I shouldn't have taken that call... Mother's coming...

Confession time: I can report that facebook suicide never actually happened. Nor did my respite from the laptop, at least not to the degree that I’d considered. I blame The Son; I need to buy uniform, lunchboxes, name tapes. And that, my friends, is a blog post all of its own.

However, I can report that yesterday my facebook status read: ‘there is nothing that makes you…

Welcome to Mommyhood, Mommy!

Baybee Luv

As most of you know, I am a full-time college student trying to get my business degree. I take some of the classes online to allow me to work and take care of my daughter. One of the joys annoyances of online classes is timed exams. Normally, this is not bad because quizzes are generally shorter tests. Final exams are a lot more intense and being that the class I had online this semester was a legal class, there was a lot to know and a… Continue

Spicy Cucumber Salad

Last week I still had three seedless cucumbers in my crisper from the previous week's Bountiful Basket. I didn't want them to go to waste, so I…

A list of the sh*# my kids break [Alternate title: This is why we can’t have nice things]

Many years ago, I was helping my dad clean out some portion of his hoarding house when he picked-up a black trash bag and began carefully placing crystal goblets into the bottom of the bag. And I may, or may not, have said, “You shouldn’t have nice things.” O.K. this was a very true disrespectful thing to say, and I probably deserved a time out. I wish I hadn’t said that to my dad. I wish… Continue

Modeling Imperfection

Today one thing is on my mind. It’s about all of the unintentional modeling we do. The modeling of imperfection. The modeling of poor parenting. The modeling of rushed decisions.

2010-08-17 - Tuesday Thoughts - Modeling Imperfection

When I think about the parent I strive to be, it doesn’t usually include many flaws or mistakes. It’s a…

When Murphey's Law Failed

So in our quest to have the perfect weekend with a barbecue with the in laws....it didn't turn out that great...at least not for my husband. Well the barbecue turned out great thanks to my sister in Law and Her Husband who brought over their grill because ours would have exploded. (Read More)

My Story - From Flab to Fit and Cowardly to Confident

Recently, I was asked to submit my success story to another website and thought it would be a good one to share here as well. Throughout my life, I was always a relatively active person, but

after having two children, and approaching my late 30’s, I really lost

my motivation to workout and my metabolism went down the drain. I was

nearly 50 pounds overweight, unhealthy and very unhappy. I had horrible

insomnia…

An End of an Era

Today marks an end of an era...or the beginning of an era...depending if you are a “glass is half empty or have full” kind of person. Today, both of my children climbed on a school bus and for nine hours I will have total peace and quiet.… Continue

Where is that Emergency Deployment Shoot?

I have never understood why parenting isn’t in the “let-me-shit-on-you-service business” category. Certainly parents reach the end the their rope, put up with insults, rude behavior, monumental stress, disrespect, back talk, humiliation, a complete lack of appreciation for the non-stop hours that goes into parenting, constant demands, being taken for granted, as in “you’re the mom and I can treat you anyway I want. It’s not MY fault you had me.”

Parenting is a customer service… Continue

My Trade

As you might have noticed, I'm in to graphic design. I actually should have majored in it, but chose journalism instead. When I was working at the TV station I learned a ton about graphics. In college I also took web design and learned a lot about building and designing websites accompanied by my HTML for dummies book. I also have a CSS for dummies book and I truly must be a dummy because I could not figure it out. (Read… Continue

What's the Deal with Blogging?

As you can see, we Mabel gals take our blogging conferences VERY seriously!

Just back from BlogHer ’10 in New York City and quite frankly am feeling like I need a bit of a holiday. So much squealing and excitement on the first night left me with a nasty case of laryngitis. I spent the rest of the conference struggling to speak. But, you can imagine the energy of a conference with 2400 women bloggers all in one…

Out to Dinner

There are few things I dread more than packing up my kids and taking them out in public. They are cute kids, their unbiased Mother types, don't get my wrong. But they are 4, 2 and 1 and a diva, a whiner and a determined little cookie. And these kids are a lot of work at home, much less out where I have no barbed wire fences to keep them in.

Kidding. That would be mean.

So when my husband came home and, trying to ease my cooking burden,… Continue

Phthalates: What Are They and Are They Making You Sick?

Pronunciation: THAL-ates
