What I needed as a side companion reading Heaven is for Real while commuting to and from work was a box of Kleenex. I cried like a child reading many sections of this book.
For two years I planned to read this book, but I just got around to it now. And boy am I glad I did. This is just the spiritual inspiration I need in my life at this very moment.
This true story about Colton Burpo’s visit to heaven and his encounter with Jesus Christ happened when he almost died of a…Continue
Even though I’m a mother myself, I’ve always knows Mother’s Day to be focused around my mother and typically include the four F’s of Mother’s Day: faith, family, food and flowers. This Mother’s Day, however, will be a little different. My mom is on vacation and living up her retirement, rightfully so, but she won’t be around for actual Mother’s Day. My brother and I…Continue

If you’ve read The Liberal Catholic: Part I, you’ll know that I’m on a search for a new religion. I began my search the same place as I do any other search: Google, of course. I did several searches pertaining to liberal religions and came…Continue

When I first started blogging, I did a search for do’s and don’ts. It was advised not to take any religious or political stands. However, I’m not a single parent expert or anything—I just blog about my life as a single parent. And I feel that some topics certainly affect me as a parent so sorry blogging advisers. I also want to make clear that I respect all…Continue

These four words uttered by the Princess created such a surge of emotions in me that I decided to abandon my morning plans for today to pen down my thoughts here. Read the rest of the entry at…Continue
This is a very difficult post for me to write. But I am hoping that if any of my readers is facing a similar situation, you will know that you are not alone. My heart goes out to you. 25 years ago today, I received a phone call at work that would forever change my life.
This day started a four day ordeal of doctors, nurses, specialists......and tears. Buckets upon buckets of tears. My almost 11 month old baby boy was gone, one week before what would have been…

You will all be happy to here that I did not jump on the gurney when they wheeled my son off to surgery on Friday. Actually, I barely had time to shed a tear, or read the first page of my People magazine before they were back with a crying, maniac in my arms. The procedure went great, however, my little man is not a big fan of waking up from anesthesia with a bunch…Continue

I was reading "All Things Bright & Beautiful" by Herriot while putting Henry to bed tonight and got to the part about this being the best time in your life and you don't realize it. When your children are young and all the wonderful
discoveries and pure joy that can be found amidst the sleep deprivation, revolving diaper changes and temper tantrums.
I just HAD to hug Henry then and I said, "Thank you God for my son" and absolutely, whole-heartedly meant it right then. Henry…Continue

This evening the lyrics to "So Amazing" by Luther Vandross are playing in my head and I have this overwhelming sense of purpose. I feel like I am finally walking into my destiny. I am finally using the gift that God gave me and I can't really explain how extremely grateful I feel right now. I am grateful that God allowed me to live long enough to accept the gift that he gave me and to really begin to use it.
Just a couple of weeks ago, I was telling a friend that I needed to…Continue

There have been countless times during my parenting experience where I think we should really make religion more of a focus in our family. Now, don't get me wrong -- I, by no means, am a Bible beater; nor is my husband. However, little inquiring minds wanna know just who this "God" dude actually is and why so many people are always talking about him.

Obviously, I love my kids with every little fiber of my being, but I swear to, well......you, actually, that they're involved in some sort of conspiracy theory to drive me straight to the loony bin. Seriously, if I didn't know any better, I'd think they'd bought stock in Crazy Town, which is clearly where I'll be residing soon enough. Any potential…Continue

Lately I’ve been down and out with so much going on in my life it has dampen my spirits. I’m human and I can be honest and say sometimes I dont want to think about the positive side of things. There are times where crying and throwing myself a short pity party works for me.
You know the times where you feel like no one understands or cares or seem less than supportive. I found myself crying my eyes out today, it just felt like I had the weight of the world on my shoulders. I listen…Continue

Congratulations, you’re married.
You’re about to enjoy a honeymoon but it won’t be long before the warm, fuzzy fairy-dust of lovey-dovey grossness will settle and you’ll clearly see the relationship you’ve entered.
You’ll bicker over someone’s driving, limited closet space, and hangers.

This post is dedicated to Geneva and Lauren and both of their mommies that astound me with their strength and their faith every single day.
This week I've been thinking about God and His sovereignty and His justice, and why things happen why they happen. Because, honestly, a lot of it just doesn't seem fair. Things like innocent people dying in riots in London, hungry and forgotten children in Somalia, and incurable diagnoses for children.
Why does He allow…Continue

I grew up the opposite of Stacey (Or insert cute blogging pseudonym). My family is extremely religious. My Parents started out as Baptists and swapped over to non-denominational Christians. Don’t confuse non-denominational with non-religious though. We went to church every Sunday and then some. My parents were deacons and treasurers and bulletin writers and other assorted volunteer positions. My parents were Gideons and all that that entails. I went to Sunday School until I taught it. I went…Continue
