Caring for Your Skin, Naturally

By Marianna, Green Mama’s Pad

When I started on my green journey, one of the first things I changed was all of our personal care products. Everything from shampoo to body wash to lotion. I learned that all of the items we were using were loaded with chemicals that were not doing us any good. Some of the dangerous ingredients you will find on traditional products are formaldehyde, parabens, sodium lauryl sulfate and sadly, so much more. I want to quickly take a look at one of these to… Continue

Public, Private or Home School ?

It goes without saying that everyone wants their children to have the best education...the question many parents face is where will my child receive the best education, public, private or home school?

When I grew up, this choice belonged to only the very wealthy families. At no point was where I would go to school a topic of discussion. Public school wasn't even referred to as "public" school. It was just school. Everyone I knew just went to… Continue

Is a stay at home dad just as good?

I have gotten from some that it is better to be a stay at home mom because it is better for the family, but what if the mother is the primary breadwinner of the family and it is the man who stays at home with the family? Is that just as good as having a stay at home mom on location with the children?

Letting Your Baby Eat Off the Floor and Other Stuff You Thought You'd Never Do

With the first baby, most mothers are very particular. I know I was. This is your first baby and you want everything to be perfect. I spent hours organizing the diaper bag before the baby even came. I spent obscene amounts of time thinking about which type of baby wipes I wanted to use. I bought more bottles of hand sanitizer than I'd care to mention and stationed them around the house in various pre-determined locations. I set up multiple changing stations and outfitted them with pampers,… Continue

Return Your Baby Einstein DVD for Full Refun

The AAP (American Academy of Pediatrics) recommends no television-or any screen time-for children under two years old. Still, Baby Einstein DVD's are sold with claims to make your children smarter. They claim to teach your child the ABC's and how to count to 20. They claim to be good for your kids, fun and educational.

Because sitting your 9 month old in front of the television for thirty minutes while their brain and mind is so overstimulated that they won't and can't respond to… Continue

The Homework Battle Goes on.....or Does It??

iStock_000003891502XSmall It is the time of year when that dreaded word "HOMEWORK" becomes a daily battle with parents - or does it? Depending on the age of your children it can cause a lot of problems, drama and opportunities for your child to engage you in power struggles. Truthfully, a lot of how your child reacts comes directly from how you approach the subject and how "little" you participate. Yep, you… Continue

Fast Food, Not The Best Deal For A Family On The Road

This past weekend, my boyfriend took his son, my own son, and myself up to Springfield, Illinois. Along the way we ate breakfast at McDonalds on the road, and then later on we dined at a Chinese buffet. Until we were done and paid the bill, I realized something – McDonalds was becoming increasingly expensive to eat at, especially for families. (We went to the Chinese buffet, as my boyfriend knew they also had a sushi bar too.)

I'm looking for submissions for my newest blog

I am starting a blog called "Just Over The Fence".

Yesterday I watched an episode of Oprah where she visited with five different women in different countries. I loved it. I think we all love peering into others lives a wee bit, that's why blogs are popular and reality tv rakes in the money.

Each post I would like to be submitted by a different woman. It does not have to be a mother... just a woman. I would love submissions from all over the world.

You can access… Continue

The Shriver Report: A Woman's Nation Changes Everything

Would it shock you to learn that American companies haven't kept up with the changes in today's workforce or with their families? I think not. On October 16th, this little known fact became official as the Center for American Progress and Maria Shriver released “The Shriver Report: A Woman's Nation Changes Everything.” This release reveals that, "For the first time in our nation’s history, one-half of all U.S. workers are women, and mothers are the primary breadwinners or co-breadwinners in… Continue
