I can easily point the finger of blame at my mother. When I was four she enrolled me in the Weekly Reader Book Club. Two brand new books a month arrived addressed to me. I can still remember the first two, Danny the Dinosaur and Sammy the Seal by Syd Hoff. I digested these books until I knew every line. Two new books found a space on my bookshelf every month. By the time I reached first grade, I had more books than the library in my classroom.
I had a library card too but during the… Continue

Today is very special addition of Fun Fact Friday because it is my baby girl's birthday. Miss Kayla Grace Suarez is 2 years old today, and in her honor I'm going to share a fact about her.
When Kayla was only 4 months old, she caught whooping cough.
Yes, the real deal, actual whooping cough. She was up to date on all her immunizations, but whooping cough is one of those immunizations that you get in stages. Because of her young age she only had one of the shots so far… Continue

For the first time in my life, I am feeling like one of the older members in the crowd. By older, I mean a bit over 45. I have one child in college and a junior in high school which means, I'm kind of looking forward to the next stage of my life- empty nesting.
I am offering the following as a pseudo big sister. I've been where many of you are. We all have our opinions, thank goodness, so take it for what it's worth.
1. Kids will potty train when they are… Continue

Why is it that 90% of my underwear doesn't fit properly? Why is it that even though you buy the same kind in the same size they NEVER fit the same? Then, why am I unable to toss said non fitting undies out? My drawers have become crammed with undies that pinch, bind, creep, ride up, roll down, give bad lines, show crack, produce muffin top or are just plain weird. HOW am I not be a nice and pleasant person with a wedgie 6.3 days out of the week??
Enjoy foolishness? Check out my… Continue

It's football season again and I am SO NOT a fan. It's not that I don't understand the game, it's just that I find it to be boring most of the time.
MOST of the time I said.
There are certain things I do like and just like the olympics
, I find my own way to enjoy watching it.
For example, I love seeing the players get hurt. Isn't that awful? It's true… Continue

Dear Nosy Onlooker,
I know you're watching me. You're everywhere. I pray for a positive outlook on my situation and I find it. But then I have moments. Moments when you onlookers just look at me funny and make me feel negative, not about my daughter's handicaps, but about you. Moments when, for some unknown reason, you feel the need to tell me that I must be doing something wrong because my child… Continue

When I decided to set up this blog, coming up with the name and 'mission statement,' if you will, was difficult. I kept thinking of using the term 'special needs' but would quickly push that idea away. I perceived the title as condescending so I initially kept it out.
Today I came across the definition of the word special. My in-depth review of the word's meaning helped me realize what a… Continue

Wow! The last time I posted here was in July?! It doesn't seem like that long ago yet here we are six months later, well on the way to the holidays. Happy Holidays to all - I'm off the the mall (well, online that is).
