Tips to Prevent Getting an Infectious Disease While on Vacation

Dr. Brent W. Laartz thought he was in for the ride of his lifetime when he set out on a horseback riding excursion in Costa Rica.

Admittedly younger and more naïve than he is today, Laartz – an infectious disease specialist and author of the book How to Avoid Contagious Diseases…

I'm addicted to my iPhone

I have a confession to make. I am addicted to my iPhone. I can’t leave the house without it. I am always on it. I love it. Sometimes I think my husband regrets the day he said I should get an iPhone. The list of reasons why, as a busy mom, I love my iPhone include: Read the list here

Join Mama w/MAMABlogger365 initiative ~ Gwyneth Paltrow, Stress & Strategies, raising awareness for M.O.M.

It’s so easy to turn inward when we think about motherhood and what it means and how we do it every day. But even celebrities are not immune to trying to do it all – of course, their circumstances and list of daily to-do’s are different, but in essence, maybe not so much, as evidenced by…

Yellow makes me feel like a banana . . .

Does yellow make you feel like a banana? Is red just like lava? And does purple make you feel like an onion? If so, then you, too, will succeed as an Art Mom in my child's classroom.

Being an Art Mom is simple: You prepare a little program that teaches the kids about artists or color or a style of art, and then develop a little project to go with it. It's a lot of fun - second graders are a very appreciative audience.

I decided to talk about color and moods - you know, how does…

9 Fat-Burning Foods and Simple, Satisfying, and Economical Lunch Ideas

Whether or not you are trying to lose weight, reducing your fat intake and eating foods that help your liver (your body’s main fat-metabolizing organ) burn fat better is a healthy choice.

You can also make your choices greener by shopping from local farmers (particularly organic farmers).

There are other foods that fight fat, but here are nine ideas from Care2.

1. Leafy Greens 2.  Cayenne 3. Oatmeal 4. Cinnamon

5.  Beans and Legumes 6. and 7. Garlic…

One Hundred and Fifty-Five

A few months ago, I shared that my husband and I were trying to conceive a second child. It was with great difficulty and a sense of defeat that I wrote about our struggles with fertility. It has been my heart's desire to provide a sibling for my daughter. I was raised an only child and I remember the loneliness I felt while growing up... something I don't want for my daughter....…

In the middle...

I am a middle child. They say the worst placement is in between girls. I had the experience of being a little sister and a big sister. I had the experience of being in between two very different people. I have the gift being able to see many points of view.

I am still in the middle. It is a theme that dominates my life.

I am in the middle of keeping teenage girls quiet at 1 am…

ROTARY-PHONE GOD

You know what?? Back in the day, rotary phones didn't have speed-dial or fast connection. No matter what, when making a call, we had to patiently DIAL ten digits, one-by-one & wait for the caller to pick up. As far as expecting immediate answers, rotary phones inadvertently taught us patience. Today, when I'm trying to call God, do you think I'm expecting fast-speed, immediate cell-phone service out of Him? Perhaps God is still taking calls His way...i.e., the rotary way. Maybe what I… Continue

The Lengths at Wich Spammers Will Go

So this morning, I wake up to a comment (waiting for approval) on my blog from a desperate spammer trying oh so hard to get his comment approved on my blog. I really really don't know what these people are thinking, but clearly they think with a different part of the brain than the majority.

Cinnamon Buns

I know you are all aware of my love for spas, and all things spa-like. I imagine Heaven is like Bath & Bodyworks. I can never walk out of this particular store without a heavy bag and a lighter pocketbook.

I’ve also been learning more about essential oils and their healing properties. I have a car diffuser in both of my cars with the essence of lavender calming my daily drive. Apparently, it is so strong my husband could smell it from two cars away in a parking lot. If the wafting…

Mothers v Doctors- Who Knows Best?

I just published a book.  It is a true story.  I wrote it to help other moms ensure that children thrive.  Let me know what you think.  Here is an excerpt from Little Patient Big Doctor: One Mother's Journey

It was apparent to most who saw Ethan that the redness and cuts on his face were not just newborn scratches and rosiness.  Advice poured in from all around.  .  . .

And so, through the kind advice of others, I found myself in an…
