How Do You Speak About Your Spouse

This post is to encourage you married couples to only speak well of your spouse.  Most people would think that is common knowledge but I am amazed at how many times I am with strangers and people I know and they speak badly of their spouse.  I know there are the extreme people who are unhappily married and speak horribly of their spouse all the time; I’m not talking about them.  I am talking about people who I know to have a good relationship with their spouse and yet they well say…

Trunk or Treat

Have you heard of Trunk or Treat?  This is often an event sponsored by a church or community group as an alternative to Trick or Treating.  A group of people gather typically in a parking lot, they decorate the trunks of their vehicles and instead of going door to door for candy and treats the kids go trunk to trunk.  As a host of a trunk you can pass out candy, prizes, have games like bobbing for apples, fishing for small toys, bean bag toss, ring toss, etc.…

Clergy Appreciation Month

Clergy Appreciation Month is celebrated in October, and the 2nd Sunday in the Month of October is designated as Clergy Appreciation Day.

Make time to honor the clergy in your life, not only on this day or month but all year long.  I am grateful for national days and months because they get…

When Your Child Hits or is Hit by Another Child

With three boys I am daily reminding them to keep their hands and feet to themselves.  They like to wrestle, jump on each other and someone daily seems to be making unwanted contact with the other.

This past week my youngest son who is three hit another child in his class.  Now if it was one of the children in the class that is always hitting the other children I probably wouldn’t have given it much thought, not that it is okay to hit for any reason.  But he hit a child who I know…

My Picky Eater

I have three boys, one is extremely picky, one is a little picky and one eats everything.  My extremely picky eater was a good eater when he was a baby; he became picky when he was around two years old.  There are a number of factors that come into play with his pickiness, I know I ultimately enabled him and at times I feel like a horrible mom for this.  I hate that he’s not getting a balanced diet.  I hate that he doesn’t enjoy himself as much when it comes to meal time when visiting…

Children and Honesty

As parents we desire for our children to be honest, not cheat, lie, or steal.  I recently had a conversation with my seven year old about lying.  He likes to say things to his brothers and then say “I was only joking”.  Also this past week, someone threw a pillow at the three year old, who was knocked over and crying and when I asked who threw the pillow, the two older children did not want to own up to…

Bedtime Routine

Bedtime routines are important and also special.  I know as a parent there are some nights that are not as easy as other nights.  I try and remind myself before I know it they won’t want me to tuck them in bed and read them that same story book we have read 10,000 times.  There are those nights when I am tired and don’t want to do anything, I would like just to sit and relax.  As I watch my boys, I'm reminded they are growing so fast and won't always need me to pick out their pajamas and…

My Fourth of July Festivities

Last Wednesday I went on a sort of mini Blog Vacation. I answered important emails, but a friend of mine came up from the valley to spend four days with us to get out of the heat of Phoenix. She loves my little babies as if they were her own and it was fun to have some time away from the bump and grind and enjoy the city I live in!

So its time to share on our adventures.…

WTH, ABC Family??!!

My kids have always LOVED commercials.  Maybe it's because their dad works in advertising, or maybe it's because, unlike me, they never ever get tired of hearing the "Flipeez" theme song that seems to play on repeat between shows.  Whatever the case, when an ad pops up on the screen, my twins are completely riveted.  So when a totally inappropriate commercial was shown during a KID movie on…

5 Things My Italian Parents Taught Me About Food

2013-04-15-LisaLori.jpg

My parents doing what they loved most, cooking a good meal.

Like many adult children, the older I get, the more time I spend reflecting on my parents' life and the many traditions they passed along to me and my siblings. Raised in Chicago, my parents were Italian-Americans who grew up with the same traditions that have been passed down in…

Thankful Thursday: Growing Independence

I cannot be the only one…who has noticed their child has started to show signs of real independence; whether buttoning up their own shirt or washing their own hair in the tub, the small things that can be done without Mama, are being done without her.

This realization came to me the other day as I was attempting to complete a set of sit-ups (attempting is the key word there) while the Sonny Boy was scrubbing away in the shower unassisted. …

PARENTAL ADVISORY: I AM the explicit content!

I remember my first curse word. We were riding in the car with my parents when suddenly; my father called my brother a little bastard. It happened at a time that I was going through my repeat everything someone else says until they snap phase. "Yeah, ya little…

Boy that Santa sure does hold a grudge! - @sassypiehole | You've been warned! http://bit.ly/1983Yi5

Santa and I have always had sort of a love-hate relationship. I love the fact that he brings me a delightful gift each year, I hate the fact that I'm the one doing all the work. Word to the wise; if you ever DO end up on his naughty list, that's when you need…

Celebrate each child-Every child is special, unique and extraordinary

I come from a home where ‘ I ‘ was celebrated, ‘I’ was made to feel important and ‘I’ was special. I had a wonderful childhood not because of the things I had but because of the way I was made to feel.

God created each child to be a wonderful unique individual. My oldest is spirited and he loves all the attention he could possibly have. He loves to play with automobiles and planes. My second is calm (now moving on from there) and independent. He loves to play with pots and pans. My…

Navigating the Family Court System

So this weekend I went to a friend's baby shower. I met a lovely couple who is three years into dealing with a custody battle. They said the were hopeful that they would be done with it soon. It was nice to talk to people who had a VERY similar story to my own. Boy, I didn't have to look too far.

When I am through with all of the legalities I will be blogging in detail about my experience. I don't want other mothers to have to go through what me and this other couple have gone…
