Why Our Child Goes to Public School

Monday when I dropped Elijah off at school, I noticed the message on the school marquee sign about kindergarten registration. I can hardly believe that it’s been almost a year since that same announcement made my heart sad.

Last year at this time, Brad and I…

Our Vision Verse for Our Children

Several years ago, I began leading the children’s ministry at the church where my hubby and I attended at the time. We were in a small church, so I usually only had a handful of students. However, no matter the size of my class, it was important to me to give them all a solid…

Tips for Finding God in Legos, Soccer Practice, and the Land of Make-Believe

The daily vibe of raising kids is hectic, unpredictable, exhausting, and full of busyness, which makes consistent faith formation in the home seem haphazard at best.  If we search for God right where we’re at we will come to find teachable moments exist all around…

It Takes Patience To Teach Patience

Learning The Mom Life

I love playing with my kids. I love trying to meet all of their needs, and maybe a few of their wants. Most of all I love teaching them how to bring honor and…

ISSUES

I hope that all of you had a wonderful Christmas. It was a great day that I  was able to spend with my 3 favorite guys (husband, and 2 sons). The 24th on the other hand was a little rough to say the least. Here’s why. On the 23rd, I had to have a dental procedure on one of my front teeth. So, the dentist had to give me several shots of a local anesthetic (some type of novacaine) to numb the area. Later that evening, I said to my husband that it looked like my top lip…

Bible Verses to Help Overcome Emptiness and Feelings of Loneliness

Being a christian is not easy and sometimes we face trying times

where we might feel that God has left us, or that we have strayed to far away to be bought back. Spiritually we may feel lost and in need of guidance so that we may be bought back to a peaceful state of mind.

I was once in…

Elijah and the Ninja Skills

Around Lape Haven, we kind of love silly. We thrive on imagination and creativity. We choose birthday party themes based on how costume-friendly they are. (We really do.)

But I have to say, sometimes, I am still amazed at how quirky my kids can be. They provide me with hours of…

Write 31 Days - Day 4: Elijah and the Belly

This past year has brought a number of new babies to our family and close friends, so every few months, our boys were hearing about another baby being born. Either they were seeing those adorable newborn pictures in my Facebook feed, watching Mommy edit newborn pictures from the two sessions…

Accepting When I Have no Control

Keeping my head up when things are rough is hard. I will admit I had a pity party last night, but today I will keep my head up and accept that sometimes things are out of my control. Sometimes no matter how hard I work at something or how much effort I put forth things may not work out in my favor.

Two weeks ago I turned in a resume and letter for promotion to Detective Lieutenant. I have been a Detective since 2008 with a 1 year leave of absence. I also have a degree and 2 years of… Continue

Appreciating the Aha

aha

I've always believed that everything happens for a reason.  And though we often don't ever know the reason, sometimes, we get lucky enough to find out just why things happen the way that they do.  I LOVE those little "aha" moments.  They help to restore my faith and to reassure me that something greater IS actually in…

Heaven Really is for Real!

What I needed as a side companion reading Heaven is for Real while commuting to and from work was a box of Kleenex. I cried like a child reading many sections of this book.

For two years I planned to read this book, but I just got around to it now. And boy am I glad I did. This is just the spiritual inspiration I need in my life at this very moment.

This true story about Colton Burpo’s visit to heaven and his encounter with Jesus Christ happened when he almost died of a…

Single Mother's Day

View post on SingleMomStyle.com

Even though I’m a mother myself, I’ve always knows Mother’s Day to be focused around my mother and typically include the four F’s of Mother’s Day: faith, family, food and flowers. This Mother’s Day, however, will be a little different. My mom is on vacation and living up her retirement, rightfully so, but she won’t be around for actual Mother’s Day. My brother and I…

The Liberal Catholic: Part II

The Liberal Catholic: Part I

View post on SingleMomStyle.com

When I first started blogging, I did a search for do’s and don’ts. It was advised not to take any religious or political stands. However, I’m not a single parent expert or anything—I just blog about my life as a single parent. And I feel that some topics certainly affect me as a parent so sorry blogging advisers. I also want to make clear that I respect all…
