Why is it that men aren’t nearly effected by the way they look, the way women are?
I’m having a really rough few days and I took a good look in the mirror at myself today. My skin is a mess from allergies. My hair is in dire need of a cut (it’s been almost 3 months and the layers can’t even be called layers anymore). I can’t seem to find my favorite bra (Le Mystere, Tisha. Awesome bra if you are over a C cup) and so now my boobs aren’t looking exactly the way I like them. And now I’m… Continue

I'm doing a few 'keep in touch days' at work this week to try and get me ready for when I go back for good in September. For those who don't know what these are, they are 10days which you can go back to work for (fully paid) and still stay on your maternity leave. I found them very useful last year as i managed to get all my hours and days sorted out before I was due back, so i just came in on my first day back and knew exactly what I was doing.
Anyhoo, I worked Wednesday night… Continue

Today, every life experience possible seems to be moving online; and the traditional white elephant gift exchange is no exception. The online mimic of this classic party game is changing how family and friends connect during their various life events. No longer are groups constrained by distance from hosting a Yankee Swap or Dirty Santa gift exchange, because online replacements have no boundaries. In fact,… Continue

The other day a friend of mine was explaining all the foods that she had prepared for their BBQ. They included things I had never heard of and can’t even remember so I could type it here. It all sounded delicious, or maybe it was the way she described them that sounded so good. So she had this great idea of getting our families together and having a big spread. She would prepare Southern cuisine and I would supply the Northern Yankee food. I smiled as I gritted my teeth and thought, “What the… Continue

Today my husband and I will celebrate our 4th wedding anniversary. Most people make huge deals out of milestones like 10, 25, or 50 but anyone who's married will tell you that every year is a milestone and should be celebrated. Every day is a celebration truly because marriage is hard work and most don't make it. I don't know if we will be one of the exceptions but I do know we've made it this far and it should be celebrated.
My husband's first marriage did not last three years and… Continue

I learned about Jennifer and Stellan a few days ago, and that sweet little boy has been on my mind since then. Jennifer’s beautiful blog, My Charming Kids, is actually one of the first mom blogs I ever came across seven months ago when I started my blog, but I hadn’t checked in until a tweet by another mom caught my attention. Stellan, one of four, is her nine-month-old adorable little boy who has heart failure, and Jennifer blogs about their difficult and heart-breaking journey every day. More… Continue

I am a mom of 3:) and i love being a mom. I am a stay at home mom and that is work too! but it's fun. I love where i live, it's a small town where you can walk down main street and recognize the faces. We moved here because we wanted to have our kids grow up in a place that wasn't busy. My husband is great. We have been married 5 and a half years already! I remember when we first got married i couldn't imagine where we would be after 5 years of marriage and here we are 3 kids later and our life… Continue

I am mom. It's been almost 8 months since my son was born and I'm still getting used to the fact that I am a mom. I'm responsible for this person's health and well-being for as long as I'm alive. Huge job. This morning he rolled right off the bed. Rolled right over the pillow that a month ago would keep him blocked off from the edge. It's happened before and that time he landed on top of a pillow, this morning it was the floor. I scooped him up and held him close as he cried and I cried.… Continue

I was sad when my son woke up one morning and told me he didn’t want to wear diapers anymore. Great, you’d think……who likes changing those things anyway? But it’s a huge milestone, especially when it’s your youngest or only child.
Gone, are the diaper bags. No excuse now to be carrying that large Kate Spade bag I had back then. Gone, is some of the dependency. (That last part is especially tough when you’re a smothering, needy mother like myself.) And forever gone was the crinkling… Continue

At this point in my parenting career, I'm pretty good at taking others' opinions in stride. Think cloth diapers and home schooling are the way to go? Fine. Neither are for me, but who cares?
But every so often, I kick myself for not addressing a remark more clearly (or at all). So, behind the shield of the Internet, consider exhibit A...

It has been a crazy few months here at Dillon. We started out with Vietnam Heritage Weekend and continued the craziness with India Camp, China Camp and Korea Camp. We had more than 200 kids at China Heritage Camp this year and almost as many at Korea Heritage Camp. Both China and Korea camps were preceded by Discovery Days for teenage adoptees. Teens and staff spent a couple of night at Bridlecreek (a lodge and campsite north of Tulsa) doing everything from riding horses to delving into the… Continue

This is the number one issue that I hear from moms in particular. You might think that you don't have time to workout and eat property, but you CAN find the time. Frankly, you MUST find the time for yourself! If you are not healthy and fit, your family can't count on you. Your work productivity will decrease, and you won't feel good about… Continue

So just when I think I don't have to talk about poop anymore.
I am sorry. I guess it's just that season of life; poop has anchored itself into every corner of our life, we can't wash it out, get rid of the smell, make it go away...
My kids of course learned to poop in the toilet, think the word poop is funny when made into a constipated word...wait, I mean compound word, like poophead, poopyhead, and poo-poohead...
But now they use poop as a way… Continue
