I have three daughters, 13, 16 and 18 and the oldest two have strikingly different but very strong personalities. Throughout their childhoods they have fought and they have grown older the words hurt and wound more profoundly. I have always had a keen interest in the subject of emotional intelligence and have regularly explained to both daughters the importance of explaining calmly what is upsetting them, rather than resorting to being nasty and bitchy.…Continue

My friends and I went for dinner at a shop just opposite the Tesco in Ipoh Garden South. We parked the car at the Tesco compound and practically we could see our car from the place where we sat actually...
After dinner we walked back to the parking lot and I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw this.. I had to take a second look before I exclaimed to my friends.... "HEY, is that a broken window??"…

Betty was ON FORM.
She tried to sit up.
She blew raspberries.
She rolled over.
She broke the scales.
What a show off. She is definitely my daughter.
Amongst my cynicism, my rib ticklingly witty ways and my modesty, I must make one point very clear.
I love my daughter. I love her incredibly. I love her wholly. I love her so…Continue

As Spring approaches, I thought I would incorporate a few "spring cleaning" tips with my jewelry business. As a jewelry designer/artist, I use all types of metals. Whether your jewelry is silver plated or sterling silver, copper or brass, even 14 karat gold it is susceptible to "turning".

Did you know that heart disease and stroke claim 2200 American lives per day? That's 1 death every 39 seconds! The American Heart Association projects that if we continue this trend, the cost of heart disease will triple by the year 2030. I don't know about you, but that really scares me! Whether you have a loved one or know someone with heart issues or not, you'll be paying for it. Everybody will.
In December 2011, the American…Continue

Yes, this V-day craft is about a week late, but in my defense, I had it completed on the day.
This is a project that has been going around. I found it in Family Fun Magazine and decided to expound on the theme.
I mentioned in an earlier post that I found some $2 shirts on my thrift shopping adventure.…Continue

It was a dark and stormy night.
No it wasn’t. It was a fine night as far as the weather goes, but as we sat our two daughters down in the living room to tell them that I had breast cancer, the storm raging inside my brain was pretty harrowing. I attempted a brave face while my husband told the…Continue

There is one thing that someone can say to me that annoys me more than anything else. Usually because of the type of questions that I ask in order to recieve this particular response, it will be coming from my partner. This then usually results in me wanting to scream with frustration as I picture bashing him round the head with a saucepan or other heavy object. What reply am I talking about? ..."When the time is right".
In our five years together, I've heard this MANY times from…

I see her looking out the window.
The glass fogs up with every exhale.
I'm watching her... as I so often do.
She is my daughter yet she's so much more. She is my window to youth, to mystery, to seeing the world in a different light.
How could such a little person teach me so much? She has taught me how to love and to understand how God must love His children. She has taught me that everything is an adventure waiting to be embarked upon, and a mystery…

BB's chunky rolls are a source of much mentioned cuteness and unparalleled joy in our house. The bounding layers of podge that signal her endearing gluttony are the stuff babies should be made of. She's sturdy, she's solid, she can be chucked around a bit without the worry that a part of her will fall off. She makes a formidable door stop. That's my kind of human.
But. Ample, chubby, rosy cheeked six month old - good. Corpulent, obese, lardy two year old - very bad.
So. We could…

I have tried to spend my day updating my blog while catering to 3 very bossy, very cute, very active little people. I realized today that the one page on my blog that could very well be neglected is my ‘A Women’ page. It seems that all the folklore about how a mom with little kids loses herself and perhaps some of her womanhood is actually true. I managed to shower today, but couldn’t get time to brush my hair, so its up in its standard…Continue

My little princess broke two wooden boards the other night - one with a palm strike, the other with a sidekick. The first board broke on the initial try. With the second board, it took her two kicks to break it.
It was part of her tae kwon do graduation to a higher belt. I sat in the audience, holding my breath. I wasn't feeling well, coming down with a cold or flu - likely whatever was being passed around at the local elementary - and I felt cranky and out of…Continue

You know what? It's alright being me.
I have a good old moan on here, but if I'm honest, these two are doing a decent job of making my life tick over pretty well.
My dinner for example - it is prepared, warmed and tested before arriving spot on the hour, at four well set intervals throughout the day. Yeah, the milk is bland, but after a series of dirty protests (they do take a while to catch on) Mum and Dad have begun to serve up some heartier, more flavoursome grub. Mashed up…Continue
