittle-boned, fastidious, In-Rules-We-Trust librarian. But she, and her rule fixation, drove me to it. Two polar opposites come together and you get this sort of chemical reaction.
She is eyeing me in my sweats and frizzy curls. I am eyeing her beige, ironed…is that a Dorothy Hamill haircut? I almost say it out loud. The way I would shout with excitement: Is that an original Spyrograph?!!! if I… Continue

So we’ve made it to February, which is usually the time when folks have either fallen off the New Year’s resolution wagon or take a step back to assess how they are doing.
I am happy to report that I am doing great! OK, it might have something to do with the fact that I don’t really do resolutions. My theory is that I suffer enough. So, while I’m raising small kiddos, I get a resolution “free pass”. Do we mamas really need extra stress and self induced pressure?
I get that… Continue

Currently, Husband has a new title. For the next month and a half, he will otherwise be known as Mr. Mom (I also like House Husband, but I'm not sure he'll be so crazy about that one). We were fortunate that he could arrange his schedule around my return to work, making the transition for me a bit easier. While it is tough leaving Baby S each morning, I am comforted knowing that Mr. Mom is taking care of business at home. It's quite possible that this will be the most undivided quality time he… Continue

I have always found it interesting that women have such diverse reactions to their periods. When I was a teenager, I started my period very late, around seventeen, and by that time had already shared in the agony with friends of mine who started much earlier than I did. Menstruation natural remedies were not considered at that time, and it was pretty much over the counter medicines that were being used for help for painful periods.
About 2 years… Continue
