Uh-Oh! Moments

We start teaching those words to babies at a very small age. As most parents begin to do, when E was just a brand new baby, we started saying, "Uh-Oh!" about all sorts of things.

When we dropped something, when we spilled something, forgot about something, etc.

Now she knows exactly when to say it. Oh and when she does, I go running. I want to run the opposite direction out of fear of what I will find, but I know it's usually something that needs immediate… Continue

Sex Ed & Summer

It's finally summer. I don't know about the rest of you, but up here in El Norte, summer's here in calendar form only. We are still chugging through cold, windy, rainy days, much akin to a bleak March without the dirty, crusted snow, but knolls of super green grass dotting the yards instead. It's incongruent enough to bring tears to your eyes. Global warming? Sign me up, please. Blowing a warm breeze through Minnesota 365 days a year is worth a few polar bear hides any day.

We buy a… Continue

Familiarity Breeds Contempt

I recently blogged about Fox News' disrespectful treatment of Michelle Obama and while my blog was an initial gut reaction thing, I started thinking about the real reasons people think it's acceptable to disrespect public figures. I think the change started happening right around the time that the… Continue

I Don't Know Whether to Laugh of Cry

I Don't Know Whether to Laugh or Cry

Caught in the Middle of What Is and What Can Be

Uncertain and unable to move one step more, you are caught in the middle of what is and what can be. At the end of yourself with nothing but the promise of faith and hope in your heart, you are in a good place. You may not know whether to laugh or cry, but it doesn't matter because it is in His hands now.

The Calm Before the Storm

Yesterday, we took the kids to see the Mets and for once, my head was clear and I wasn't sidetracked by my to-do list or my BlackBerry. Since my BB died as soon as the game started, I could actually focus on having a great time with my kids and my husband as we consumed really fattening food and marveled at the amazing seats we had scored. We were literally three rows away from the field which means we could scream out at the players and they would actually hear us. In fact, one kid next two me… Continue

Great Start Sunday!

It's a beautiful Sunday here in Northern California and we're preparing to go to church. I have three ladies who want to visit my church for the first time and I get to be their ride. In Sunday School I'll be interpreting for the deaf and then in the main church hour as well. Tonight I get to watch as two of my deaf friends receive their certificate of completion in our discipleship program. I have had the honor of teaching them for 6 weeks and have… Continue

Shopping Saturday

Because I'm employed full-time and both my kids are in camp this Summer, the only days I have to shop for my weekly menu and necessities is Saturday and Sunday. Ideally I would like to save Sunday for relaxing and/or spending quality time with my kids, so I've decided that I'm designating Saturday as "Shopping Saturday".

You can go to my blog to see what I was able to get this week here.

The Emergence of a Charismatic Leader

Through the years there have been charismatic leaders who have stood out for the good (Jesus, Ghandi, JFK, Martin Luther King, Mother Theresa) and the bad (Hitler, Fidel Castro, Charles Manson). There have been others who I believe have touched on this pedestal, but never quite made it to the top (Bill Clinton, Ronald Reagan). To be in the presence of one with such charisma, such a magnetic pull is, and would be breathtaking, irresistible.

Our country is fortunate enough to witness… Continue

Keys? What keys?

Once upon a time this blogger wrote about the “Key Gremlins.”

Well, guess what, folks. There are no key gremlins in our house. There is, however, a key gremlin.

My lunch breaks consist of me returning home for a snuggle with the toddler and a quick lunch. The moment I walk in the door Mini-Hubby is either handed to me by Big Hubby or wraps his cute little arms around my legs.

I once dropped my keys on a table by the door. But then the table annoyed Hubby — well,… Continue
