How To Talk To Children About Death

Caroline’s last hours in the hospice were peaceful for her but they were painful for us .   When the phone call finally came that she had died, despite the inevitability, the emotion was overwhelming.

Caroline had battled breast cancer for seven years before dying at the age of 39.  In the days that followed I thought a lot about her parents, and husband, but I thought also about the children in our families as well as the children at the school  where she’d been a…

But I Wanted Wiener Wraps and Tator Tots!!

My initiation into the mom scene was a bit different than most.  It wasn’t until after I had spent a few years helping to raise my step-kids that my son was born.  I wasn’t going to be able to bond with these kids while changing diapers or teaching them their ABC’s or snuggling with them at bedtime.  This was…

5 things you didn't know about Spider Man

I seems my life lately has been dominated by super heros. Over the last few days I've learned a lot about Spider Man. I already had the 1960's theme song down, but I had no idea how dynamic this guy really is.

5 things you didn't know about Spider Man:

1. Spider Man loves to show off his muscles. All that web slinging really builds up that body. I mean, Wow!…

Chicken Little, Stuart Little, whatever ...

My son picked up a box on the couch, looked at the cover and then looked at me.

"Mom, what's 'House'?" he asked, holding up a DVD set of the TV show "House" I had just borrowed from my brother.

"House is the last name of a doctor," I told him. "He works in a hospital with sick people."

My son looked vaguely alarmed. So I decided to calm him down by using a term his second-grade class had just learned.

"But the show is fiction," I emphasized. "House isn't…

HGTV's House Hunters makes home buying look so easy...too bad it's not!

I'm an HGTV fan fanatic. Really! My husband says that I have the channel on 24/7. Maybe because I'm slightly obsessed with buying a new home and/or updating our current living arrangements -- or maybe just because the show is kid friendly and I can have it on and not worry about my toddlers hearing or seeing anything that should not.

One of my favorite shows is HGTV's House Hunters. I love that show. I mean three houses in a half hour and BOOM, the couple always seems to…

Haunted House for Sale ~ www.TheBloggingMom.com ~

If you are a big fan of HGTV like I am, you have surely seen the shows Unsellables and Get It Sold. These are just two of the many shows that feature homes that have been on the market for quite a while but haven't sold. They bring in the experts to give suggestions on how to 'get it sold'. They always say things like "fix the… Continue

Never Leaving the House

I have made the very rational, not at all hyper spastic, life changing decision to never let my girls leave the house ever again. I don't have to, really. I can home school them, order all of the things I need for them - from clothes to groceries - online, and they can get plenty of exercise playing on our acre. Under adult supervision. With a shotgun cocked and ready.

Can you tell I just watched the news?

I am really concerned about this world that I am expected to raise… Continue

Must.Clean.House

I get up this morning, head for the coffee maker, pour myself a cup of liquid energy and turn around to survey the surroundings I let me family live in.

It's bad, people. It's really bad.

The dishes in the sink smell like the failed dinner attempt I'd had the night before, the counters hold the tools that failed me so and something sticky and - ewww icky - is taunting me, daring me and Magic Eraser to give it our best shot. I feel my arm muscles spasm in… Continue

I hear me

I hear myself

On way to hospital

Gabby used to be a very sweet, loving and affectionate child. She let me feed her as a toddler probably longer than I should have, she always liked to sleep in my bed or sit in my lap to watch a movie. Giving me kisses and rubbing noses was a regular in…

Earth Promise: New Green Mileage Standards

New automobile emissions standards are on the right track. President Obama is serious when it comes to fighting our global warming dilemma, creating new eco-related jobs and reducing our ongoing dependence on foreign oil. By 2016, all auto makers are required to make new cars and trucks get 30 percent better mileage. It will be a gradual phasing in process with the 2011 new automobile models. Initially, it will cost the consumers a bit more per vehicle, but these “new… Continue
