I'm a Holiday person - love this time of year

I LOVE the Holiday season and I'll only be able to hold off one more week before I start playing my Holiday music (I know some people still think it is too early!).

My son is my Christmas baby (born just after Christmas) and both of us believe in making this blessed and joyful season as looong as possible :)

One of the things I like to do during this Holiday period is to add promotions and new avenues to my small business to help me earn extra…

Who put the Ma in Glamazon? Not me!

It’s late at night and I’m doing double duty as usual, the multi-tasker that I am. I’m in the shower bathing myself while also scrubbing the tub clean. Fun? Not. But hey, someone has to do it.

It’s as I step out of the shower and catch a glimpse of myself in the mirror…

Small Christmas Gift Ideas for Neighbors

We’re gaining some great momentum with our Christmas in July celebration here on Tip Junkie. One of my favorite things to make are unique Neighbor gifts for Christmas. I have a lot of fabulous people I adore, so it's got to be a small and cheap Christmas gift that I think my neighbors will enjoy.

Here are several creative gift ideas as well as some tried and true ones that are great fall backs in a pinch. Be sure to tell these creative Ladies that… Continue

Column--Jan. 18

Dear friends and family,

Happy holidays new year! We hope this letter finds you and yours in good health and good spirits (except you, Uncle Ed — you had enough “good spirits” for all of us at our New Year’s Eve party, and your drunken striptease to the theme from “The Love Boat” won’t soon be forgiven).

We are so thankful for the many blessings bestowed upon us this year, chief among them the arrival of our new daughter, Asha, and the continued growth of our son,… Continue

O Christmas Tree?

I have a mild case of OCD which doesn't bother me too much, but in the case of things like decorating the Christmas tree, can be a little annoying. Decorating the tree for me it isn't just about placing items where they look the best, it is also about having them feel right. I know, it sounds crazy, but there is an actual physical discomfort when things aren't 'just so'.

This year I decided to just enjoy decorating the tree with my girls and to just let go of my need to decorate to… Continue

A Christmas Carol the movie — creepy

So with relatives in town, I decided to take all the older kids to see Disney’s Christmas Carol. The kids were very excited and so was I. After sitting through the previews and passing out the treats from Halloween, every child was ready, trader jo bbq chips in one cup holder and a bottle of water in the other. The first scene was apparently Marley’s dead body in a coffin. His mouth was hanging open, very realistic. The kids all covered their faces and gasped. We continued to watch, but by the… Continue

Rethinking Traditions to Save the Pocketbook

I'm in sticker shock...over Christmas cards.

It isn't that Christmas cards in and of themselves are necessarily expensive. I was pleased to get forty of them on-sale at my local grocery store, when I found myself stuck at the auto mechanic's shop much longer than anticipated and walked to the grocery store for something to do. I had the cards signed and… Continue

Why I Am Grateful This Thanksgiving

There's a reason why they call it the Christmas Spectacular. It truly is spectacular to see the Rockettes perform at Radio City, New York City. My biz partner, Terry, and I were invited with our families to meet and mingle with the Rockettes and Santa, of course. The show promises to dazzle (my six year old particularly loved the sparkley leotards and high kicks) and entertain (our boys loved the 3-D movie, feeling as if snowballs were being thrown their way). Did you know that many of the… Continue
