These Darn Kids: Rule #1 Accountability

Ok, I have a 10, 11, 13, and 14 year old, plus a 19 year that recently moved to Florida. Now I must say raising kids is one of the toughest jobs or most important role one can have. My 14 yr old is in 9th grade, in honor classes, but he has skipped a few class and been acting out some but I refuse to let him go down the wrong path.

My 13 year old is clueless, 10 year acts like a baby, my 11 year is a drama queen, and I am stuck in between the madness. They are all talented and…

Party Preparations

One great thing about our new, larger house is the ability to actually have guests over. We already held the small family party for Jellybean's birthday, but this Saturday, I'm excited to host a real two year old birthday party and invite some of her little…

Pretty Please With A Mahoosive, Juicy, Gratitude Laced Cherry On Top

Yeeeeehaaaa! I've been nominated for something! You know what this means, don't you? It means I'VE LANDED. With all seven of you.

Let's be honest. In fact, let's be brutal. No one reads this blog.  Not really. The only people that will vote for me are my husband, Mum, Dad and sister. That's where you come in, Nan.…

Feaking Out and Laughing Like Crazy

I have always said that one thing I wanted to strive for in parenting is to keep the lines of communication flowing between me and the kids. I want us to be able to talk about anything and everything. I want to be the one who explains the big life lessons, the hard questions, and the life changing decisions that come their way.

I was slapped in the face with one of these instances and I flat out panicked. OH MY FREAKING GOODNESS!!!!

All I have to say is that I am…

Man VS Fish

We lined up for the weigh in.
The silvery Cod registered at a small but mightily smelly 150g.
I tipped the scales at a nervous but determined 3,000,007g.
Press reports of the plucky underdog set to face the grisly gill-toting destroyer abound - but I drowned out all the frenzied media attention with complete concentration on my torturous training regime. Nothing would disturb my focus.
With Rocky music blaring tinnily from our kitchen radio…

Buying and Selling Eggs, Sperm and Embryo's is a crime here in Canada!!!!

Finally after 8 years of the Assisted Human Reproduction Act coming into play the police are laying down the law and investigating some questionable  practices in the fertility trade in Canada.  The AHRA act clearly states that the exchange of money for Sperm, Eggs, Embryos or the Services for Surrogate Mothers is a crime here in Canada.  Then why have people been receiving money under the guise of such actions.  Last month the RCMP raided an Ontario Agency called the …

Big Chop w/ Confidence :-)

During my transitioning to natural hair, I would think about doing the big chop, but never actually did the deed. It took me 11 months to finally get up enough courage, (Yes COURAGE!) to cut my hair, but I did it and I do not have any regrets.

In my opinion, it takes a lot of courage to cut off something you have grown accustom too, something that has been a safety net for as long as I can remember. Not to mention, eliminating the ability when having a bad hair day…

They outgrow us so much faster than we outgrow them...

Incomprehensible sounds start turning into real words, which begin linking together to make logical phrases… pointing and whining at a cup becomes a clear and articulated “juice please.” The word “baby” may even drop off the front of his name. In fact, more often, you’re finding it appropriate to address him by his first AND middle name. “Zachary Newman!” rolls of the tongue nicely in a dire situation… as in “Zachary Newman! No Gogurt™ for doggies!” or “Zachary Newman! Get…

Healthy Puffed Rice Carob Krispies

Sunday morning was another one of those "Holly Homemaker" mornings! As my son played in the family room (bouncing away to the Wiggles on the Ipad) I was preparing tomato sauce, focaccia, and some puffed rice bars for breakfast this week. I was so wrapped up in my cooking fiasco that I didn't notice that it was snack-time! Of course, I could have just grated some fruit or opened a box of cheerios, but instead I was inspired to make a baby-friendly version of my favourite treat, to which I…

Things you learn when you shop with your teen-age daughter (Hint: watch your mouth)

You learn a few things when you go shopping with your teen-age daughter.

You learn that some of the most popular stores have incredibly loud music, really narrow aisles and lots of girls so skinny you could probably bench-press them.

You learn that the style of shorts that you wear on a regular basis is hopelessly uncool.

You learn that the one way to get your daughter to never, ever listen to a song again is to say that you heard it in…

Interview with Bill Swears, Author of Zook Country

Bill Swears calls himself a service brat. He was born in Great Falls, Montana. He’s lived in England, Iran, Germany, and nine states. Bill flew military helicopters for twenty-two years, seven in the Army and fifteen in the Coast Guard. He sold his first short story while he was a Coast Guard rescue helicopter pilot, and immediately began writing a book. He finished that manuscript ten years later, after retiring from active duty.…

Cheap Home Thrills

I’m all about saving money any where I can. With today being the first day of Spring! It’s time to take a look at the house and see how we can save money there.  Here are a few ideas to help you save money.

1.  Turn down the thermostat. Either turn up the AC so it’s a little warmer or turn the heat down so it’s running cooler (depending on your part of the country).

2. Run your washer after everyone has taken showers.  This will have the water…
