Rascal Found the Toilet Paper and Made a Huge Mess

Rascal was still perched on the motion sensor when I went to bed last night and he seemed happy sitting up high watching the kids.  I didn’t hear him sneak out last night to head to the North Pole. The baby woke up around 1:30 early this morning and Rascal was no where to be found.  When I finally ready to go back to bed, Rascal was sneaking back into the house.  I told Rascal good night and that I would see him in the morning.

Come see the…

Zaffy's 13 Secrets About Boys

We're moving. Which means I'm packing. On Monday, I packed some of the girls' art supplies. Stuffed between some loose sheets of constructions paper, I found this booklet:

The Secret's About

Boys By: Zaffy

I now present to you my seven-year-old daughter's 13 beliefs about boys. Spelling…

Learning All The Time

I have been very distressed since Thanksgiving Eve. My daughter's complaints of pain had diminished a bit since the procedure, which is absolutely great news! She reports that the pain was greater prior to the procedure. So I am thinking...SUCCESS!

But Wednesday night, during the seasoning, stuffing, mixing, prepping of the turkey, mushrooms, stuffing and pumpkin pie making, she complained of mild pain, but didn't need any over the counter pain relief, but just wanted me to know that…

Influential first post

Sitting in the car pick-up line at the elementary school I notice my new blogging account has been approved. How ironic. I want my first blog to be meaningful, inspirational and capture an audience. Ha-ha! Neither do I have the patience with my Galaxy Nexus to sit and do this but I also have no time for that. I am early, the line gets beastly if you are even arriving just as school ends, but three minutes is hardly time for a masterpiece.

I am too eager to wait until I get home to write my… Continue

Book Review: Serial Date, by D.V. Berkom

Serial Date was a surprisingly entertaining read filled with witty writing and dark humor.

In an unexpected turn of fate, former assassin Leine Basso is offered a job working security in Los Angeles at a gigantic hit reality show called  Serial Date–where beautiful young women get to date ex-cons posing as serial killers. Though L.A.brings her bad memories, Leine…

DIY Christmas: An Elegantly Simple Christmas Tree

Over the Thanksgiving weekend – ok, ON Thanksgiving – we put our Christmastree up! And yes – that would be a nine foot tree in an eight-and-a-half foot space. Since we went with the faux tree, I was able to bend the top pine sections of the tree down, and ultimately covered them with a big ribbon – and now you can’t even tell that the tree was too tall for the space!

When it comes to tree decorations, I am truly of the notion that the…

I Caught Rascal Climbing the Walls and Perching Himself on A Motion Sensor

Last night as I was getting ready to go to bed, I opened the refrigerator door so that I could get a drink and Rascal comes bouncing out.  It was a site to see him bouncing around the house, similar to one of those high bouncy ball that bounces out of control.  He calmed down long enough to sneak out of the house so that he could visit with Santa Claus while the kids were sleeping.

Find the rest of the story and photos of Rascal on…

Vacation, Interrupted

Vacations are heavenly. Vacations are heavenly when you're young. Vacations are heavenly when you don't have children.

Having children makes a vacation fun in a different sort of way -- like fun in the way that watching your favorite movie with constant interruptions is fun.  You enjoy the snippets of the movie while you wipe a poopy ass. A baby's poopy ass.…

Know The Power Of No

It’s a small word that requires great conviction. It’s a short word with a lifelong lasting impact. It’s a negative that achieves much positive. It’s the power of NO.

In today’s permissive society, it’s YES that’s the ruling force of the day. Parenting books and articles are replete with philosophies, expounding on the importance of understanding your child and showing him endless love. This is crucial, of course. Yet, when parents take these philosophies too far, the result can be a…

The Following Days

After Jason leaves, I immediately get ready for bed. In a fog like crying daze, I take a shower, brush my teeth and change into shorts and a t-shirt. As I lay in bed, my thoughts are anything but still. They are rapid, multi-directional, and never ending.

What am I going to do? How will this affect my business? I’ve worked so hard on starting and growing it. Now what’s going to happen? I can’t believe Jason said that. Why did he react that way?

I stop crying for a…

I Know a Sucker When I See One... in the Mirror

So, I'm at the store waiting in line to buy my stuff, chatting on the phone with my friend, Toni. (How about that for a shout-out, Toni? You do still read this blog, right?)

So, I'm waiting my turn, minding my own business, regaling Toni with the latest hilarity in my life when a quick movement behind me catches my attention. Something has changed but I'm not sure what. I…

Should I Try Hotwire or Priceline? Check out Better Bidding For Answers

Have you ever looked at Hotwire or Priceline and wondered if you should just "go for it" and put in a bid for a hotel room and accept a hotel without knowing which one you would be staying at? I was very hesitant to try it, but, eventually, decided to see what I could come up with. For a long time, Hotwire would only let you blindly accept a pre-determined price for a hotel property without knowing which hotel you were actually getting. Of course, the number of stars, approximate location…

Zoo Highlights: Columbus Zoo

I love visiting zoos. Most zoos these days are very well laid out with natural surroundings and top notch care for the animals. An afternoon at the zoo can be such a wonderful learning experience for kids. I wanted to highlight some of the zoos I have enjoyed visiting, starting with The Columbus Zoo.

The Columbus Zoo is one of the largest zoos in the country boasting eight distinct sections, divided according to world regions. The zoo was under the direction of famed zookeeper,…
