Breastfeeding & Mental Health

Between my wife and I we have two things that we are really passionate about. For very personal reasons those two things are mental health awareness and breastfeeding. We have supported each other through difficult times in these areas and there are lots of overlapping themes in the care for the two.

From experience I can say that the main thing that mental health illnesses and breastfeeding have in common are the need for support. Strong unconditional support.

Breastfeeding…

The main characteristics of a good office chair

Back problems are often caused by seats that do not meet the requirements of the modern Office. Most of us are accustomed to bending and we do not know when to begin improving the way we sit. We sit on seats that are not designed to meet the modern requirements of our physique.

As far as the size of the office surface is concerned, it is determined by the space available and the type of work for which it is intended. However, it is important that the floor height does not exceed 0.75…

How We Found Out Gluten is the Devil

I was a skinny kid, who has since filled out – mostly in the rear (thank you Kim Kardashian for making that fashionable). Matt also is a skinny man, the skinniest, like has to force a pint of Ben and Jerry’s down his throat to gain weight. I’m a saint for listening to his weight-gain troubles. A saint. Because of our own body shapes, for years doctors told us Lexi was just small because we were small. It made sense.

Flash forward to moving back to RI and…

You’ll Never Believe all the Crap in This Messy Mom Car! From MomCaveTV

Since having kids, my car has taken on a life of it’s own. No matter how hard I try, it becomes a landfill in a matter of hours. Between school drop off and pickups, traveling to Cub Scouts and dance lessons, and of course, constant trips to the grocery story, pediatrician and pharmacy, we spend an average of two hours per day in the car.

My husband and I have a long-standing argumentfriendly debate about how to keep a car clean. As in, he thinks we can and I think it’s…

A B to Jay-Z Is The Coolest Kids Book Ever

You'll be hard-pressed to find a parent who disparages the timelessness of classic Mother Goose nursery rhymes, but for parents looking for a children's book with more octane, look no further than A B to Jay-Z. Adding a healthy hit of urbanity into homes around the world, A B to Jay-Z stays true to its claim, “If you're having alphabet problems I feel bad for you son, I got 99 problems but my ABC's ain't one.”…

Sending the kids to Grandma's house

My wonderful Mother recently took my son for the day. When I picked him up, he was very upset that he had to leave. Over the next few days, a series of stories about what they did in that one day together came out (played werewolf, had a pillow fight, played a concert on a keyboard, took care of the cats, checked out my Step-Dad's camera collection). The amount of stuff they did in that one day is almost staggering and I now understand…

Our First Family Camping Trip

Our family took our first camping trip with our four boys this past August, we had a great time.  I thought I would share some things I found helpful, my camping checklist and the two things I wish I would have taken.

Growing up we went camping often, and I have so many great memories of our camping adventures.  I am not what you would call the outdoors type but camping and being outside in…

That daily twinge of parental guilt

I've finished tucking my son into bed, told him that I've loved him and am about to turn off the light when he tells me that I am the best mom ever. It's a sweet statement that gives him extra kisses and cuddles and reassurances from me that I just try to be the best mom for him that I can be, and I am glad that I did a good job that day.…
