What things should you teach your young child?

There is no right or wrong answer for this. Some parents teach their children respect, good manners, social etiquette, etc. Others think it’s important for their children to have fun and enjoy life, enjoy others and take advantage of every minute of pleasure they have because life, after all, is a tough journey. Whether you teach your child discipline, good morals, and responsibility or tolerance, respect and self worth, you are on the right track because you are trying to impart something…

Fresh Wave: Clear the Air

I am a huge fan of Fresh Wave odor eliminators. Not only are they eco-friendly, but they have no strong perfumes or fragrances to mask odors (which give me a serious headache). They are made of natural ingredients such…

Confidential Blogging

As I read a variety of blogs about different subjects, lifestyles, parenting, world affairs to name a few, I find myself getting a wider scope of how people think. It's an interesting hobby, this blogging lark, and one most people find enjoyable. I also read posts which make me cringe when I wonder how on earth they get away with what they write about. For example, the other day I read a post, very entertaining, about a teacher and her pupils.

My students are the best!

It's been a while, and this week has been packed. I work at a boarding school for underprivileged kids and every year we have "Creativity Week" where teachers split up into groups with students to work on projects. The students and teachers come up with ideas for the projects and then get to pick which they want to participate in. It's a great week where we get away from textbooks and homework and have FUN! My group is doing "Pamper Day". We are volunteering at a homeless shelter giving the… Continue

Missing: Rubber giraffe, goes by the name "Diaper Bag Sophie." She's about 6" tall, BPA free with long, skinny spotted legs, black crazy-town looking eyes, perma-grin & horns. Last seen in Isabel's mouth, possibly while we were at church or maybe in the grocery store. Vaguely remember seeing giraffe legs sticking out of the bag around the time of her disappearance, but I also left my car keys in the ignition at the mall last week, so I…

"Made to Crave" Book GIVEAWAY

The well-publicized book Made to Crave follows Lysa TerKeurst on her journey of discovering why she ate improperly, what she chose to do about it, and how she maintains her goal weight. I especially like this book because the author is real, authentic. There are no quick fixes and she does not pretend as if…

A Watched Tooth Never Cuts

Read my blog at

I've told pretty much everyone in the free world, but FYI, Aidan is teething.  However, this child has been teething FOREVER.  Or so it feels like.  We're pretty convinced that the top two teeth are going to come in right about at the same time because we can see the whites just behind the gum.  We've been able to see them for weeks and weeks.

Every night when I put him to bed I say "I think they're…

Women's Procurement Program

The U.S. Small Business Administration came through for women in small business this past Friday by opening up a program called the Women’s Procurement Program which set aside $30 billion dollars in federal funds to be available specifically for women owned small business contracts. This is a big opportunity for women owned small businesses and to see if you meet the qualifications you first have to have a business that is mostly(at least 51%) owned and operated by a woman or women who are U.S.… Continue

When Poltergeists Get In The Way Of Blogging

Yes, I know, among forward thinking, modern bloggers and tweeters who write and share amazing, passionate posts about realities - life struggles, parenting, marriage, careers, physical wellness, entrepreneurial goals - publishing a post about having a ghost can be considered a bit odd, as in strap that crazy chic onto a gurney and roll her behind into a padded room kinda…

Maria's Random Rants - This Ain’t No Hallmark Card It’s a Rant, But an Honest One

I’m no expert on love or marriage, I’m barely an expert at my own life, but over the years I think I’ve learned a few things worth sharing. I’ve had the pleasure, and sometimes the burden, of loving the same man for the last sixteen years. I was only nineteen when we started dating and naive enough to think all a marriage needed to survive was love. Sure was a fool back then, but I learned.…

The Gay Bully

When I dropped Sandor, my 8 year old son, off this morning he ran  to the playground, overwhelmed by his backpack. He never hesitated or even looked back at me. Instead he happily threw himself into the ocean of kids.

With stunning clarity, I remember the year Mary hated that ocean of kids. She would get out of the car soooo slowly, look at me, pleading with her eyes that I wouldn't make her go to…

Ask any pregnant woman and she will tell you that now she’s expecting what once smelled delicious  - like roasting coffee beans for example, has suddenly become the one smell that induces an overwhelming feeling of nausea. For some women the pregnant nose goes into smell overdrive with incredible detection ability, in fact increased smell sensitivity can save lives. Just ask your local gas company – pregnant…

Black Friday – it’s Not Just About Fashion

Fashion, eh? It comes and goes, then comes back around again, at once fleeting and eternal. A style is in one month and then is never heard of again – until it is heard of again, of course.

The quest for fashionable clothes never ends; it’s just that what is in vogue is always changing.…
