A Milestone But Not My Goal

I got on the scale this morning, looked down and couldn't believe my eyes. 100 pounds, exactly. It's major I know. Losing 100 pounds is amazing and in 5 months no less. But, what's even more amazing is that I realized this is just one more loss. I'm not done. I can celebrate this achievement, and I will—in fact, I just got done texting with a coworker/friend of mine who promised me an outfit when I got to 100—but as I told my god-mother this morning when she asked me how we should celebrate,…

I breastfed to keep asthma at bay...so why is my daughter being tested for it?

Just over 10 years ago, I lost a dear friend, Dexter, to asthma. He was a married father of two small children who were present when he died from the disease during one of the hottest days in Toledo. He couldn’t find one of his many inhalers in time to thwart off the attack. This is the reason I ask my husband to carry an inhaler wherever he goes even though his asthma is under control. For years, Dexter’s…

Blogging. Oh Why Do I Bother?

Today I woke up in a bit of an icky mood. Aside from the fact that I rose at 5:30 (not willingly) my freshly bathed dog rolled in crap and two giant zits had sprung up like weeds on my face sometime during the night. Fantastic. I thought people my age weren't supposed to get zits anymore.

With my less than wonderful disposition this morning came the question I ask myself once in a while "Why? Why? Why do I write this blog?" It started as a… Continue

Jon & Kate Plus 8 Drama - My Thoughts and Yours

from my post on Mom Spark, see here...

I have been undecided for a while about whether or not to discuss the whole drama with Jon & Kate Plus 8. Part of this hesitation was due to feeling a little silly for caring so much, but after seeing hundreds of tweets on Twitter regarding this issue, I no longer felt silly. If you do not care about this subject, please skip on by to another… Continue

How to Save Money on a Saturday - Coupons and Church Sales

Today was a great day, and even better — a frugal day. We got up after 9 a.m. (somehow Landon seems to know that it’s the weekend, during the week he gets up around 7:30 a.m. I needed that sleep, I had been up until 2 a.m. again blogging!) and ate a healthy breakfast. I made oatmeal because Landon asked for it (ot meow). I spend a little time on my computer marketing my blog (Twitter and Facebook updates, an e-mail to my friends) and got ready to head out. I wanted to check out the rummage sale… Continue

A Countdown of Myths About Teen Depression

MYTH # 10:

Teenagers don’t become clinically depressed. They’re moody because of surging hormones.

Signs of true, or clinical, depression include:

Frequent or out of the ordinary crying or tearfulness.

Excessive sense of guilt or unworthiness.

A loss… Continue
