Sunny Daze

I forgot how much I love the sun. I've not been on holiday abroad for 5years and I have spent about 4 of those summers being pregnant. After managing through 30 degrees of heat whilst 38weeks pregnant (twice), 6months pregnant and 3months pregnant I was not a big fan of any heat whatsoever, in fact winter became my favourite time of year.

But this year it is different

1) I am NOT pregnant

2) I can fit into lovely summer dresses… Continue

Be My Bra- Breast Cancer Petition

Friends, We have the opportunity to help get a bill passed which will allow women to receive the proper treatment and recovery time necessary after a mastectomy. Here

There’s a bill called the Breast Cancer Patient Protection Act which will require insurance companies to cover a minimum 48-hour hospital stay for patients undergoing a mastectomy. It’s about eliminating the ‘drive-through’ Mastectomy where women are forced to go home just a… Continue

What's all the Hugging About?

Sociologists are interested in how touchy-feely our teens have become these days? Any high schooler knows that if she'd rather wave than hug to say 'hello', she may be perceived as a social misfit! How did that come to be? And is it a good thing? My teenagers and their friends are not exception. I recently went to the Prom gathering spot to take pictures of my daughter, her date and their dinner group. There was so much hugging and chest… Continue

Teez-Her Skinny Tank Review and Giveaway! (2 Winners)

I've been talking a lot about working out, getting in shape, and even started a running blog. Through all this hard work I AM seeing results. I've lost pretty much all my baby weight, but now my issue is toning up. It came in a hot pink gift bag with… Continue

&*@# Ikea . . .

I've always had a love/hate relationship with Ikea, the build-it-yourself furniture superstore. One the one hand, even before the recession I appreciated a bargain, and I like to think that even if I had $5,000 to spend on an end table, I wouldn't be so wasteful. Walking through Ikea's beautiful but maze-like showroom and seeing the ridiculously low prices gives me the same high I got the first time I went to Loehmann's (back in the day when it was a real outlet with real discounts; heck, I… Continue

Easy Behavior Modification (yeah, right!)

FRIDAY, MAY 29, 2009

Easy Behavioral Modification (yeah, right!)

Usually, I delete those unsolicited emails offering tips on anti-aging superfoods (acai berries! no, tofu!, actually, now it's quinoa!), positive thinking ("send this to 5 supportive friends, and something amazing will happen in the next 9 minutes!"), and income ("Yes, you can turn your journalling into a 6 figure book contract!"). But one popped up the other day which I couldn't resist, promising 'Brand New Ways… Continue

My First True Love: A Letter to my Teenage Son

Dedicated to my oldest son, Brandon

We met face-to-face for the first time what seems like yesterday, but years have passed, and I have known you for a lifetime. You have led me on a remarkable journey through this forest of existence, and have taught me to cherish every detail. You have guided my feet toward a less traveled pathway, and on it, you have opened my eyes to a world full of treasures all others have taken for granted, cast aside or completely ignored.

I knew… Continue

Silence

He lies motionless in an unfamiliar place

He tries to view his world

Only to be met with nothingness

Faded mutterings of peculiar articulations

Surround his being

Taunting his curiosity

Focus . . .

His recognition fails, once more

He knows someone is there

Somewhere in the darkness

Who?

The shuffling of footsteps

On a rigid…

3D Ultrasound and Our First Glimpse of Baby Daniel

Perhaps all pregnant women will agree with me when I say that one of the most awaited pregnancy moments is when you get to listen to your baby’s heartbeat for the first time; or better yet, when you get your first glimpse of him while he is still in your tummy.

Our experience was no different. We rushed to St. Luke’s Medical Center in Quezon City as soon as our obstetrician advised us that we could have pictures of our baby taken through 3D ultrasound. Unfortunately, Daniel was not… Continue

"It Sucks When"

“It sucks when” this was a trending topic on twitter. Some of the comments were funny and some were not so funny. There was one comment caught my eye and made me think it does suck when there is not enough money to go around for all the things need in your daily life. When you’re not 100% sure where your next dollar will come from or if you not sure if you can provide food for your family. As it stands now I have not have to think about this, but am I just 3 paychecks away from this…maybe I… Continue

The Nerve! Fighting back against rude people everywhere!

The rudeness of people never ceases to amaze me. There you are . . . just going about your day-to-day life, when someone does something or says something just downright rude. The nerve! When this happens to me, I'm usually so stunned by their audacity that I cannot think of a reply until moments, even days later when I realize, after careful consideration of how this person affected my life, invaded my personal space, and (sometimes) even triggered a tear or two.

I was brought up to… Continue

The ABCs of Me

A - Age: 37 going on dead

B - Bed size: not big enough, but apparently suited for a queen. I'm assuming that queen didn't have a cover-hogging, freight train-sounding husband, dogs who only sleep on Mom's side of the bed, or two small kids running into her room in the middle of the night because

is out to get them!

C - Chore you hate: How about I just list all the ones I don't hate? That would be a whole lot… Continue
