Getting to College - Your Parental Role

There is no doubt that the transition from high school to college is a journey for both you and your teen. The magnitude of the move from 24/7 parent to empty-nester is not to be taken lightly, but your focus must be on helping your child in their journey. For many parents this requires a step back to allow your teen to explore their own needs and desires and take ownership of the process. But being involved without controlling the process can be a challenge.

50 days after Stage 2 interStim Implant!

My post

http://btrbb.blogspot.com/2011/01/interstim-update-50-days-out.html

It has been 50 days since my stage 2 InterStim surgery and today something really weird happened. Not bad but weird.

I have turned it up quite a bit over the past 50 days and it has been at a consistent 4.0 for about 2 weeks now.  I could feel…

Paying it Forward - the Brenda Novak Auction for Diabetes Research

I've been blessed many times in my life and for that reason, I believe in paying it forward. Whether it's by helping other writers through the Liberty States Fiction Writers or participating in various charitable events, I think it's the right thing to do.

That's why I never hesitate to contribute to the Brenda Novak Auction for Diabetes Research. This…

Inspiration (a Tribute to Transplanted Thoughts)

I'm new to the blogger world, very new by a lot of standards. I'm even newer to the blogger's social network. I joined a site called Studio 30+ and started reading a lot of what other people were writing. Some made me laugh, some I could totally relate to, but one particular totally hit me square in the heart. I found Transplanted Thoughts.

I don't know… Continue

The Many Faces of a Baby

I have been attempting to catch my son's elusive smile on camera for about 3 weeks now. However, each time his sweet little lips curl up, as soon as I click the button they go right into a sour puss . I've stuck to my guns and now I present for your viewing pleasure the cutest damn thing I've ever seen (and no I'm not biased!)

Unimpressed …

Fish Oild Versus Flax Seed

Fish Oil Versus Flax Seed Oil The health benefits of incorporating Omega-3 fatty acids into our diet is nothing new.  We have learned from other cultures that these fats are healthy.  Some of these cultures such as the Inuit in Greenland eat as much as 40% of their diets in fat.  However, these people have low rates of diabetes, heart disease and degenerative joint disease. The reason for this is their fatty diets are…

Exercise today seemed to make my InterStim act up a little!

My post

http://tawnasplan.blogspot.com/2011/01/jogging-stairs-and-plank-today.html

Today's work out consisted of 20 minutes of jogging in place, 6 times running up and down the stairs to the basement and my updated plank position 3 times. I had some issues with my InsterStim a few hours later with some muscle cramping and am now wondering if I maybe over did it a bit. I felt so…

Triggers in Women that Can Lead to a Mental Breakdown

Many years ago, I watched Alfred Hitchcock's The Wrong Man based on a true story about a man, Manny Balestrero, falsely accused of armed robbery in the early part of the 1950s. While the story in itself is terrifying to think about, what struck me and stays with me to this day is Manny's wife's reaction… Continue

Art Mom, second grade and Van Gogh's ear

If you're going to be an Art Mom for a group of second graders, and you sense you're losing their attention, don't try to be clever and mention Van Gogh's ear.

Just don't. Even if you feel you're doing it for the greater good. Because soon you will not be giving a presentation on art. You will be giving a presentation on ears.

Trust me. I spoke today at my son's classroom - finishing a program on color and mood that got cut short last week - and brought in a wide variety of art…

How do you escape life’s problems?

Yesterday, I threw my arms up in defeat. I surrendered. I caved. I gave up. I did the unthinkable – called a medical specialist. The connotation surrounding this call is “I’m a failure.” I could not rid my body of pain. I could not figure out the problem and fix it. Add this mindset to escalating PMS…

Appreciation, Rejuvenation: A Mommy Moment in AutismWonderland

You thank your child's team of therapists and teachers.  You profusely thank the person who offers their seat on the subway.  You thank the person who bags your groceries or pumps your gas.  You even thank your kids for eating  with no fuss or your baby for not squirming during a public bathroom Pamper change.  Your days are filled with thanks...for everyone else.

But when was the last time someone offered thanks for you?  Parents and caretakers are often forgotten, happily…

Parental Control Over The Remote

How do you control what your kids watch at night?

Make TV watching a public affair.

I'm a mom of two teens and two toddlers. My teens hardly watch tv at night. If they're lucky enough to have homework done by 8, they're too busy chatting with friends or trying to finish a good book before bed. If it's one of those rare nights when they're "free" and feeling like tv, their only option is venturing out of their room to join the family in the family…

Is Your Man Loyal Or A Cheater?

Whenever two people form a relationship, there are moments when one might believe the other is cheating on them. Save Money on Event Planning

Whether we like it or not, we will all at one point have to wear the event planning cap. Why is that? Because we are human, and along with our humanity come life celebrations: baby showers, weddings, graduations, anniversaries, retirements, funerals, and the list goes on and on. I'm sure that I don't…
