Inside Job: 5 Toxic Chemicals Hiding Right Under Your Nose

In our daily lives, we are exposed to a startling number of chemicals from the pesticides sprayed on the produce we eat and pollutants in the water we drink to the industrial chemicals found in the air we breathe.  Although we do our best to reduce the amount of chemical exposure we experience in our…

Ideas to Help Dad Relax This Father’s Day

Being a great dad can be tough work! Between long hours at the office, keeping up with projects around the house/yard, helping the kids with homework or that perfect pitch and taking turns shuttling the kids to afterschool activities and games, there’s lots to do! So what better way to make sure they…

Amazing Family Time!

I would have to say that the months of the year, that bring the flowers and green back out into the open are my favorite simply because they allow for amazing family time! Because we live in the Mid-west and experience winter month with ice, snow, and cold, it is difficult getting out to do winter activities. Sadly most of that reasoning is due to me not liking cold or being cold! LOL! So I try to let go of my “hermit” ways during the nicer weather and venture out of the house with the…

This Momma Needs A Massage! & Group Giveaway!

After the last few days, this momma needs a massage! LOL! I can't believe how quickly this week has zipped by, any more than I can believe that we are almost through June and July is just around the corner. Of course, when the week keeps you busy, it is no wonder that it has flown by. I still find it funny that even after five months, I still have not managed to establish a routine with my days, which before long will make me absolutely crazy! Though I spent so many years living by the work…

Protecting Our Kids *W/ Update

Yesterday I was offered the opportunity to guest post over the The Wondering Brain with the wonderful Jessica Dy. I have included a bit of an update from the original, marked by an asterisk below.

Protecting our kids is a full-time job in today's society, with threats around every corner. As the mother of three, ranging in ages from 10 to 19, I know that the internet is a huge draw for kids nowadays. My kids, like most, know almost all there is to know about online technology. There…

Books...An Unimaginable Adventure!

Post originally shared as a guest post at The Wondering Brain

Books provide access to an unimaginable adventure. One of my favorite hobbies has always been reading, for as far back as I can remember. As a kid, I spent a lot of time with my grandma, and every week during summer break we would ride our local city bus to our local public library. I would of course make a bee line to the children's section to select my books. I had…

What Is A Blessing?

What is a blessing? Wow, what a loaded question, right? It amazes me to think of the things in my life that I consider to be a blessing. I am sure that it is a list that could vary slightly from some and majorly for others. I have really only even started thinking about and realizing just what I have to be blessed about, in the last maybe ten years. I am not sure if it is something that most kids even consider, and I think if you had asked me at any point during my teen years what blessings…

To My Dear Hubby...Happy Father's Day

I would like to say to my dear hubby...Happy Father's Day! As I write this on Saturday night, so that it will be ready to post for Father's day, I think about how much he always wanted to be a father. During the time when he was married to his first wife, that dream could never be realized, since she could not have any more children. Of course, when he and I got together, I was able to still have kids. Now, while I of course wanted more kids, it was not something that I wanted to jump right…

A Father's Day Tribute...Of Sorts

I have noticed all of the post's lately about the upcoming Father's day and of course that comes with a Father's day tribute. Father's day, is  really a day that I don't give a whole lot of thought to. Now that is not to say that I don't cook dinner for the hubby, and get him stuff from the kids, and maybe even a card from me. But otherwise, I don't really give it a lot of thought. This will probably be a hard post to write, only because it will be rather matter of fact, so here goes.…

Just Keep Going...

I swear sometimes I totally feel like the Energizer Bunny and I have to just keep going and going and going. LOL! The other night, as the rest of the house was in bed and it was just before one o'clock in the morning, I was sitting here at my computer with my headphones in and the melodic voice of Myles Kennedy blaring in my ears accompanied by either the guys in Alter Bridge or Slash and The Conspirators, finally with a few moments to wind down from the last few days. There is nothing…

Holiday Weekend at Corntassle Cottage...

Well this holiday weekend at Corntassle Cottage was filled with various adventures. Most of the weekend was wrought with storms, and some of them included heavy rain and wind. We even had a few branches blown down onto the neighbor's house. Luckily they were not large enough to cause any real damage, just a scrap on the siding and a dent in the A/C casing, for which I am thoroughly grateful. We even managed to be able to grill out steak's for dinner on Monday evening; there is nothing better…

Organized Home: Meal Planning Notebook

A meal planning notebook is, at least in my life, essential to being organized when I'm putting together meal plans.  Rather than fumbling through my eleventy billion cookbooks and bookmarked online recipes, I can have a central place where I have an index of every meal my family loves, as well as the source for that recipe.  It also makes meal planning a relatively quick chore.  Instead of spending hours in front of the computer or with the stack of cookbooks, I can run through the index…

Organized Home: It Starts with You-An Organized Mind

Today, I'm starting a new series here on Backwoods Housewife, Organized Home.  One of my goals for the year is to be more organized, and I'm guessing that some of you have also made this a priority.  While the series will be focusing on every area of the home, I'm going to start with the most basic-an organized mind.

Ever feel like you have so much on your mind, you don't know where to start?  I mean, it's not like you're busy, right?  You're only juggling managing your household,…

Giving Thanks for Family Holidays

Ever since Martha Stewart burst onto the scene, the holiday season seems to have taken a turn for the crazy.  What used to feel like a standard family gathering can now feel like a competition for the most involved centerpiece or best twist on traditional turkey recipe.  And with all this increased effort to…
