That's why I've made it my mission to try to teach my kids to help out people in need. And one of my favorite holiday traditions for our family is to help fulfill the Christmas wish list of a child in need.
For the past…Continue

** The time change is making me think I'm late to everything. (O.k., so later than usual).
** My town has already put up its Christmas decorations. So we can now eat our Halloween candy under the mistletoe.
** After a thorough cleaning of my daughter's room, turns out there isn't a dead body in there after all.
I'm kicking off the fall season with an exciting announcement for my children's picture book, The Doll Violinist. Through my publisher, Guardian Angel Publishing The Doll Violinist is now available in iTunes for iBooks. Enhanced with real aloud sound, The Doll…Continue

Late last summer, I wrote a blog, Rooster Envy, in which I described my general love for all things chicken and about a beautiful eight foot rooster I had found in Amarillo, TX. With four months to go until my birthday and Christmas, I…Continue

** Once again, I have no desire to go out and get all crazy on New Year's Eve. (I'd rather do it the night BEFORE New Year's Eve.)
** Christmas cookies seriously kicked my ass this year.
** Trying to write with a house full of people is like trying to have sex with a house full of people (uh....not that I would know or…Continue

This year, Christmas was good. Not 'first cup of coffee in the morning' good (which you all know is REALLY good), but 'came home from work to a spotless house, dinner already made, the kids already bathed, with cheesecake and moscato' good. Seriously...
In my last post, I covered how my kids' dad was able to come home for Christmas. Complete surprise to the kids, they haven't seen him in 10 months, and I've been contemplating sharing the video with the world (but I'm one of those…

Remember that story a few weeks ago when we lost the mother fucking Elf on the Shelf, and I was all panicked that it might be the last Christmas for believing in Santa in my household? Well, it saddens me beyond words, but I'm pretty sure the jig is up (at…Continue

My family has this HUGE Christmas Eve tradition. We get together at my moms house for a Christmas glutton feast! That's the only time I get my mom's famous pot roast (a favorite). The schedule's changed a bit over the years but it consists of church, family photos and tons and tons of food. This year was going to be a big one since all the babies were going to be there (sister's 2 boys, cousin's 2 girls, cousin's 1 boy, cousin's boy and girl). We were the only ones not able to make…

I read an article this week titled "Christmas belongs to the poor" by Jeff Goins. One of the parts that really stood out for me ironically was from an old Frasier rerun he caught on TV. On that episode Frasier forgot his wallet and several homeless people joined together to pay for his bill. One of the men shared with him the true spirit of Christmas. He said,“The rest of the year belongs…Continue

** These people are driving me nuts. And by people, I mean my family.
** Holiday shoppers are complete assholes.
** My to-do list is evidently not gonna write itself.
** It's also not going to do itself either.
** Cleaning is clearly a complete waste of my time.
** There's something pretty freaking…Continue

Twas the night before Christmas, when all through our pad,
Every creature was stirring, being exceptionally bad.
The stockings were hung too close to the floor,
And Goatdog was eating each one that he tore.
The twins were bouncing off the walls in their…Continue

Christmas is forever, not for just one day,
for loving, sharing, giving, are not to put away
like bells and lights and tinsel, in some box upon a shelf.
The good you do for others is good you do yourself…
