Unrestful Observations

"The quickest way for a parent to get a child's attention is to sit down and look comfortable."

Children are both smart and ruthless. They all have a sixth sense on when their parental units finally have a moment to breathe and they leap into action, determined to never allow a second of peace. MY kids have this down to a science.

Today is a typical day. By the time 10AM rolled around I…

Flavor of the Month

As a mom I feel like I am supposed to be eager to listen to my childrens discussions about their favorite topics. I am supposed to listen, make smart comments that don't include "Uh huh" "(yawn) cool" and "that's nice dear". I am supposed to engage them in…

The Sex Talk

I will never forget being in elementary school and my mother sitting me down to have the dreaded sex talk.  I can still see her sitting in the brown chair of our living room and hear her speak those disturbing, scary words, like penis, vagina and babies coming out of it. Oh. My. God.  Is she really saying these things?  Make it stop, God, please, make it stop, I remember thinking.…

Turning 50 - Looking and Feeling Great!

As I age I notice that I do not exercise the way I used to. For one thing, I no longer care as much about the latest fitness trend. I still enjoy the social sports like golf and enjoy swimming, yoga and skiing when I can. The reality is that none of these are consistent. I have never been a runner and quite frankly it hurts my feet, knees and back. So, my regular exercise regimen simply consists of walking almost everyday. I do anywhere from two to five miles.…

The Succulent Wives' Dress the Oscar Nominees

We’re girls. We love the movies. We love the Academy Awards. Well, not really. We put up with them because we get to watch Hollywood glam for three (four?) hours. And, mostly, we get to do lots of backseat drivingstylin’.

Just as we did last year, we thought we’d have some fun…

My new blog...

I am new to blogging and have a lot to say!  We recently moved 1400 miles away from our home and it's taught me a lot, along with the last few years of my life.  Enjoy reading and let me know about your blog.

Moving on...

I read a blog post the other day that really got me thinking. It was basically about what people making decisions in their lives need to hear and how selfish we all can be when the people in our lives make decisions that we don't agree with.  (At least, that is my interpretation of this particular post.)

Being that my husband and myself have recently made a HUGE life change by moving 1400 miles away from our home with our young son.  It has been an eye opening process in the…

And Just Like That

My grand nephew (and here we are with me feeling really old) is an adorable little fellow who we have just found out has some pretty big medical problems looming over his head. He's headed in for surgery this coming Tuesday, to drain some of the fluid that has accumulated on his brain and also for a large battery of tests to…

Co-Sleeping

Once in awhile I get an email from some random mom site I signed up for long time ago. 99% of the time I tend to trash them without giving them a look. But one title last week stood out to me. It was "Is Co-Sleeping Always a Bad Idea?".

If you had asked me this three years ago I may have tilted my head to the side as I pondered that question with serious thoughts to both sides of the argument. However, three kids later my answer was fast and furious: NO!

Let me…

Things I've Learned This Week

** If I ever turn up missing, a vineyard in Sonoma is most likely where you'll find me.

** My daughter thinks I was born in 1818.  Seriously, she asked if that was my birth year.  WTF?!

** Entirely too many people think they have the right of way.

** Elementary School Open House could also be referred to as Nuts on a Stick. …

Pay It With Cash!

In today’s current economy everyone is cutting back on spending and not using credit cards. I know my family is currently trying to pay off credit cards and debt so we have more money per month.  Using coupons has helped us tremendously reach this goal.  As prices go up, I can still spend $50.00 to $100.00 per week on groceries. Last year we really cut our spending and didn’t vacation.  This year, our family needs a vacation!  We also need new living room furniture. My current set is over 10…
