Feminism

I lived in the 1930’s and 1940’s as a preteen and teen. Lived there. To the point that I thought communism was still illegal in the States. Do you understand? Thought McCarthyism had won or something, if I

really even knew what McCarthyism was.

Don’t be fooled by the title of the post. It isn’t that I was obsessed with the women’s rights movement or anything of the sort. No, I was just obsessed with the time period. The dresses. The movies. The

shoes (chunky heels? Come on!…

Behind The Scenes of a National Talk Show w/Lizzie Bermudez

Ever watch a talk show and wonder what in the world goes on behind the

scenes? Well, I’m gonna show you! Today, I brought my video camera

along while I got ready for a live tv segment on ABC-7’s, The View From

the Bay. Let me tell you there’s a whole lot of prepping that goes way

before the show ever goes live. Including me practicing my

“eco-friendly products” segment at home in between preschool drop off

and pick up.… Continue

6 Year Old Gives Back to Other Children with Epilepsy

In June 2008, Jamie woke up early one morning and joined me in her office working. Within five minutes of falling back to sleep on the couch, Jamie started making odd noises. I looked over and saw what looked like a right side stroke which scared me beyond belief. She was making such an odd noise, her right eye and right side of her mouth were twitching and she was unresponsive. I called for her older sister to help me and within minutes, she was up but drooling uncontrollably and incoherent.… Continue

tea and pecan pie...ooola la

Well St. Patrick's Day is right around the corner.

What do you do to celebrate the day?

Tea party 01.03.11

Well, I am celebrating with my favorite Pecan Pie.

It is in no way a traditional St. Patrick's Day thing...I just happen to love pecan pie and decided to…

I'm too sexy for this diaper... Baby modelling exposed

Glorious sunshine. It's been a long and difficult separation, yet it seems we'll soon be reunited for another torrid few months! Honestly, I've been lusting after the sun like something out of 9 1/2 Weeks. I didn't know the pull of Vitamin D could ever be synonymous with a young, strapping Mickey Rourke of yore, but there you go... I miss the long, long walks and the Toronto parks, not to mention the guilt-free gelato that invariably ensues. And hopefully -- if you'll excuse the dreadful pun --… Continue

One Block at a Time

“The man who removes a mountain begins by carrying away small stones.” ~Chinese Proverb

While playing Lego blocks with my daughter, yesterday afternoon, my attention was piqued by a home she had built for one of her little miniature dolls. She had erected the walls around the figurine, and in the excitement of the moment, she had forgotten to include a door.

Here was the poor little doll, sitting in a cluster of colored plastic bricks tightly intertwined together as… Continue

Lead by example to your kids

You don’t want your kid to undergo from early tooth decay, right? Much more have a bridge, or have a smile makeover in their teeth prematurely. So, as a parent it’s best to encourage your children to brush regularly. But take my advice, don’t force them. I learned it the hard way. Instead of my kid following my rules and advice, he lost interest in following at all.

So,…

Couponing beyond Inserts

I am often asked by those behind me in the check out lane, "Where do you find all of those coupons?" It seems like an easy question to answer, but really I could spend 20 minutes going through all the ways one could find coupons. Because so many people, especially those new to couponing, think that the Sunday paper is the only place to get coupons, I thought I would compile a list of great ways to get coupons other than the Sunday…

I Don't Let Just Anyone See My Underwear

My husband and I fold laundry together. It’s one of the only chores we can share and still enjoy each other’s company, not only because it’s the only household job that neither of us has passively and purposely fumbled to get out of, but because we joke around a lot while we’re folding, like we just met.

The conversation is also mixed with nostalgia.

“When did our baby start wearing size 12 jeans?” We hold the boys’ pants up to ourselves and observe how close they are to… Continue

I want Moooosic Mummy!

This morning, after the dulcit tones of

"Mummmmmmyyyyy I wake!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

Swiftly followed by footsteps more befitting of a baby elephant than a 2 year old, my toddler arrived at my bedside.

We did our normal ritual. Wee wee, Peppa slippers, screams because I try and get away without carrying her down the stairs (oh my poor back).

Finally we arrive in the kitchen for milk. Things went wrong when she fell head first off the work surface and…
