Confessions of a Breast Feeder

I have wonderful things to say about breastfeeding. In fact here are my top 5 reasons why I like breast feeding

•It lets you bond with your child

•It is cheaper than formula

•You give your child the antibodies they need

•It is the perfect food for your child

•It helps you lose the baby weight

You see … nothing but great things to say. Of course my sister in law holds the record … between her two children she has been nursing for 5 years… Continue

Rethinking Traditions to Save the Pocketbook

I'm in sticker shock...over Christmas cards.

It isn't that Christmas cards in and of themselves are necessarily expensive. I was pleased to get forty of them on-sale at my local grocery store, when I found myself stuck at the auto mechanic's shop much longer than anticipated and walked to the grocery store for something to do. I had the cards signed and… Continue

Child Support

Recently I have been doing a lot of thinking about child support and the point behind it. It is there to help the custodial parent raise a child as if the father was still living in the home and working. What if, when the couple was together, the father did not work, but stayed home and raised the kids - then when they split, the mom got custody and now the dad has to get a job and pay child support? I believe there are single parents out there that really do not want their kids, they just want… Continue

Why I Am Grateful This Thanksgiving

There's a reason why they call it the Christmas Spectacular. It truly is spectacular to see the Rockettes perform at Radio City, New York City. My biz partner, Terry, and I were invited with our families to meet and mingle with the Rockettes and Santa, of course. The show promises to dazzle (my six year old particularly loved the sparkley leotards and high kicks) and entertain (our boys loved the 3-D movie, feeling as if snowballs were being thrown their way). Did you know that many of the… Continue

Footprints from your Team

I have thought a lot lately about how important the word TEAM is to me. And how much a Team effort really means to me. Whether it is the team of our family where we work together to make each day happen. Or the team we have in our business. Or the team effort of the latest project I have participated in. The strength of your team is what will help you succeed and specifically help you build your business. Building a good team has always been an every day part of our business.

It is… Continue

Mean kids' parents suck!

Alright Moms and Dads out there, I need your support. I am amazed by what some kids are allowed to get away with.

When Julia was bald and not feeling or looking so great, though always beautiful to us of course, no one would ever let their child stare or comment. If they even looked at her too long someone would say something to intercede and redirect. The world around us had sympathy and understood how much those things could hurt. Kids don’t know that they are being mean or that… Continue

Moving House

So we finally bit the bullet and are moving house. The thought of it is overwhelming – so much crap to be sorted, packed or purged. With six kids, I know you can imagine just how much crap we’re talking here. Adding further stress is the prospect of making our current house look nice enough that some other family will want to buy it.

Getting our house sale-ready will be a big job. My kids have left their marks – on the… Continue

Holiday Survival Tactics

If you’ve read the Holiday Survival Tactics chapter in The Must-Have Mom Manual you already know about the Thanksgiving my brother-in-law told everyone to “Get the bleep out” of his house on Thanksgiving. Although it was rather uncomfortable at the time, we can all laugh about it now. But the truth is, holidays can be stressful. All that family crammed together, trying make all the… Continue

Are you the 'bad cop' or the 'good cop' with your kids?

If you and your spouse take opposing roles in dealing with your kids, you’re not alone. Many parents take on the roles of “good cop” and “bad cop” in the family. For instance, Dad is the kid’s best buddy, and mom is the nag. Or dad is strict and mom is a sympathizer.

Which “cop” is right? And should you be a cop at all?…
