Bible Verses to Help Overcome Emptiness and Feelings of Loneliness

Being a christian is not easy and sometimes we face trying times

where we might feel that God has left us, or that we have strayed to far away to be bought back. Spiritually we may feel lost and in need of guidance so that we may be bought back to a peaceful state of mind.

I was once in…

Elijah and the Ninja Skills

Around Lape Haven, we kind of love silly. We thrive on imagination and creativity. We choose birthday party themes based on how costume-friendly they are. (We really do.)

But I have to say, sometimes, I am still amazed at how quirky my kids can be. They provide me with hours of…

Write 31 Days - Day 4: Elijah and the Belly

This past year has brought a number of new babies to our family and close friends, so every few months, our boys were hearing about another baby being born. Either they were seeing those adorable newborn pictures in my Facebook feed, watching Mommy edit newborn pictures from the two sessions…

Watch What You Say

One thing that really irritates me this time of year is the phrase "Happy Holidays." Especially when I am out Christmas shopping and it's obvious that we are Christmas shopping.

What this phrase has done is taken Christ out of Christmas. Its as bad as X-mas to me. I get that no one wants to offend anyone, but who then are you offending…

Accepting When I Have no Control

Keeping my head up when things are rough is hard. I will admit I had a pity party last night, but today I will keep my head up and accept that sometimes things are out of my control. Sometimes no matter how hard I work at something or how much effort I put forth things may not work out in my favor.

Two weeks ago I turned in a resume and letter for promotion to Detective Lieutenant. I have been a Detective since 2008 with a 1 year leave of absence. I also have a degree and 2 years of… Continue

Appreciating the Aha

I've always believed that everything happens for a reason.  And though we often don't ever know the reason, sometimes, we get lucky enough to find out just why things happen the way that they do.  I LOVE those little "aha" moments.  They help to restore my faith and to reassure me that something greater IS actually in…

Heaven Really is for Real!

What I needed as a side companion reading Heaven is for Real while commuting to and from work was a box of Kleenex. I cried like a child reading many sections of this book.

For two years I planned to read this book, but I just got around to it now. And boy am I glad I did. This is just the spiritual inspiration I need in my life at this very moment.

This true story about Colton Burpo’s visit to heaven and his encounter with Jesus Christ happened when he almost died of a…

Single Mother's Day

View post on SingleMomStyle.com

Even though I’m a mother myself, I’ve always knows Mother’s Day to be focused around my mother and typically include the four F’s of Mother’s Day: faith, family, food and flowers. This Mother’s Day, however, will be a little different. My mom is on vacation and living up her retirement, rightfully so, but she won’t be around for actual Mother’s Day. My brother and I…

The Liberal Catholic: Part II

View post on SingleMomStyle.com

If you’ve read The Liberal Catholic: Part I, you’ll know that I’m on a search for a new religion. I began my search the same place as I do any other search: Google, of course. I did several searches pertaining to liberal religions and came…

The Liberal Catholic: Part I

View post on SingleMomStyle.com

When I first started blogging, I did a search for do’s and don’ts. It was advised not to take any religious or political stands. However, I’m not a single parent expert or anything—I just blog about my life as a single parent. And I feel that some topics certainly affect me as a parent so sorry blogging advisers. I also want to make clear that I respect all…

These four words uttered by the Princess created such a surge of emotions in me that I decided to abandon my morning plans for today to pen down my thoughts here. Read the rest of the entry at…

What No Mommy Should Have to Face - A Prayer for You

This is a very difficult post for me to write. But I am hoping that if any of my readers is facing a similar situation, you will know that you are not alone. My heart goes out to you. 25 years ago today, I received a phone call at work that would forever change my life.

This day started a four day ordeal of doctors, nurses, specialists......and tears. Buckets upon buckets of tears. My almost 11 month old baby boy was gone, one week before what would have been…

Tubes & Teething: Someone up there has quite a sense of humor...

You will all be happy to here that I did not jump on the gurney when they wheeled my son off to surgery on Friday.  Actually, I barely had time to shed a tear, or read the first page of my People magazine before they were back with a crying, maniac in my arms.  The procedure went great, however, my little man is not a big fan of waking up from anesthesia with a bunch…
