Father's Day Dilemma

TJ's school did a wonderful celebration for all the Mom's for Mother's Day.  It was a "Mother's Only" event and each Mom was treated to a breakfast of donuts, muffins and OJ served by their child in their classrooms.  Each child recited a poem that they wrote to their mother in front of the class.  TJ's poem was so sweet.  It feels good to be recognized by your child for all the things you do for them.  It especially feels good when that recognition is done in public.  Leaving TJ's school…

Put It Away

Good weather. Great innit?

Um. Mostly.

You know what's not great?

  1. Bearing witness to those chomping away at a non existent rung of economic contribution, who, having wobbled their way into two sizes too small garmentry, must then expose vast expanses of pasty, mottled, stretch marked, dimpled hide to my revolted eye.
  2. Unwittingly gazing upon the freakishly long, gnarled toenails of an elderly chap in sandals while queueing to pay for batteries in…

Things I've Learned This Week

** Nothing says true love like having to ask your spouse how long you've been married.

** If a black cat runs in front of you, just pretend like it didn't.

** Kids ask why even when they don't give a rat's ass about the answer.

** You know times are tough when Dee Snider is doing…

"Thank You God For This Day I Had With My Mom"

http://http://thesexysinglemommy.blogspot.com/

Every night when my son, TJ says his prayers, he always thanks God "for this day that I had with my mom."  Sweet, huh?  I think so too, but almost a year ago, he wasn't thanking God "for the day that he had with his mom" because his mom was always at work.  As I think back, he was probably silently thanking God for being able to "see" his mom.

You see, I…

Summer Plans

It is now late May, almost Memorial Day, and I realize that I have made no plans for a summer holiday. Ever since my children were very young, I have been planning our summer vacations, spending countless hours each spring researching hotel deals, scanning city maps and reading Fodor’s reviews. I love doing it, it has become a part of who I am, a way for me to nurture both my family and myself.  But in these last few weeks of this spring, before summer announces itself with picnics…

How GOOD is being a kid?

There is no need for Niagara Falls. No cause to seek out the Great Barrier Reef. No requirement for the Grand Canyon. The Pyramids are so-so. The Leaning Tower of Pisa's okay. The Great Wall of China is perfectly satisfactory. But they're not exciting.

You know the world must be a fabulous place when all you need to be fascinated, mesmerised, captivated for hours, is a tube of soapy water. And a stick with a hole in it.…

Someone Get This Woman a New Camera!

Someone Get This Woman a New Camera!

Waaaaay back in the day when I was pregnant with Matt, my sister in law, Nicole (I know, weird, right?) gifted me with a Polaroid digital camera at my baby shower (a500 if you're technical and that means anything to you).  I thought it was the coolest freakin' thing in the world!  I'd never had a digital camera before.  Yes, in 2006 I was still going to get film developed and praying…

Do Women Need to Think Like Men to Succeed in Business?

In a recent conversation with a friend who is CEO of a construction company, I explained how doing business with the government could potentially take her business to the next level.
