Book Review: Unscrambled Eggs By Nadia Brown

This is a GREAT book of poems about life, suffering, purpose, desires, freedom, and how to search dreams.  It is a book that will keep the reader reading. And after finishing the book, the reader will feel nourished and inspired to be more than just…

Book Review: Becoming: The Life & Musings of a Girl Poet, by Nadia Janice Brown

I thoroughly enjoyed this collection of poems by Nadia Janice Brown. They are spiritual, inspirational and full of ‘writer’ sensibility, which I love. The tone is ‘quiet,’ making this little collection perfect for your night table, to be read before bedtime.

Brown’s pen touches upon various subjects: God, the Genesis,…

RACISM: MY PERSONAL EXPERIENCES

I do not like spending too much time wallowing in things I have zero control over. Today I found myself knee deep in thoughts about a topic that sends chills up and down my spine. It is not my favorite topic, but after reading Carolyn Meyer’s book White Lilacs and an article about Darrel Brown, I felt compelled to write about my least favorite topic: Racism.

Reading Meyer’s book and the article about Darrel Brown forced me to think about my own experiences with racism. I…

The Trouble with Chris Brown: A Lesson for My Son

There is something troubling me. Last week the media was agog with R&B star Chris Brown's latest outburst. For those of you who don't follow pop culture, Chris Brown is the R&B singer/dancer who notoriously beat up his then-girlfriend pop star Rhianna two years…

Sister Wives ~ Mom Blog ~

I am not a big TV buff, but every once in a while a show will grab my attention and I get a little hooked. In this case, the show Sister Wives on TLC has done exactly that. I am not sure what it is about this show that has drawn me in unless it has something to do with the religion vs. law aspect of it. I think one thing that intrigues me most is that this family is willing to risk the dad, Kody Brown, going to prison in order to speak… Continue

Tome of the Mommy: The Fighting of the Tree

For some of us, holiday rituals are our happiest memories. For others, they are the flint that sparks our greatest fears.

Perhaps memories of unhappy holidays past haunt us. Or maybe we stress out at the pressure to project "happiness" during this time of year.

If something truly important is bothering us, faking some form of cheeriness isn't going to keep us from gnashing our teeth when another ornament falls and shatters,… Continue

Tome of the Mommy: Romance (writing) in the Bedroom

Writing is in the blood, as well as the heart and the mind. J.K. Rowling may be the most famous (and most successful of us, but many of the writers I know are are women who, like me, have families and all the complexities that implies, but still find the time to slip out a book or two (or more!) of erotic romance a year. This… Continue
