Which Comes First, Baby or Career?

I am an anomaly: I married right out of high school and started having children at a young age. While most of my classmates are only now starting their families ten year later, my third baby is starting kindergarten in the fall and baby four is almost ready for preschool. I am not, however, one of those barefoot and pregnant women. I am part of a new, yet growing, segment of the population that is having children first and then growing a career after their family is…

Beware the tipping buggy

Overloaded

buggy, child out and running wild, chasing after child to prevent a

accident/incident/angry shoppers... Then the whole thing crashes

backwards under the weight of milk and bananas, crushing your shopping

and any suggestion of parenting competency along with it. Every time it

happens, you curse yourself because it's so bloody predictable (laws of

physics and all).

Small Girl…

Normal Shmormal

I often find myself wondering if my parenting is that of a regular mom. A mom untouched by the death of her own mother..but I quickly realize, when you have lost a parent

nothing you ever do will be untouched by that loss. For as long as I

can remember I have…

The Absence of Friendship

I have a lot in my life and I am very blessed. I have a man who adores me, I have two beautiful daughters, I have my health and I am truly happy. But there is one thing in my life that is missing, not exactly missing, just not something I have close by. Girlfriends.… Continue

Whats in a Name?

When we decided on Jz’s name, the conversation went like this:

Michael: So the baby is going to be born in about an hour, we should talk about a name.

Me: How about Jz?

Michael: Okay.

Seriously, that is exactly how it went. In North America, we are pretty lucky when it comes to naming options: we can chose almost anything we want. So…

Paying Parent Support

With rising life expectancy, there is a good chance your children will get to know their grandparents. There is a good chance your parents will live well past their sixties and that you will eventually live even longer than them. However, with economic uncertainty, poor saving rates, and retirements that are starting to last longer than working careers, more and more people are running out of money in their golden years. Medication and medical costs associated with…

14 Ways to Promote You Craft Blog {but many would work for other blogs too!}

(... and yes, MBC is on the list!!)

I've been doing a fair amount of promotion for Pocket Week,

and learning a lot in the process. There are a TON of places we craft

bloggers can promote ourselves, and I thought I'd share some I've

found. I'm no expert - This list is not a "best of" and it is not

all-inclusive. I haven't tried all of them {yet}... mostly because I'm

stingy about getting at least a couple…

Dinosaur pillows

Talk about imagination fueled by Daddy! Cutie Pie was hanging out with Sweet Pea and Daddy one night while I tended to the dishes. I could hear Cutie Pie running back and forth from the rumpus room to the living room screaming all excitedly while bringing pillows into the living room. Daddy was saying things like "Let's get in the truck and go!" Cutie Pie then interrupted with "Wait, we forgot Sweet Pea!", or "Wait, we forgot the teeth!" (which would be followed by the little thumping feet and… Continue

Build a Better Blog... Or Not

There has been a lot of talk around the blogosphere as of late about building a better blog. The information has been useful, but in some ways, I think it's causing a bit of a blogging identity crisis for me.

Does my blog really need to be bigger? Better? Do I need a larger following?

In large part, I write to become a better writer. This hashing…

Excuse me... are you happy just browsing?

Having suffered from extreme sore-throatedness for an entire week, I am relieved I am on the mend with antibiotics doing their job and canesten at the ready. It has been pretty bad, but good news is that I lost 3 kilos due to the fact I could not eat! Also have not really slept for a week, apart from the night my pal Belinda gave me a…

Toxins In Food For ME/CFS Sufferers

Toxins in Food- Be Careful what you eat

I think most of us CFS / ME sufferers are familiar with toxins upsetting our delicate immune systems so I have put together the following blog about toxins in some of the every day food we consume. This has been a difficult week for me with very low energy on most days resulting in resting in bed for far longer than I would like. I have kept it short but hopefully informative and when time and energy permit I shall follow up with a blog on… Continue
