Old and New Traditions

We made it through Christmas!

Every year it comes faster and faster. It builds to this glorious day of gluttony and gifts and then it's all over. Just. like. that.…

Changing Holidays

When you are growing up, the holidays are like the most magical time of year. Then, as you get older and money, chaos, and stress are added to the equation, some of that magic is lost. For me, I love Christmas, because I have this wonderful idea in my mind of what it should be. So far, I've never seen any reality to that dream, but maybe one day.

For now, Christmas unfortunately comes and goes like any other day of the year, only with presents and more visits with family than…

Establishing Traditions

Last week as I frantically prepared for Christmas day It dawned on me that I was missing out on what Christmas was really about. I was somewhat ashamed and angry with myself for spending hours in the stores only to return home absolutely exhausted and irritable. This was not me at all.  I enjoy the serenity of the holidays and spending quality time with my…

WAHM: Curating an Audience for Your Blog

Obviously, I’m a blogger. Writing is more than just a place to express myself: it’s how I relax throughout the crazy that tends to be my daily life. Since I’ve been blogging for so long {since 2007, if you really wanted to know}, I have extensive experience in creating a blogging “audience”, if you will. If you’re just starting out – or even if you’ve been blogging for a long time – you might feel overwhelmed at the prospect of cultivating a strong blog…

Lamaze Birthing Classes are Designed to Empower Expectant Mothers

The Lamaze birthing technique is probably the most common child birthing technique that is taught  by hospitals and child birth educators.  This birthing technique was created by Dr Fernand Lamaze in the 1940′s to help women cope with the pain of childbirth.  He felt that women were capable of giving birth without the need of medical intervention.  The goal of his techniques was to empower women and teach them how to cope with child birth pain.

The Mac N Cheese Incident of 2012

My son has been sitting in his high chair for about 20 minutes now going for the gold in lunch picketing.  Bet you didn't know that was an Olympic sport huh?  Well in this family it is.  Apparently he is not feeling Mac N Cheese today because it's the fancy Christmas dinner kind and not the kind that comes out of a box labeled Kraft.  Ooooh, life altering big freakin difference there!

I tried to explain to him that he was acting a fool and he would not be getting…

The Joys Of The Little Things And Nothing At All

Today my apartment is a hot mess.  There are cheerios on the floor, batteries overtaking the table, half drank  beverages on any and all hard surfaces, fingerprints and smudges on the glass, enough toys and empty boxes to make my normally somewhat together son beside himself with over stimulation, and an odd amount of clothing strewn about.  And I don't give a fudgesicle.

Today I'm watching my lovely goofball giggle and scream with excitement whilst running amuck…

Let's Talk About My Child Now

I am the queen of dominating a conversation, especially ones I wasn't involved in to begin with.  Having trouble coming up with ways to bring your child into a otherwise lame conversation is a toughie though, here are some surefire ways to get the ball rolling.

1.  "Oh I hear you're discussing how you finally finished your master's degree?  That's awesome but hey, I created life, here are some pictures.  I bet they're a lot cuter than your…

Merry Day After Christmas!

The past few days made up my baby’s first Christmas – and I honestly can’t believe that they’re already over! Between all of the shopping and preparing and visiting and hosting, Christmas certainly went by in a blur. I really enjoyed the past five days. But I’m also a little sad that our first holiday season with our first little one is coming to a close.

But with that being said, our first Christmas with RJ certainly was a…

Our simple Christmas meal..

Called up few restaurants in the late afternoon but all same reply, "Sorry, full.." or "Come around 8pm.." Not surprising to hear that especially during the festive season... Those popular eatery places are normally crowded or full.. unless we are willing to wait but stomach usually cannot wait that long.. hahaha... so where shall we go for our food... or what shall we eat..... I asked my kids... and their answer was ....

Yes... Yours Truly ended up folding up her sleeves and…

Mgazi Puts Her Foot Down

Two of my co-workers got married this year. In the first wedding, my girls were flower girls. They got new dresses, little gifts from the bride, a lot of attention, and cake. They were thrilled.

The second wedding was for adult guests only. My kids weren't even invited. Zaffy accepted this fate, content that she would attend the rehearsal dinner (Russell was…

Christmas Party Boy

So, me and my son resigned ourselves to an afternoon of gender bending (I myself lightened her load by pacing the dance floor in the plastic cracker moustache I found on the floor).

Christmas Greetings And A Farewell...

Tomorrow is Christmas Day... and wishes of Merry Christmas and Happy New Year has been "flying" here and there in Facebook, in blog posts, Sms-es, telephone calls... and from colleagues, friends and family...

So how are you celebrating your Christmas today?  Tomorrow? As for me, going to church is something quite sombre tomorrow morning... no, it is not about the Christmas sermon... the sad news is that my Pastor will be making his last appearance in my church tomorrow and he will…
