In need of a lactation boost?

As a breastfeeding mom, I understand the frustration when it comes to your milk supply. I mean c'mon! Breastmilk is liquid gold in our eyes. Like many moms, I would spend so much time online looking up how to increase my milk production. We all remember the first time our milk comes in. We are full, engorged, and our bed seems to be like a 'milk puddle'. I came across many products online but one that stuck out to me that I was able to order was Mrs. Patel's. Mrs. Patel's is a growing company… Continue

Coffee! Can you hear me?

Yes! That's right. I bought a Caramel Iced Macchiato from Starbucks. This is my first coffee in a long time. Through my pregnancy it was tough getting to work without coffee and I am guilty of drinking it while pregnant. My iron was low which was another reason why I was always so exhausted at work. Now that I am breastfeeding and on my leave of absence, I rarely drink it. When I was so addicted to coffee at one point, I would drink about 2-3 cups per day. I'm not talking Starbucks coffee. I… Continue

All I really need to know (about Autism) I learned (while my son was) in Kindergarten

When my son John Matthew entered kindergarten, I saw before me our future of living in an autism world.  Within one short year, I learned that our life would be full of hope and despair, answers and unanswered questions, triumphs and challenges, acceptance and intolerance, laughter and…

To the Mom Using Food Stamps : I See You

mom-foodstamps-cereal

To the mom using foodstamps, I see you.

I see the fear in your eyes when someone gets in line behind you.  You wonder if they’re judging your food choices, not knowing that the cupcakes you’re buying are for your son’s birthday.  Last year your family had to buy his cake because you couldn’t afford it, you never want that hollow feeling in the pit of your stomach again.  You felt like such a…

Why I Wasn’t Ready To Be a Mom

We were out in New York City with friends when we decided we were ready.A packed bar downtown, the kind of place you forget. We’d both had way too many nights like this one: too many watered down vodka sodas, nights spent shoving through the crowd, competing for the bartender’s attention.

This wasn’t the scene for us anymore, it was easy to see.

I don’t remember…

Grief Keeps Odd Hours

The kids slept in a bit today, and so did I. My husband awake, already working, and making breakfast.

“I decided to make blueberry muffins this morning!”

He’s the cook in our home. I like to cook, but it doesn’t seem to come naturally, or even with lots of practice, for me. But we’re lucky because he’s a flawless cook. I used to crave eating out, but his meals are so…

Who Cares if I'm a Tiger Mom, I Have a Rhino Kid

My Big Bird (i.e., the oldest of my three kids, a seven year old) recently had a first grade animal project. He selected a rhinoceros. He had to make a poster with a series of facts and pictures from research he did from books and the internet. Though I find most…

A 'Wish' Is a Wish ...

Ever since I was a little girl, I wanted to help people escape from their problems, their fears, and the doldrums of life, if only for a short while into the world I created.  I used my writing, through my adult life, as a way to escape from the disappointments, the tragedies, and heartaches.

Finally, after all of these years, one of my books has been chosen to compete for a Kindle Publishing Contract.  I win, if YOU the public, read my sample chapters and nominate me.  Would you…

When Mommy needs a time out

Sometimes my son pushes me over the edge. It's part of his growing up - he pushes his boundaries and learns the consequences of disrespect. My patience level - like all parents - varies. There are days when I can shake it off, and then there are days when I yell.…
