My only goal for this year is to find balance in my life. As a full time working mom and wife, it gets pretty hectic and I feel as if I'm always trying to keep up. So this is why my one resolution for this year is to find balance in my life.
It's not as if I haven't been trying to do that, I have for a long time and it's one of the hardest thing to do. Sometimes it's as if you're pulled in so many directions it's mind boggling. It's like where do I fit in the equation?…Continue

What does it mean to be balanced?
To me, it means that you have a handle on the various elements in your life and don't feel that your heart or mind are being pulled too hard in any direction. More often than not, you feel calm, grounded, clear-headed, and motivated.
Once I was able to achieve alignment, my life flowed in a way that allowed me to truly enjoy all aspects of my life and give greater detail to them.
I wanted to share these steps to help you get your life…Continue

1. Eat Good Food: Don’t eat food you don’t like. Seriously, spit it out. Gross. Push it on the floor. Demand it get taken off your plate. Don’t even look at it. Give it to the dog, she’ll love you and you’ll never eat alone. Be in the moment. Eat slowly; put your fork down, look around, chat with whoever chooses to sit near you… dog, cat, friend... Company is company. Eat until your satisfied, or until something flashy and exciting goes by and you…Continue

This is a GREAT book of poems about life, suffering, purpose, desires, freedom, and how to search dreams. It is a book that will keep the reader reading. And after finishing the book, the reader will feel nourished and inspired to be more than just…Continue

I would have to say that the months of the year, that bring the flowers and green back out into the open are my favorite simply because they allow for amazing family time! Because we live in the Mid-west and experience winter month with ice, snow, and cold, it is difficult getting out to do winter activities. Sadly most of that reasoning is due to me not liking cold or being cold! LOL! So I try to let go of my “hermit” ways during the nicer weather and venture out of the house with the…Continue

Hindsight Tips For Your Traveling Future and a Side of Fries
The stuff was yellow. It was dripping, slowly, down the shoulder strap of my small pack which contained my passport, my money, my camera.
I hadn’t noticed the stuff, (was it mustard?) except for a nice gentleman…Continue

After the last few days, this momma needs a massage! LOL! I can't believe how quickly this week has zipped by, any more than I can believe that we are almost through June and July is just around the corner. Of course, when the week keeps you busy, it is no wonder that it has flown by. I still find it funny that even after five months, I still have not managed to establish a routine with my days, which before long will make me absolutely crazy! Though I spent so many years living by the work…Continue

How I met my hubby...He and I absolutely love getting asked that question. Simply due to the odd looks that people tend to give us when they hear the story. It never really gets old, even after all of these years! But of course, it is a rather peculiar story. Well it all started right about twenty nine years ago, I was right around eleven years old. My dad was getting married to wife number four. I think that I had only talked to my new step-mom once before they got married. I actually think…Continue

Yesterday I was offered the opportunity to guest post over the The Wondering Brain with the wonderful Jessica Dy. I have included a bit of an update from the original, marked by an asterisk below.
Protecting our kids is a full-time job in today's society, with threats around every corner. As the mother of three, ranging in ages from 10 to 19, I know that the internet is a huge draw for kids nowadays. My kids, like most, know almost all there is to know about online technology. There…Continue

Books provide access to an unimaginable adventure. One of my favorite hobbies has always been reading, for as far back as I can remember. As a kid, I spent a lot of time with my grandma, and every week during summer break we would ride our local city bus to our local public library. I would of course make a bee line to the children's section to select my books. I had…

What is a blessing? Wow, what a loaded question, right? It amazes me to think of the things in my life that I consider to be a blessing. I am sure that it is a list that could vary slightly from some and majorly for others. I have really only even started thinking about and realizing just what I have to be blessed about, in the last maybe ten years. I am not sure if it is something that most kids even consider, and I think if you had asked me at any point during my teen years what blessings…Continue

It was in 2007 when The Succulent Wives came to be a blog. Looking back we are amazed on the plethora of topics that we have written about over the years. Some were poignant, some funny and many we had completely forgotten about. As our blog has grown, so has our readership and because of that, we want to share the ones that, to this day, are still…

I swear sometimes I totally feel like the Energizer Bunny and I have to just keep going and going and going. LOL! The other night, as the rest of the house was in bed and it was just before one o'clock in the morning, I was sitting here at my computer with my headphones in and the melodic voice of Myles Kennedy blaring in my ears accompanied by either the guys in Alter Bridge or Slash and The Conspirators, finally with a few moments to wind down from the last few days. There is nothing…Continue

You would think that by now I would be used to the usual chaos at Corntassle Cottage; unfortunately, I am not much of one for chaos...then again I think I could get extremely bored without it! Though I suppose with a hubby and three, well actually four children I can't forget my son from another mother, chaos is a package deal. LOL! Each of them brings their own special brand of chaos into the family. Three of the four males are of course teens, 13, 19, 20, and there are days that they seem…Continue

About a week ago, I wrote about a guy I quickly fell for and had every intention of posting it. Unfortunately, things changed just as quickly. First of all, I cannot stress enough how instantly we clicked and how completely enamored we were with each other. Anyway, he got some news that he had to leave for a while because he’s in the military. As bad of a…Continue

Come on, we have ALL went there a time or few in our lives. You know, the time when something unexpected happens out of blue or when you look at certain family members behavior and try to convince yourself you were adopted. Yes, those times :) You may not say it out loud, but our hearts proclaim it over and over again. Doubt screams it the loudest.
I can loo…
