A little praise for a little lady
More and more, the following conversation seems to take place, usually at pre-school or on a play date.
Random parent or teacher, "You know Richard, you really should have a girl, you would love one".
Me, "If they sold them at stores, I'd think really hard about it."
And so another conversation that has potential to go into detail about a third child and even more potential for us to end up with another dog or cat (see last blog) comes…

Memorial Day
Today I took my daughters to a Memorial Day event. We attended because I wanted to show support to our service men and women, past and present. I was thrilled to see the huge number of people who showed up in a small town to give honor to our military. It was a beautiful event, with all branches of the military present, blue star & gold star moms, and World War II veterans. Speeches were presented, songs sung, and honor given to those who served and also to those who have members of…

Summer Update on Spitting and the Boy
I mentioned that baseball season is over, and the opportunity for professional spitting has also ended for my son.
I was wrong. I forgot completely about the swimming pool.
Boys spit, and when there is an ample supply of water, they spit more. My son spits water in the pool like a fountain. Just like in baseball, there are different kinds of spits. If there are girls in the pool, there is the "gotcha" spit -- coming up from under the water, mouth full of chlorinated…

Spitting and the Boy
Baseball season is almost over, and with it my son’s only opportunity for professional spitting. He’s gotten so good at it that he can do it automatically, like a reflex. Brush the dirt with his shoe, spit, hit his glove, look at the bases, spit, get ready for the ball. When he’s up to bat, he takes a practice swing,… Continue

All Alone (Part 1)
It's storming outside tonight. Again.
I'm craving sunshine. Yes. This rain-loving, born-in-San-Diegan wants warmth from the sun and natural, bright light.
But, it is still May. One more day anyhow. And another shower can't be bad for the rainforest that surrounds us here. So, I'll just write about last night. When it wasn't raining. When it was surprisingly cold out and the sun was setting beyond the forest's edge.
