Power Mom on eFoods Global Day 4! My son makes dinner!

The Feeding and Funding Mission Begins! My 11 year old makes dinner! Day 4

"We just don't do it for them. We teach them the process. What we do, in essence, is teach people to fish."

For Ellie

One of my favorite moments in motherhood is when the beauty of your children strike you. Today I was watching my baby play, and for a moment I lost my breath.

I just sat frozen, drinking her in. The curve of her cheek, the shape of her eyes. Her tiny hand clutching a toy, fingers unblemished by time. Tiny toes, polished orange. Feet, turned in just a little, identical to her Daddy's.

I stare at her feet, remember how they would push on my tummy, the way she would roll slowly… Continue

Exceedingly Positive

Amy spent a day at her new school this week. I haven't seen her so happy about a school day, it was truly wonderful to see the beaming smile on her face when I kissed her goodbye in the foyer. Naturally, I thought about her all day but unusually for me, I didn't worry about her for one second.

New theme ideas designed by me of course…

I have a horrendous migraine today. You know the type… if you move you vomit, the house has to be pitch black, god for bid the boys make a noise. I thought about getting my head amputated, and getting it replaced with a tin-head, like the tin-man did in the Wizard of Oz. While, not very practical, I thought I better make use of my down time in the bed. I worked on a logo & a new layout. Actually I am quite proud of myself… I love being so creative… I just wished I had more time for…

The Wisdom of Letting Kids Fail

I think that many Americans have known for a long time that indulgent, Helicopter-style parenting leads to entitled children. Of course, when it’s spelled out that way, the truth seems implicit and obvious, but it’s a truth that’s been lost on a generation of middle class parents who only wanted their children to avoid all of the discomforts that they experienced, and to have all of the advantages that they never had. While that sentiment is certainly one that anyone can empathize with, it…

Power Mom Day 5! Fishing Feet on the table and eFoods Global for lunch?

As a Power Mom intent on feeding and funding my family, I always make home cooked meals! Okay maybe not ALWAYS but that is my intent (on my best days and when I am in a good mood.) Anyway, I had just cleaned the house when my men returned from a summer morning fishing trip! I had lunch all prepared and was ready to set the table on a fresh table cloth when my husband walked into the kitchen and put not only his fishing pole and gear but his just returned from the gross lake shows on top of my… Continue

Post Lice Disorder or PLD as I call it

It’s now 18 months after the fact and I believe this is my first written admission. I drafted a private blog at one point but the thought of publishing it was too much. I am revisiting this subject as one of my very close friends called yesterday to tell me her and her 2 daughters got lice. Since then, I’ve been itching my head nonstop. I’m am glad to say she lives about 2500 miles away so there is not a chance they gave it to us. If this sounds unsympathetic, it’s only because I still have…

So close ... to being famous on Amazon

For just a few minutes there, I was almost famous. I was so close.

See, I called up my book, Death on Deadline, on its Amazon page to see if I had any more reviews posted (I have a few pending) and my jaw dropped in amazement.

There, right by MY book, my hard-scrabble indie little baby, was an Amazon seal of approval. YES! It was right there! It was GOLD! And it said "Best of 2011 So Far." Really? Seriously?

I did my traditional seated happy…

Things To Be Happy About Today

While it hopefully came across as humorous, my last couple of blogs were too negative as I'm wasting too much (of my precious few) brain cells worrying about the crazy neighbor. So today, lets be positive and be thankful for a few things.

1) As its Wednesday, its swim meet night in our town and probably countless thousands of other towns.  Today and for the next several Wednesdays, I'm beyond thrilled my kids are NOT doing swim team.  I know you get free lessons and they get…

How to Get Your Kids to the Dentist Without Tears, Tantrums or Throwing

Growing up, you might remember a time in your life when the only thing scarier than the boogeyman was your dentist. Over the years, you grew to appreciate your dentist and his or her service to your dental health, however, it did take you some time to grow into that mentality. Give your kids a…
