This is one of the most frequent questions I get asked. The main thing to know about this is a work-from-home job should not have much out of pocket costs to get started. Because you work as an independent contractor, companies are allowed to charge you fees for the drug tests or background check but there should be no other fees involved and these fees should be minimal. A job should pay you by the hour or the minute or sometimes by the entry if it is a data entry or transcription type of…Continue

As with all families, our Christmas morning’s agenda is all about opening presents and pulling fun gifts and treats out of stockings. But before that even happens, everyone needs to hold tight until the coffee and hot chocolate drinks are made and, more importantly, that the Chelsea Buns (our Christmas morning tradition) are baked. We nibble on these wonderfully gooey, decadent Chelsea Buns that I have prepared the night and just popped in the oven that morning. They are sooooo easy to make…Continue

As Christmas draws near, I'm reminded of the one parenting topic that your father and I don't quite see eye-to-eye on. Santa Claus. I know I run the risk of being labeled a scrooge here, but I'm not totally sold on 'doing the Santa thing' with you. You sure do look cute in a Santa hat, though.…

OK I am venting today. I was so looking froward to tacos and bought 2 boxes of hard corn shells, got them home, prepared the meet, cheese etc and opened up the taco shells to put them in the oven and BAM, 100% broken. I am serious. They were the last thing I did, food was on the table and I have no…Continue

My husband and I have been going through a rough patch. It has lasted a little over a year, about the time we put our old house on the market, and has progressively gotten a little less easy to live with. I don't think we are headed for divorce, but I will be honest, sometimes, during the really bad times, I feel like we could be. Usually late at night when I am left alone with my thoughts. My brain, if left alone long enough, can come up with just about every darkening scenario there…Continue

It is finally official! My story Delivered Not By The Stork has been selected for publication in the new Chicken Soup for the Soul: New Moms. The newest book of the Chicken Soup series will be in the bookstores on March 8, 2011.
I wanted to take some time today to acknowledge some truly heartfelt gestures. Often times it's so very easy to get wrapped up in the materialism that the Christmas season brings. This sale & that sale & what the neighbors are buying for their kids can really take the joy right out of what should be the most joyous season of the year.
Many of my family members are with out jobs this season or are facing some trying times either…

My daughter was incredibly excited about graduating from elementary school. A budding artist, she even drew a portrait of herself and her friends with the words "We're middle schoolers now!" above it in bold print. But the beginning of the year was a disaster.
The bus route confused her. The school pace was intimidating. And then, in gym, she hesitated before passing a sheet of paper to her partner. "Give it to me, you retard," the girl said. My daughter looked back to see…Continue
