Magnificent Monday - TAN with Mind Maps

Magnificent Monday - it is magnificent to mind map a plan and take action now.

Each Magnificent Monday throughout the month of November will be dedicated to the idea of getting TAN -Take Action Now.  We all have things we want to accomplish, goals we would like to reach and journeys we would like to make. There is one thing stopping us, a refusal to TAN, take action now. Last week was all about, why you should…

Teach Your Child the Dangers That Lurk on the Internet – Part 3

Did you know that your teenager needs to know how to use social media safely, to avoid putting themselves in a dangerous situation.  The internet is great for connecting your teens to their friends online but many teens are social creatures and love that they can connect with people from all over the place.  However, doing so puts them at risks for cyber bullyling, cyber stalkers, pornography, downloading viruses unknowingly, and download illegal software, music, or movies.  To read the full…

A Little Sunday Night Reading For Ya

If you’re living anywhere near me in the frigid tundra, you’re probably realizing that the weather has gone for seasonably fall like to…well, the start of winter in the frigid tundra. This morning when I woke up (at six am with la babe), it was raining. By noon when I let the dog out, that rain had frozen on my deck, leaving behind a lovely sheet of ice – and leaving me terrified that my moose of a pooch was going to fall down. Thankfully,…

FAB MOM SUNDAY SUPPER - Motherhood / Personhood

"Women do not have to sacrifice personhood if they are mothers. They do not have to sacrifice motherhood in order to be persons. Liberation was meant to expand women's opportunities, not to limit them. The self-esteem that has been found in new pursuits can also be found in mothering." -Elaine Heffner

A DIY Christmas: I Started Decorating for Christmas Yesterday

Ok. Finally, I couldn’t stand it – the fact that my house still looks like it belongs in the middle of July more than the middle of November. Oh – or the fact that my storage room looks like THIS and won’t be looking any better until I have a chance to go through all of our decoration boxes:

So I decided to start …

Veteran's Day

Since this is Veterans Day, I am from a family of veterans and married to a Marine, this day holds special meaning.  I have never taken for granted the sacrifices our military members have made for everything I hold dear as an American.  All of my family members that are veterans are my heroes, as are all veterans, but they do hold a special place in my heart.  I have written a blog post about one special veteran this week in honor of Veterans Day.  He was an amazing man.  I hope you will…

Serene Sunday - What Inspires You

Serene Sunday - finding what inspires you can bring you serenity.

Inspiration is often defined as the process of being mentally stimulated to do something or to feel something. Inspiration is often thought of in relation to something creative. When I think of inspiration, I think of something that gives a little push to someone to get them to take a leap. It is important to find out what inspires you to do your best and to move forward. Sometimes, life gets hard and when it does, work…

How to Treat Mommy in an Emergency

It was Saturday morning, so after a long, stressful week I was looking forward to taking a run around the block. By "run" I mean "mostly walk," but I managed to break into a slow jog a couple of times along the way. (I'm not much of a runner. My theory is that my ancestors were royalty from England, so it is not in my blood to be active or athletic in any way. But I occasionally attempt some sort of physical activity in order to avoid dropping dead of a laziness-induced heart… Continue

"Too Cute" on Animal Planet Gets "Too Racy"

The "Too Cute" series on Animal Planet is one of my favorite shows to watch with my 10-year-old daughter because it's, well, cute! I consider it one of the few "safe" programs to watch with kids because it's pretty wholesome and innocent.

If you've never seen the show, it consists of close-ups of fuzzy baby creatures doing adorable things such as falling down, rolling over, and getting stuck in silly places. Most of the time, it follows a litter of kittens or puppies from birth to… Continue

Best Supplements for Aspergers Syndrome

My 8-year-old son has mild Asperger's, which often results in "sticky" thoughts and vocal tics. By "sticky" thoughts I mean these obsessive ideas that he just can't get past. For instance, if he forgets to watch a favorite TV show, he will whine, complain, and cry about it for hours afterward. The thought gets "stuck" in his head.

He is very aware of this problem, and when I say, "Is your brain sticky today, Buddy?" he'll say, "Yes, but I can't help it!"

As a result of the… Continue

Tweens and Responsibility: Let Them Spread Their Wings

In recent years I've realized that my husband and I have entered the ”golden years” of parenting. The kids are no longer babies, but they haven't yet reached teenage hell. They play independently, they bathe themselves, and they know how to use the toilet. As a result, we get to have intelligent conversations with them, play complex games with them, and even teach them to get their own drinks and snacks. It's a glorious time to be a parent!

Unfortunately, the ”golden years” are not… Continue

Alternative Way to Treat Childhood Asthma?

My daughter was diagnosed with asthma when she was 3 years old. It has never been serious and only seems to flare up when she gets sick. She has only had one real asthma "attack" in which she felt she couldn't breathe and we had to give her the albuterol rescue inhaler. The other times have just been nonstop coughs and wheezing.

The doctors keep telling us she should outgrow it, but every time we think we're done with her asthma she gets another cough that brings that dreaded inhaler… Continue

What it Takes to Convince Lucy to Take a Pretty Picture

I know, I know. Something’s been lacking around here lately. And that something would be lots and lots of pictures of my miniature moose – aka Lucy the wonder dog. But you guys have no idea what it takes to convince this wannabe supermodel to take a couple of nice pictures! For one, I have to bribe her. Two, I have to pretend like I’m not about to snap a few shots of her. And even then it’s not a guarantee.…

That's Right! I am the Bossity Boss!

Me: Zaffy, go do that incredibly boring thing I told you to do five minutes ago. You know, the same thing you neglected to do ten minutes ago, the first time I asked.

Zaffron: Fine.... bossity boss.

Me: Hey Zaff. For that you get to go to your bed.

Zaffron huffs and stomps off to her bedroom. I can't…
