Wacky Cake

I am making sure that I bake with my girls at least once a week this Summer.

We tie on our aprons, thoroughly wash our hands and get to work.

It is math and measuring. It is reading and comprehending. It is together time and it is love.

This week we made Wacky Cake. Possibly the richest and bestest chocolate cake ever.

Said cake was devoured within hours of frosting.…

Wordless Wednesday: Father's Day Edition!

In teaching The Boy the term “oxymoron” today, I used two examples to get the point across…”fighting for peace”, & “adult male”. The second example brings me to today’s post! Given all the birthday hubbub in Crazy Town this week, Father’s Day tends to take a back seat to the kidlets. To…

A Mother's Body

Ben and I went out for dinner Saturday night. And, in an effort to notch things up a bit, I let out my ponytail and changed out of my sport bra.

While I was in the shower I thought about what I’d wear, and decided on a pair of jeans that I’d purchased years ago, two pregnancies ago, in Chicago. And people, these are the kind of jeans that require you to bring your A-Game whenever you try them on. The kind that CANNOT go into the dryer,… Continue

5 Things I'll Never Buy Used

This weekend, I read an interesting article on Yahoo.com about 20 things to never buy used. Topping the list were two children’s products I totally agree with: cribs and car seats. The sad fact is cribs get recalled like there is no

tomorrow, so you never want to risk buying a model that’s been

recalled. Also, once a crib has been put together, it’s…

Want more? Full post with picture is located at http://dvcmom.blogspot.com

To celebrate our 10th Wedding Anniversary my husband and I took our first vacation ever without the kids. A three night getaway where Disney's exciting shopping and dining was our main focus. We chose to get the deluxe dining plan, and for $80 per person we were treated to three table service credits a day. On on special night we decided to splurge and spend two credits… Continue

Corn on the Cob Anyone?

Hubby sliced his thumb open last night prepping ears of corn to throw on the grill. He cut it at an angle from the top down through the middle of his thumb nail.

He called me after he did it and I was still 45 minutes from getting home after picking up both the kids. He’s so hard headed, I knew he was going to resist going to the emergency room – which is why he now has a deep Harry Potter style scar dead square between his eyes after refusing to get stitches from busting it…

Sending Your Child to College - Best Manual for Parents and Teens to Prepare

There are many books on the market that try to prepare parents

college. How helpful they are is hard to say. However, if you want a

book that will prepare you and your teens for everything you will need

to do and know, with great lists and ways to save money, then you must

Choose Your Own Adventure

I was reminded of this book series the other day. Just the mention of

it brought a smile to my face, along with a rush of warm fuzzies. I loved

these books.

For some reason, when I was a kid, it seems that we only ever went to

the library in the summertime. (Most likely for the summer reading

program that awarded us with our very own personal pan pizzas from Pizza

Hut, but I digress. Already.) I was a huge bookworm when I was

little. I'd… Continue
