Potty Training too hard?

I have been potty training my daughter for quite some time and now it seems to have gotten a lot harder. I tried that boot camp potty training thing, I have tried listening to other people like having her wear nothing or take her every 15 minutes to the potty. I have heard that potty training gets hard when something changes in their life, death, separation, serious things basically. She starts preschool soon after she turns three in December and really I am a bit worried she will not be…

How Our Friends Have Helped

Thanks to the generous donations from members of our community, Caring for Kids has been able to help a mother who is a survivor of domestic violence. She has left her soon to be ex-husband and is going to court for custody of her two children. In order to escape the violence and stress of an abusive relationship, she moved and required basic needs items for her new home. Caring for Kids was able to provide her with towels, sheets, hygiene products, kitchen items, and area rugs to furnish…

The (Ever Shifting) Goal of Parenthood

My wife gave birth to our daughter on March 30th of this past year, 2012. Like any expectant father, naturally I was nervous about what the future had in store for me. Would the sleepless nights of the first few months be too much for me to bear? Will she be born healthy? How will we cope financially? You’ll notice that all these questions are about things that are relatively out of my control...…

Annual Thanksgiving Food Drive

Last year our Caring for Kids Community fed over 5,000 of Orange County’s families and children. Will you help us to surpass that number this year?

Mama Reflection

Last week was one of those weeks that I think was tagged in our timeline of unforgettable weeks. Sometimes, you have a ‘hard’ week, and then there are the weeks that are more than hard. I am learning <the hard way> that you can’t control anything. As much as I’d like to have things handled, I have to accept that things can easily fall out of their rhythm. As a new mom, I think that you are always waiting for things to get better. I self talk a lot. I say “You just have to get through…

Do You Allow Other People's Priorities to Become More Important Than Your Own?

It's the weekend, and for many people a chance to catch up on things they have neglected.  Maybe you would like to catch up with friends and family.  Maybe you want to enjoy some extra time with the kids.  Possibly you have the dreaded chore filled weekend.  You might even just want to have an extended pajama party lolling around watching movies or taking a nap.  The intentions are good, but how much of what you want to do gets done? What keeps you from making yourself the…

Embracing Your Personal Style

I feel like agents at my office are often times on similar wavelengths.  This last week I had some similar conversations with a few different agents.  What made the experience unusual was that the subjects were brought up to me in the course of the conversation by the other person.  You know that feeling where you say, "that's so funny, I just had that same conversation with so and so."  Yeah, that was me last week.

As some of the newer realtors are becoming more comfortable, me…

Insider Tips to Reach the Masses When You Blog

I am by no means an expert when it comes to having a successful blog.  My version of success when I started was a goal to have 1,000 followers and 20,000 views within a year.  Within two years I wanted to make money off my blog either by means of a book, advertising or having my blog in a newspaper where I was being paid.

Here I am, just about seven months in and I will tell you what I've learned and how far I've gotten.  Why?  Because people have asked me for advice or are just…

Links You May Love

I have spoken with several aspiring writers recently and the consensus is that they feel overwhelmed and lost.  The questions of where to begin and how to write a query letter are frequent.  I have also heard the question regarding how to pitch an idea to a magazine without having any clips.  Breaking into a career as a freelance writer can be daunting.  I am lumping myself in with the pack of people who dream of the day where writing is their sole career and a profitable one at…

They Gassed Me

Last week I learned a valuable lesson about communication.  It was during an emergency oral surgery that experienced this epiphany.  There is nothing like being laid far back in a dental chair filled with laughing gas and feeling not quite yourself.

I had things I had wished I could share with my kids, learned about about how important it is to understanding communication and not just language itself.  And I learned some things about my own self talk.

This Bud's For You

Cleaning up our 7-year-old Havanese’s barf at 7:45 a.m. yesterday made me think it might be time for a “Buddy” entry. His rolling in some kind of foul matter and bolting through the house at about 5:15 p.m. confirmed it.

Buddy has been rank before, but this was epic. Even my kids, no strangers to stench, scattered in revulsion.

“Mommy, Buddy stinks!” my 5-year-old daughter cried.

“Go! Go, give him a bath!” her twin brother yelled.

“Now!” Jane, 2,…

Coconut Cinnamon French Toast with Caramelized Banana Maple Syrup

On Sunday morning, while munching on a "carob coconut puffed rice bar" and sipping my usual decaf Earl Grey, I saw a "Cinnamon Toast Crunch" commercial, which had me start reminiscing about my "breakfasts of the past."

Long gone are the days when I used to devour sugary cereals like Cinnamon Toast Crunch, Cocoa Puffs (my favourite!) and…

Is my Inner Child Gone?

Yesterday at the park, I noticed a child rolling down a hill.  She laid herself flat on the grass, rolled all the way down then got up smiling and ran up to do it again.  My first reaction to this was 'oh gross!' because I kept thinking about the dirt and bugs and possible animal poop on the grass.  Then, suddenly I had a…
