Fight Those Mosquitoes... Naturally!

Summer is around the corner. Sunshine, lake days, campfires, starry nights... all wonderful elements of this time of year. But then there's the mosquito... the dreaded little bugger that tries to rob us of our enjoyment of this short season.

Early last summer I became prey to these awful little insects and decided to fight back (and ended up having some success)! This year,…

OMG, what do you mean gluten free????

It’s July 2010 and I’m just about to get on a plane to Sydney when I realize that once again, there is a sore on my leg which is infected. This is the fourth lot of infected eczema I’ve had since April. Two days later, having soldiered on through two days of meetings and trainings and bled all over hotel sheets, I’m flying back to NZ, my entire lower body covered with boil like pustules. I can’t walk without pain, my winter boots have pressed on two particularly nasty sores around my ankles…

Who am I and why did I start writing a blog?

I am Lisa Rose, wife, mother to 4 and step-mother to 2, Sales Operations Manager for an IT company and I've recently been told I should be gluten free. I'm a somewhat thwarted author with two unpublished romance novels to my name. I got annoyed that it was so hard to find specific information about gluten free life in NZ, and decided that if I was going to complain about it, I should do something to change it! So in my copious spare time (guffaw!) I'm decided to put my words of wisdom such as… Continue

Being rewarded for hard work feels good!

After working very hard on the PR of my educational app: ' Tilly's pettingfarm", it feels good to see that my efforts are getting rewarded with results.

Today when checking the results in the AppStore, I was very happy to see that the Dutch version (Juf Jannies…

On Pets. Ouch.

Last Mother’s Day I received a pet from my lovely husband. Last year, I was more sleepless than I am these days. That beautiful thing called preschool hadn’t started for us yet. 5:00a.m. wakings were still regular occurrences. Another pet to care for in addition to the two cats was hard for my weary, toddler-focused mind to process. Last Mother’s Day, as my lovely husband was pulling Julian’s cage from…

Confessions of an Older Mom

Okay, so last week my sixth child was  successfully potty trained, right before he turned 3. The big deal? This was the 3rd attempt at it, my attempt; you see it's not that Adam failed the previous times, I his mother who trained 5 before him and had 3 trained by 2, was too tired to stick with the process. He's not the first child to be a delayed potty trainer, his 2 older sisters( my younger girls) were completely toilet…

Calgon; PLEASE Take Me Away( and don't bring me back)!!!

I am a Mom of all trades, though aren't we all? I believe those who we call family expect us to know it all and do it all, and heaven forbid if we don't, we will hear it. As a mom of so many, I am pulled into so many directions,I had no choice to self nick name myself; Scarecrow, I am 1 minute wiping the 2 and a half year old and a split second later I'm making a sandwich for the 5 yo or chasing a dog out of the bathroom, or tracking…

Diary of a Not So Perfect Mom

Any mom that states she is the perfect mom is fooling only herself. For you see, we never are perfect, in others eyes , and , sometimes by our own standards. I like to think I am, but I do so in hopes my children will follow my guidelines for parenting. That's not working. When you are up all night making a last minute costume for school, you think; "wow, I did it, I wanna see some other mom do this!", and it is done, some other mom,… Continue

The Path to Perfect Panties

My favorite book of all time is The Sweet Potato Queens’ Book of Love by Jill Conner Browne. In it describes the theory of never wearing panties to a party.  I think that is awesome advice. Going commando is immensely liberating. There is something slightly naughty about it that gives the day an edge of excitement. Also there are no pesky panty lines to worry about and no shelf for the flob to sit on. If there is no shelf then there is no flob, right? RIGHT? Sort of like my idea that I…
