Family secret

First of all I want to make something really clear:

CHICKEN PARMISAN

FETTUCCINI ALFREDO

MACCARONI CHEESE

DO NOT EXIST IN THE ITALIAN FOOD TRADITION.

They have not even been mentioned once.

If you do have anything that looks like an Italian passport, well...for sure, you have never heard of them.

Unless, of…

Stuck in the middle with you

Amazing are the moments my children share with each other. Love between siblings is a love like no other. Sweet, fumbling hugs between Noah and Elise.  Gentle rocking of older sister cradling younger sister.  The innocence of babies curling into each other when we nap on my bed. The fierce love my children have for each other translates, for me, into the fierce love I have for my own brother… Continue

Mystery Meatloaf

I love meatloaf.  My family loves meatloaf.  Everyone loves meatloaf, and I am sure all of you have your own variation of meatloaf with hamburger, onions, and ketchup.  I never cared much for it when I was a child, but as a cook, I love being able to throw everything in a big bowl and get my hands dirty…like a little kid.

I also love a well-manicured hand.  I prefer wearing color on my fingernails rather than a neutral French manicure.  In the past, I have tried everything to get a…

Determination in Abundance

I feel as though my head is spinning right now. After starting the ball rolling last week for a transition to a different school, my life has been completely focused on being determined. In fact, I've never been as determined as I feel right now. Even when I published the book I didn't feel this determined.

Mommy's Wine: The Controversy

I don't know many women, unless they don't drink at all, that would argue with the fact that at the end of the day a nice glass of wine is like a big hug. Some women stay at home all day, and there is not a break to be had. No matter the age of your children, there is always something: the changing of diapers, clothes, feeding - whether it be…

What Type Of Thinker Are You, Learning About The Mind From Temple Grandin

The mind of Temple Grandin is fascinating because it works very differently from most of ours.  She is a visual thinker, thinking in pictures.  Recently there was an HBO movie about her life, starring Claire Danes, that won many awards.  The movie beautifully illustrates how her mind works.

Why does this matter? What can we learn from Temple…

Cooped Up

It rained all winter. A mix of rain and snow actually. And now that the sun has come out. Spring has arrived. Warmth has freed me from all of the layers.  And I'm feeling awfully cooped up this week.

It's raining again. Today was Day 2. Only. And it verged on the brink of beautiful and then hilarious followed by insane every hour. …

Did I Say NEVER?

With Jackson I was a very laid back parent.  Don't get me wrong.  It wasn't that I didn't discipline him.  I was just still somewhat of a child myself.  I didn't follow schedules.  I didn't enforce nap times.  I wasn't strict about what he ate or how much TV he watched.  I looked at other parents and thought wow, they are strict.  Poor kid.  I could never be like that with my kid.  Then I grew up.…
