Power of the Pen!

Some people would say that the cost of silence is free. Those people are not mothers. There is always a cost. Like when your toddler is having a full on tantrum during the 2nd hour of a 14 hour trip so you give him the remaining ½ of a chocolate bar knowing full well that it will leave the worst mess on him, the car seat, the car, etc. but your sanity and that of your husbands is well worth the mess.  Or maybe you plopped junior in front of the TV…

Things I've Learned This Week

** Shoveling snow by hand should be followed by a massage.  And possibly a lobotomy.

** The past several days have been like tantric sex.  Minus the sex part.

** If I ever need a good giggle, I turn to …

Things I've Learned This Week

Adventures in Sweets and Cross Training

Last week wasn't a great eating week for me. I still continued eat pretty healthy meals for the most part, but between meals I digressed quite a bit. Monday our neighbors came by with Girl Scout cookies and we were not going to turn them down. They are great neighbors, so we bought 4 boxes. Since I am at work more than I am at home, fortunately I haven't taken too big of a calorie hit because of this.

Tuesday was Valentine's Day, and our truly awesome office manager baked us…

Things I've Learned This Week

** A lovely Valentine's morning can quickly turn to a red and pink poop storm when you're a parent.

** If the smell of your own morning breath is making you gag, you know it's time to brush those pearly whites.

** I always seem to park in the spot where some lazy jackhole has left his unreturned shopping cart.

** Cookie bouquets…

Bumping Elbows with Gwen Stefani at American Girl Place

Ben had a conference in Chicago this past weekend. The conference ran both days, so we all drove down with him on Sunday so that the girls and I could spend the day shopping [and going to the public restroom every half-hour]. Whereas Ben spent the day sitting in a lecture hall taking notes on building Drupal modules for six hours. Sounds sexy doesn’t it?

On our list of ‘Places to Fritter Away Our Money’ was the American Girl Place… Continue

Poison Ivy Gratitude

On Mother’s Day, Owen ran a fever of 101.8 so I kept him out of

school on Monday. He recovered quickly, only to learn the age-old,

hard-knock lesson discovered by countless generations of six-year-old

boys before him: Poison ivy is friend to no grade schooler.

Endlessly red, puffy and itchy, he stayed home with me again on Friday.

Like many moms, when my child hurts, my maternal instincts heighten and unfailingly force me into slight panic mode.…

Birthday Parties- Why Not Make Some Fun at Home?

Birthday parties have changed significantly since I was a child. It used to be that a few friends came over, everyone played and the highlight was cake and opening presents. Today on the other hand birthday parties have turned into major events. Parties have to be planned weeks in advance in order to secure a venue and invitations need to be sent out weeks in advance in the hopes that people are still available come your party date. Not only have the parties gotten more extravagant but so have… Continue

The Truth About OCD...Obsessive Compulsive Disorder

It can be quite challenging when your child does things that seem a little different or odd. Very often it is hard for a parent to diagnose a child's behavior. Often a parent will notice behaviors in a child that are different or challenging for your child yet your child's pediatrician isn't with your child for a long enough time to diagnose a situation. It is also common for a parent to hide information from a pediatrician in hopes that the situation is temporary or will go… Continue

MOMpreneur Perks - Night Out!

When Beth Feldman of http://www.rolemommy.com/ sent me an evite for a "GIRLS NIGHT IN", I quickly clicked on "view invite" and read the details. This is what part of the invite said:

At our debut event, it'll be all about relaxation with complimentary massages, manicures, drinks and appetizers.

As soon as I saw the words "complimentary massages" I was in. I didn't care who I had to track down to babysit the kids! I was a shoe in! I was not going to miss my… Continue
