I'm an avid dooce reader, even though I just found her recently- like a month ago. Lately, she seems to be writing less than usual and when you get hooked on a blog, you kind of forget it's a real person writing about their daily life. They become like an online book and when you can't read what happens next, you can get frustrated. So, last night I decided to use the wayback internet machine to read as far back as the archives would let me to really get my fill of the dooce life from the… Continue

I may be stirring up the hornet's nest with my opinion
that musicians should learn to read and speak the language of music. It's true that a lot of musicians have become very successful without these basic skills, but I really don't see why they never made the effort to learn.

Let me start by saying ahhhhhh today has not been my day. So I take Katie to swimming lessons today which was so much fun and I had Collin with us as well so all 3 of us were in our swimming soups (as Katie says) and I realize I left our change of clothes bag and Collin's lunch bag on the floor of the garage. Why? you ask because I was running late and then my car wouldn't start (my brand new car) so as I'm trying to figure out what was wrong I gave it one more try and it turned on. I call the… Continue

Every year after embarking on a long summer journey I utter the very same words: "I will not get into the car with children and drive any farther than Target ever again." Well, I mostly sigh it with my fingers pressed into my eye sockets.
Last year wasn't too bad, we did Madeline Island on Lake Superior and that wasn't terribly far. Madeline has a rockin' beach which feels exactly like the Bahamas but instead of white sand and warm water has brown sand and toe freezing water, but it… Continue

I write and speak on behalf of mental health awareness. I am an advocate and an activist.
I've lived with depression my entire life, managed well with medication for the last several years. I also have two children with bipolar disorder. In our extended family this illness affects nearly a dozen others. I know the challenges. I also know the possibilites and blessings. I work hard to share a vision of acceptance, treatment, recovery, wellness and joy. All are possible!

Grove Christian Outreach Center
I am not sure what the official definition of "grove" is. But if you drive on 60 East from Williamsburg you will first pass what was the Anheiser Bush Brewery (they just sold it) and Bush Gardens and then you reach James River Elementary and then across from the school is a trailer park and in the trailer park is a church and outreach center. These are my neighbors; my kids go to school with the kids in this community; 18% of the children in this community… Continue

Umm humm... so one of the girls from a yahoo group contacted me last spring about her "send out cards" business. It looks like a GREAT business but we were about to move home and my little Arbonne business took a hit with all the moving around and "not right now." Right. Well - I just got home from a GREAT meeting about Grove Christian Outreach Center - a neighborhood outreach that directly affects the kids that go to school with my kids... so I wrote a little blog about it, decided all my… Continue

My dear hubby Peter has a thing for chocolate cake. He has a love for all things chocolate, genetically predisposed to it, I suppose, as his mother is the same way. We’ve been married for 10 years, together for a little over 11. And the one consistent in our life has been his overall disdain for any chocolate cake that attempts to be a Bill Knapps cake. I don’t recall if I’ve ever set foot in a Bill Knapps restaurant before, they’ve gone out of business and shut their doors forever….stealing… Continue

So this week I got to keep my friends daughter who is 9 and her cousin who is also 9 on top of my 2 babies, I loved it!! I had so much fun not to mention that Katie had a blast with the girls. It makes me want Katie to grow up so fast, but I really don't want to miss this age especially knowing that Shawn is missing this age.
We are really bad for you food, stayed up late and watched Hannah Montana. I really got into her show.....I guess that's part of being a mom, getting into the… Continue

Hi, thought I would start off telling you a little about me.
I am happily married with 4 grown boys and a beautiful grand daughter.
I work outside the home in a Emergency room, collections and insurance verification.
I also work inside the home with two different companies.
I am a candleholic, I love all candles, all shapes and sizes. I should have been an aromatherapist. I believe that every scent has a purpose and every nose has a lifetime memory.

I've had lots of web woes due to faulty programming by my initial design house, but Monkey C Media
has changed all that. Jeniffer Thompson and her amazing team exude enthusiasm, professionalism, creativity and efficiency. I would recommend them to anybody!

I posted today on my personal blog about getting rid of the television for a healthier marriage. I've been thinking about the post for a while - just was spurred on by a trip to Costco and watching men drool over all the large screen TVs as you walk in.
Ah well... feel free to pop over and read more. You'll find it here: Quiet-Mom.com

It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of childhood, it was the age of parenthood, it was the epoch of excitement, it was the epoch of dullness, it was the season of laughter, it was the season of bickering.
It was summer, and it was family vacation time.
It is not often that a 30-12-year-old woman has the opportunity to vacation separately with her family of origin (mom, dad, and 30-10-year-old sister) and her family of record (husband and… Continue

I am a big celebrity junkie. I like reading all the entertainment magazines, I watch E!, and a bunch of the other celebrity news shows. I like making fun of them, it’s so easy. But the other day I was reading a very popular entertainment magazine, and the whole magazine was about “celebrity diets”. And the “before” and “after” pictures. Okay, there were pictures of women who were pregnant, that was their before picture (because you know they couldn’t find another picture with them having an… Continue

for dinner and a birthday Party. Its hard to believe that I changed this kids diaper and hes turning 20 years old today. Where did time go? If someone told that life went this fast, I would have taken the time to slow down and enjoy life. I would have went back to school and stuck with it.
I am now trying to teach my granddaughter this at an early age. Maybe, she will learn that life wont be that tough and you will get through good times and bad. Just take one day at a time.
