The Weight of My Weight

I am struggling. I stepped on the scale and I definitely felt a seismic rumble as the digital numbers flashed up (oh horror) then back down (relief) and then back up again; two pounds since Sunday. I cannot plead ignorance, my husband's de facto position. His immediate response is to question the findings, "This, can’t be right. I don’t know how this could have happened", uttered with a righteous indignation that would fill any politician with pride.

No I do not do this. I know exactly… Continue

Mean Parents Suck,...There, I Said It

Please, stop being mean to your kids in public. I don’t care if you're a redneck in Wal-Mart or picking up an espresso in Starbucks. You look and sound like a witch when you are rude or snarky to your own kids in public.

they are kids, they are supposed to ask a lot of bizarre questions, fidget and touch stuff. (Once Mary's dad said, "stop touching all the buildings", so, who sounded like an ass, Mary or Mary's dad?

Seriously, do you think anyone wants to invite you over for a beer or a…

{this moment: a glimpse}

{this moment} - A Friday ritual. A single photo - no words - capturing a moment from the week. A simple, special, extraordinary moment. A moment I want to pause, savor and remember.

This week I'm sharing a glimpse of the newest member of our family.

Hooked

Jesus called out, "Come along with me and I will show you how, to fish for the souls of men!". Matthew 5:19...Bait your hot, R&B hook and cast your blazin' 16 lines, in...synced up with a producer, accredited and respected by men. Let your bars and verses, prophesy about, Him...the Lord and Savior of all men. Hard core singing and rapping...dedicated to, the King of Fisherman.

Then cast the… Continue

Poo-Poo Gumballs

My husband’s name should be the Candy Man, not Colby. Colby is a man with a penchant for all things sweet. Usually this isn’t a problem, but when it involves two little co-conspirators, then it can becomes a problem. I can’t trust Colby to go to the grocery store for me without him coming home with candy, ice cream, or baked goods. Somehow, when I send him out for broccoli, I get broccoli plus refined white sugar products.

Got my craft on today! My nes crocheted headband

First off I would like to say that this wonderful project was not my own creation. Nope.  I went Stumbling around a few nights ago and found a great tutorial on how to make a crocheted headband.

I am not a great crocheter (is that a word?). I learned how to crochet in High School from a friend.  She was able to teach me even though I am left handed. And she taught me how to crochet like a righty.  Yay for being… Continue

Little Rest also brings Rewards

In a few weeks we start lambing. It's one of the busiest times of year and even though incredibly hard work, it's always particularly rewarding. A minimum of three weeks work, 24 hours a day.

Hiroshima in the Morning – A blog tour book review

I  just finished reading a beautifully written book that I received as part of a blog book review tour from Feminist Press. Did you know that some younger women do not like to be called feminists? What is up with that? But I digress.

Hiroshima in the Morning – a video from the author. Hiroshima in the Morning (click…

Please, no more - I've been over pitched

I'm cleaning out my e-mail listings this week. Ruthlessly. I just can't take it anymore. I've been over pitched. Stop trying to sell me stuff. Just stop.

Goodbye, motivational coaches, whose weekly posts are thinly disguised ads for your services, self-promotions, and heaven help me - your cruises. No offense, but if I go on a cruise, I want champagne and roses - not whine and cheese.

So long, self-help gurus, who send weekly dollops of advice sandwiched between…

Jars of clay (with a few cracks and chips)

In 2003 my husband and I moved to China. We lived in Beijing for two years.

Not a lengthy amount of time – certainly not long enough for me to claim expert status on Chinese people or their customs – but just long enough for me to accumulate lots of stuff. If you’ve ever lived overseas you probably know what I’m talking about. While shopping in fantastic open-air markets, quite often a small, very persistent and somewhat annoying voice whispers in your ear: “You may never…

Workout Gear to Fancy this Spring

Finally, days are getting longer and, though I hate the feeling of losing an hour, Daylight Savings time (March 13) means that there will be light when working out in the wee hours of the morning. Just enough to make those early bird workouts somewhat less painful. So, if like me, you are looking forward to hitting the pavement instead of the treadmill, we thought that you would enjoy these particular finds:…
