The Other Mother

Today a young mom in a grocery store stepped over her son while he laid flat on the floor in the cereal aisle having an all- out screaming tantrum (been there done that). As I passed slowly and smiled sincerely, she apologized profusely with sheer desperation and tears in her eyes. My heart immediately went out to her.  Here is where things got interesting. There were two other women in the aisle…

Etsy Store

Okay, so in the midst of my daily insanity, I will also soon be opening an Etsy shop. I will be selling photography, handmade candle holders made from recycled materials, and handmade, customized aprons and tutus. I have not set up my sewing workspace yet, but will be doing that in the next couple of days.

I've noticed that I have a ton of creative energy stored up, and between working on my writing and taking care of this crazy family, I need an outlet. So, out comes the sewing…

Rascal Got Locked in Doggy Jail

Rascal is a sneaky little Elf, he took off to the North Pole early last night.  He wanted to go back early so that he could visit Rudolf.  While sneaking, back into the house last night he found himself locked himself in the dog’s kennel.  I found him this morning, he looked so sad and scared while trying to get our attention to let him out of the kennel.  When I took a closer look I found the dog’s bone in his mouth and a sign attached to the kennel door asking for…

Easy Buffalo Chicken with a Ranch Salad

So last night, after spending the entire day with an infant that refused to be put down, even for a second, because he wasn’t feeling well I was at a loss as to what to make for dinner. All that screaming really did a number on my ability to thinkclearly. Since I had taken out some chicken to defrost I did the only sane thing I could think of: I started pulling ingredients out of my pantry to come up with a recipe. I really…

Things I've Learned This Week

** The SNL "Schweddy Balls" skit just never ever gets old.

** I'm still not a fan of LED Christmas lights.

** Candy Cane Chapstick is the bomb dot com.  For real.

The True Meaning of Christmas

As a kid, it's hard to see the big, wide world outside your own tiny bubble of existence.  (Heck, it's not easy even as an adult sometimes!)  That's why I've made it my mission to try to teach my kids to help out people in need.  And one of my favorite holiday traditions for our family is to help fulfill the Christmas wish list of a child in need.

For the past…

Really?!

I swear that I am actually going to have a heat stroke from these hot flashes!  I am burning from the top of my head to the tips of my toes.  I know what to expect and what is happening but I am not liking it at all.  I am not finding anything good about starting menopause.  So far, the hot flashes or as I prefer to call them "Power Surges", are the main symptom that I am experiencing.  Well and maybe the mood swings.  I am about ready to just raise my fist and yell Bring it On!! I…

A Fussy Baby Makes for a Long Thursday

Today has been a long day. My brain hurts from coping with a fussy baby. And mama could really use a nap.

1. I am officially obsessed with the Hershey’s Kisses Mint Truffle flavor. I bought them for some cookies that I was going to make this weekend. But I might just end up eating all of the kisses before then. Oops!

2. Have you started thinking about New Year’s? My lovely girl Laura and I were…

Creamy Crockpot Chicken

I pulled this out of Rocco’s book-bag this week.  When I asked where Mary was, his response was, “Mary went out shopping.” And Roman said, “Yeah! Mawy’s buying Chwistmas presents!”

I mean, at least they knew where she was, right?

I happened to do more Christmas shopping of my own this…

Memory Can

After a trip with my husband I was looking for a way to keep our collection of rocks from the trip in view and seen.  I wanted the memories to be right there everyday, in my sight.  I made this great craft to help me do that: Memory Can

As The Spitballs Fly

My son spat in the house yesterday. Maybe I shouldn’t have shared that, but I know that my son’s behavior, though wholly unacceptable, still falls within the realm of what is normal for a kindergartner testing the boundaries. I know he is truly a gentle soul. But when the saliva hit the floor of our family room, I hit the roof – and nearly smacked my kid.

“Did you just spit?” I cried. “To your room! No treats for a week!”

As Griffin ran upstairs sobbing, I…
