A Single Shard + Korean Brush Painting at LACMA = Kids Off The Couch

Driving around Los Angeles can be like taking a trip around the world, with signs in different languages, and even different alphabets. We love traveling around the world -- and back in time as well -- by reading books set in different…

The Guilt Of Going Out When You're A Mom

I think every parent deserves a break. I think couples still need to make sure they get their one on one time. Tomorrow is my birthday celebration and my cousin, Kathleen will babysit Landon. He's her God son and she really enjoys her time with him. My mother in law will be taking Hannah for the night. She likes to refer to their time together as "girl's night in." We're so lucky to have such helpful people.

But I feel guilty. Every time we go out! Which is rare!

HGTV's House Hunters makes home buying look so easy...too bad it's not!

I'm an HGTV fan fanatic. Really! My husband says that I have the channel on 24/7. Maybe because I'm slightly obsessed with buying a new home and/or updating our current living arrangements -- or maybe just because the show is kid friendly and I can have it on and not worry about my toddlers hearing or seeing anything that should not.

One of my favorite shows is HGTV's House Hunters. I love that show. I mean three houses in a half hour and BOOM, the couple always seems to…

But I Don't Want To!

Megan is my third daughter. She is a daddy's girl through and through and an angel from God. She is fun loving, serious, demanding, and amazing! We can not imagine our lives without her!

And she has the most beautiful hair! She is the only one of our girls to be born with hair. Both Katie and Sarah were bald and didn't really even start growing their hair until after age 2. Megan is 18…

I'm Too Young for This....

I'm going to set the scene for you. It's bedtime, last night. After having watched an amazing movie and one of my favorite TV shows, I'm extremely exhausted from not having gotten much sleep the night before. So, I zombie-like drudge off to the bathroom to splash water on my face, brush my teeth, and head to bed. I'm slightly bent over the sink, running water on my toothbrush, when I glance up for a second... a second that changed my life forever. Staring back at me in the reflection of the… Continue

My Dream Job

Have you ever wondered what the perfect job would be? Just letting your mind wander to the possibilities without restrictions, obligations, or geography? A few years ago, I would have loved to have been a legislative aid on Capitol Hill. However, with all of the political bullshit that never seems to change despite what flavor of the month is in power, being a congressional aid just doesn’t sound that much fun any more.

Fashion Fridays- It's Beanie Weather

With all the down time I had while my internet was not running, I was able to complete some projects I had on the back burner. One of those things was to make new beanies for my daughters to match the new coats they bought for the season. Here is the older of the 2 modeling hers. continued...

"Alaska? What is it like living there?"

Nine times out of ten, when people find out that I live in Alaska they ask, "Alaska? What is it like living there?" Are the winters cold? Sure, but there is really no such thing as bad weather, just bad gear!!! Honestly, of all the places I've lived in the United States... Alaska is like NO other state. Believe it or not, the winter is my favorite! The holidays, the snow, the beauty of it all... The wonderful…

Shopping for Kids Holiday Gifts That They Actually Want (To Wear!)

It’s hard enough to find the time to shop for everyone on your list during the holiday season. In frustration, I know sometimes I’ll settle for a gift that I know isn’t exactly right just to cross the name off. And that sucks. Oprah is right. Giving gifts is often better than receiving them. No one wants to give a gift that’s not going to be loved, played with or worn. It’s exciting when you see something that you know the recipient will go crazy for. Fortunately, we hear that a lot about…

Having a Pretty Woman moment: "Don't judge a book by it's cover"

As much as I hate to admit it, they are right. Whoever these smart people are they seem to know what they are talking about. Sometimes.

So this book and its cover thing. We all know what it really means, that the person inside is sometimes very different to what their outer appearance conveys.

Take for example the classic instance that is the most famous one I can think of. Yes, I am talking about Julia Roberts in…

Fundraising for Salvation Army Giving Tree

I always have my monthly charity when you purchase a copy of one of my titles, but this month I am on a mission to see how much I can raise for the Salvation Army Giving Tree. As a young mother the Salvation Army provided a Christmas for my child when I was unable. Over the years they have help me with utility bills when I couldn't pay them and with rent when found myself a single mother once again. All donation will go to the Western Washington Chapter unless you specify otherwise, but I…
