My Fourth of July Festivities

Last Wednesday I went on a sort of mini Blog Vacation. I answered important emails, but a friend of mine came up from the valley to spend four days with us to get out of the heat of Phoenix. She loves my little babies as if they were her own and it was fun to have some time away from the bump and grind and enjoy the city I live in!

So its time to share on our adventures.…

Three Things to Consider Before Buying Your Kid a Smartphone

Do you think your kid is ready to own a smartphone? With technology playing a more important role in our lives, the issue is likely to come up at some point. This…

WTH, ABC Family??!!

My kids have always LOVED commercials.  Maybe it's because their dad works in advertising, or maybe it's because, unlike me, they never ever get tired of hearing the "Flipeez" theme song that seems to play on repeat between shows.  Whatever the case, when an ad pops up on the screen, my twins are completely riveted.  So when a totally inappropriate commercial was shown during a KID movie on…

5 Things My Italian Parents Taught Me About Food

2013-04-15-LisaLori.jpg

My parents doing what they loved most, cooking a good meal.

Like many adult children, the older I get, the more time I spend reflecting on my parents' life and the many traditions they passed along to me and my siblings. Raised in Chicago, my parents were Italian-Americans who grew up with the same traditions that have been passed down in…

Thankful Thursday: Growing Independence

I cannot be the only one…who has noticed their child has started to show signs of real independence; whether buttoning up their own shirt or washing their own hair in the tub, the small things that can be done without Mama, are being done without her.

This realization came to me the other day as I was attempting to complete a set of sit-ups (attempting is the key word there) while the Sonny Boy was scrubbing away in the shower unassisted. …

Childbirth: The Second One

If you've read Childbirth: The First One, you'll see I left a bit of a gap between my first and second child.  My son is now 16 years old, 6'2'', size…

Childbirth: The First One

Now that I'm in my third pregnancy, I've spent a lot of time thinking about the birth of my son and daughter.  We reflect, and we learn in the hope the next experience will build on what has gone before. Continue reading here

PARENTAL ADVISORY: I AM the explicit content!

Picture
I remember my first curse word. We were riding in the car with my parents when suddenly; my father called my brother a little bastard. It happened at a time that I was going through my repeat everything someone else says until they snap phase. "Yeah, ya little…

Boy that Santa sure does hold a grudge! - @sassypiehole | You've been warned! http://bit.ly/1983Yi5

Picture
Santa and I have always had sort of a love-hate relationship. I love the fact that he brings me a delightful gift each year, I hate the fact that I'm the one doing all the work. Word to the wise; if you ever DO end up on his naughty list, that's when you need…

Celebrate each child-Every child is special, unique and extraordinary

I come from a home where ‘ I ‘ was celebrated, ‘I’ was made to feel important and ‘I’ was special. I had a wonderful childhood not because of the things I had but because of the way I was made to feel.

God created each child to be a wonderful unique individual. My oldest is spirited and he loves all the attention he could possibly have. He loves to play with automobiles and planes. My second is calm (now moving on from there) and independent. He loves to play with pots and pans. My…

Navigating the Family Court System

So this weekend I went to a friend's baby shower. I met a lovely couple who is three years into dealing with a custody battle. They said the were hopeful that they would be done with it soon. It was nice to talk to people who had a VERY similar story to my own. Boy, I didn't have to look too far.

When I am through with all of the legalities I will be blogging in detail about my experience. I don't want other mothers to have to go through what me and this other couple have gone…

Melt Downs of the Fourth Kind

What IS A Meltdown?

“A meltdown is a tantrum, reports MSNBC, plain and simple: “Depending upon your child’s personality, nature, and style of communicating the outburst can range from simple whining, crying and fussing to a full-fledged fall-to-the-floor, head-banging-free-for-all.…

DNA, Genetics and Half-Siblings are all we have to put the Puzzle Pieces together!

Finding half-siblings for my kids has been very important for me, in truth it is why I started blogging, in almost every post I would put our donors number (BGM 9581 by the way) and it is why I joined the DSR (Donor Sibling Registry) before my first was even born.  I feel I have been lucky enough to find two half-sibs. One on the DSR, and one because of my blog.  I know that there are at least 25 reported births as of earlier this year, but…

Blessed With Teenage Woes

I fell asleep on the sofa watching the final miles of the Tour de France.

I was awakened by screaming soccer fans and rap music blasting on my son’s cell phone.  I didn’t scold him like I usually do when he wakes me up with his inconsiderate, noisy movements.

Instead,  I simply looked at him in bewilderment, wondering why had he turned on every light downstairs.

I did not yell because I was filled with a renewed sense…

Amazing Family Time!

I would have to say that the months of the year, that bring the flowers and green back out into the open are my favorite simply because they allow for amazing family time! Because we live in the Mid-west and experience winter month with ice, snow, and cold, it is difficult getting out to do winter activities. Sadly most of that reasoning is due to me not liking cold or being cold! LOL! So I try to let go of my “hermit” ways during the nicer weather and venture out of the house with the…

This Momma Needs A Massage! & Group Giveaway!

After the last few days, this momma needs a massage! LOL! I can't believe how quickly this week has zipped by, any more than I can believe that we are almost through June and July is just around the corner. Of course, when the week keeps you busy, it is no wonder that it has flown by. I still find it funny that even after five months, I still have not managed to establish a routine with my days, which before long will make me absolutely crazy! Though I spent so many years living by the work…

How I Met My Hubby...

How I met my hubby...He and I absolutely love getting asked that question. Simply due to the odd looks that people tend to give us when they hear the story. It never really gets old, even after all of these years! But of course, it is a rather peculiar story. Well it all started right about twenty nine years ago, I was right around eleven years old. My dad was getting married to wife number four. I think that I had only talked to my new step-mom once before they got married. I actually think…

Protecting Our Kids *W/ Update

Yesterday I was offered the opportunity to guest post over the The Wondering Brain with the wonderful Jessica Dy. I have included a bit of an update from the original, marked by an asterisk below.

Protecting our kids is a full-time job in today's society, with threats around every corner. As the mother of three, ranging in ages from 10 to 19, I know that the internet is a huge draw for kids nowadays. My kids, like most, know almost all there is to know about online technology. There…

Books...An Unimaginable Adventure!

Post originally shared as a guest post at The Wondering Brain

Books provide access to an unimaginable adventure. One of my favorite hobbies has always been reading, for as far back as I can remember. As a kid, I spent a lot of time with my grandma, and every week during summer break we would ride our local city bus to our local public library. I would of course make a bee line to the children's section to select my books. I had…

What Is A Blessing?

What is a blessing? Wow, what a loaded question, right? It amazes me to think of the things in my life that I consider to be a blessing. I am sure that it is a list that could vary slightly from some and majorly for others. I have really only even started thinking about and realizing just what I have to be blessed about, in the last maybe ten years. I am not sure if it is something that most kids even consider, and I think if you had asked me at any point during my teen years what blessings…
