Tips to Prevent Getting an Infectious Disease While on Vacation

Dr. Brent W. Laartz thought he was in for the ride of his lifetime when he set out on a horseback riding excursion in Costa Rica.

Admittedly younger and more naïve than he is today, Laartz – an infectious disease specialist and author of the book How to Avoid Contagious Diseases…

Tis the Season

During this Christmas Season I want to encourage you to remember the true reason for the season.  Too often we get caught up with Black Friday shopping, Cyber Monday, and all the holiday parties and events we attend that we don’t relish in the true reason for the season.

Jesus is the reason for the season!  As you shop, eat, mingle, remember we are celebrating Christ’s birth and as we celebrate and remember Christ birth, we should also be reflective of his second…

Ho Ho No!

Santa-chimney_thumb   I’m probably in the minority with my opinion about today’s topic.  The older I get, the more I feel that trying to get kids to believe in Santa Claus is a waste of time.

Let me explain why I feel this way.  I’m always telling my son to tell me the truth, even if he thinks it’s bad.  So, why should I as his parent harp on this…

'Twas the Nucking Futty Night Before Christmas

Some of you may remember this post from a few years ago, and some of you may be reading it for the first time.  Whatever the case, it was my own nucking futty spin on the classic tale of "The Night Before Christmas".  If your holidays are anything like mine, you'll appreciate the recounting of a Christmas Eve that's not exactly what you might call picture-perfect.…

Doggone Elf...

I like to consider myself a creative person.  But a certain topic that occurs at this time of year always renders me stupid.

Our elf, Marty, first joined us in 2011.  This was the first year that the Elf On A Shelf really became a widely known phenomenon.  The elves were intended to cause all kinds of mischief around the house.  I intended for our elf to be somewhat of a classroom monitor who would report back to Santa any notable behavior.  Our elf didn’t only appear at Christmas…

HOLY Berries!!!

I originally posted this a few years ago, but it's definitely one that I like to pull out of the vault again at holiday time.  Cause it's about liquor.  And who DOESN'T need a cup of cheerful something or other at this time of the year??!!
