Yesterday, I showed you guys our outdoor garlands. Well – I showed you one of ouroutdoor garlands. Since I still don’t have an extension cord to plug them in, I really don’t have a completely finished project to show you. But all in due time, my friends: the hubs is working on re-organizing the garage. Which means that I should have an…

Happy Day After Thanksgiving - From the Eyes of a Baby Mama

Happy day after Thanksgiving! Yesterday, we gave thanks. This morning, I sat around and appreciated two of the things I’m thankful for (besides my amazing hubs): my little moose and my big moose. Aka RJ and Lucy. The three of us sat around – well, these two slept and mama worked, but still: we did it from the couch. My plan was to brave Black Friday around ten – because there were some awesome little shoes I wanted to pick up for the little guy – but then it snowed last…

Learn How to Properly Hand Express Breast Milk

Sally is a stay at home mom to her newborn infant. She planned on exclusively breastfeeding her baby; however, one day Jacob decided to skip a feeding. When Sally was pregnant, she never researched breast pumps or what to do in case she ended up with engorged breasts. She wasn’t prepared when her breasts became engorged and they began hurting.

The Toilet--I Mean Turkey--Bowl

As we were ushering our children and their grandparents into cars to go to the 39th Annual Turkey Bowl – a tradition my husband has been a part of since the early 1990s – Jeff spied me slipping a notebook into my parka. “Oooohhhh!” he exclaimed, shaking his head. “I thought your zeal for my participation was somewhat atypical.”

When we first dated, I encouraged my husband to play in this Thanksgiving Day touch football game with a group of fellows he once lived with in…

Things I've Learned This Week

** The world would be a lot happier if everyone ate Thanksgiving dinner in their pajamas.

** Chuck E. Cheese is totally a rat, not a mouse -- am I right or am I right?

** That stupid Taylor Swift song is never ever ever gonna get out of my damn head.

** "Benign" is truly a magical word.

** A successful…

DIY Christmas: Time to Hang Some Garlands - The Outdoor Version

Now that Thanksgiving is over and you’re home from all that Black Friday shopping, you know what you want to do. No, not take a nap. Not wrap all those holiday gifts. You want to decorate for Christmas, duh! And where better to start than by putting up some garlands. Right? I thought so.

Let’s start with the outdoor ones first – since it’s freezing in the frigid tundra today, you probably want to get these out of the way first!

I have two banisters on our front…

How to Make Transitioning Your Baby Into Their Own Room Easier

Many parents work very hard to decorate a nursery for their baby; however, most parents will tell you that their child didn’t sleep in his or her own room for the first few weeks.  During those first few weeks most parents choose to keep the baby in their room so that they can easily check on them during the middle of the night.  Read the full story at: Uplifting Families…

Chocolate Chip Cookies That Are Similar to the Cookies in the Mall

Learn how to make chocolate chip cookies that are similar to the ones that you can buy at the mall.  I made the Nestle Tollhouse version and few years ago.  When I tasted them, they tasted bland as if something was missing.  These cookies were exactly what I was looking for.  For the recipe, visit us at Uplifting Families for the full recipe.

Recipe for a Moist and Juicy Turkey

For Thanksgiving, we go to my husband’s parents house each year.  I haven’t had to cook a turkey in a long time, which I kinda miss because my turkey always came out very moist and juicy.  In fact, many years ago I would cook the turkey on the BBQ grill (charcoal).  I loved cooking on the BBQ grill because that meant that I had more room in my oven for cooking the side dishes.  However, you can still make my awesome turkey in the oven.  For the recipe for a moist and juicy turkey learn…

DIY Christmas: An Artsy Entryway Tree

Every entryway needs a little holiday cheer. But not every entryway has a lot ofspace for an full on Christmas tree. Which is where sticking some sticks in a vase can come in handy. Ok – this is a little more involved than just tossing some sticks in a vase. But to be honest, it’s not that much harder than it sounds! Before you start, you’re going to need a variety of “sticks” from the floral section of the craft store (all of mine other than the skinny gold ones…

That Bulky Thing

This may seem like a weird thing to be thankful for, but I’m thankful for that bulky mattress…

So, we upgraded to a new bed months ago. However, our old king mattress still lives in our home, much to my chagrin. The kids protested getting rid of it.  “Please mom, not yet!” It’s now become one of the kids’ favorite…
