One of the challenges startups often face is finding time to establish a robust online presence that fully represents their business, value proposition and scope of services. Understandably, preliminary efforts are concentrated more on the service offerings themselves but even if a company offers products and services that are in high demand, if nobody can find the company, it won't be able to make a sale.
I recently connected with the owner of …Continue

Blogging is a great way to connect with a target audience on a somewhat personal level on one condition... you actually BLOG. It sounds great in theory - start a blog, write about a cool topic, get a bunch of readers to follow you, and BOOM! All of a sudden you've graduated to Perez Hilton status, with 14,500,000 estimated monthly users. Who wouldn't want THAT????
But you need compelling content that people crave. It doesn't happen overnight and it definitely won't happen unless you…Continue

Self-published authors have a pretty steep learning curve if they want to joint the ranks of the bestsellers. And I'm not talking about the Amazon bestsellers, I'm talking about the New York Times and USA Today bestsellers. Not an easy feat. It also doesn't happen for everyone. Authors can bust their tails for years and years, writing book after book and never make…Continue

A multitude of potential pitfalls can negatively impact entrepreneurs as they eagerly try to build their fledgling companies…and basically crush their spirit if allowed. In my experiences, there are four reasons that stand out the most:

Okay, it may not always work as planned, depending on your audience. But I can tell you it will make your headline click-worthy. It doesn't have to be graphic either, by the way. Just suggestive. =)
PR is EXPENSIVE so anything you can do on your own to generate buzz will reduce your burn rate. You can pitch editors yourself but if you don't have a hook, they don't have a story. The surest way to get a response is to give them the whole setup. If you can't hook an editor, you won't…Continue

I love spinning tales of romance in the Silicon Valley setting. I'm told I seriously over-glamorize the lifestyles of my heroes and heroines but whatever. I write FICTION so isn't that kind of a requirement? I mean, I have to keep things interesting. right? <wink, wink="">
As an entrepreneur, I am fascinated with goings-on in the Valley. There's such an aura over Sand Hill Road; it's just bubbling over with innovation, creativity and energy. Being part of that atmosphere,…Continue

Marketing. It's a word that simultaneously excites me and makes me cringe. Platforms are constantly changing, making it difficult to reach a target market (ahem, Facebook), prospective customers are tuning out more and more because there is a constant glut of information being thrown at them, key performance metrics that trended positive six months ago may not mean much now because marketing channels are flooded with content and becoming largely ineffective.
So the question is...with…Continue

You're a startup entrepreneur. By nature, that makes you an idea generator. It also probably means you're operating on a shoestring budget.
So you have to wear multiple hats - innovator, marketer, developer, designer - and figure out how to get your offerings to market in an expedient and cost-efficient way. Not an easy task...but you've got the tools in your arsenal. =)
For those of you without huge marketing and advertising budgets, it's frustrating to get your voice heard. I…Continue

If you want to increase employee morale, you better dig deep because money doesn't only talk, it SCREAMS.
Let's face it. People perform their daily jobs because of what you pay them in salary. It's why they work 9-5 but it may not light a fire under them to work 5-9.
Now imagine what they would do if you augmented that salary and rewarded them for their involvement and contribution to the company's successes...say at bonus time??
A startup translated as…Continue

I am a self-proclaimed fashionista.
Clothes-horse, shoe-whore, handbag junkie...you name it, I'm all over it.
But sometimes having all the components makes assembling the perfect outfit even more difficult. Like, where the heck do you find time to sift through everything and put it all together so it looks effortlessly perfect????
Ahhh, luckily for me, there's an app for that. =)
ClosetSpace is a new application from fashion analytics company Stylitics that wants…Continue

The lingering flavor of a Morningstar Griller veggie burger on your tongue...definitely not delicious-smelling. In fact, the scent might well wilt a flower if you open your mouth next to it.

Obviously there's a reason why Art Linkletter and Bill Cosby scored major benjamins off that "Kids Say the Darnedest Things" show cause, let's face it, kids blurt out some seriously funny shit, don't they?! I am always giggling at the crazy things my twins come up with, sometimes even when it's completely inappropriate for me to laugh. How can you NOT love…Continue
The MOST beautiful touching essay on being a mom!!
(you HAVE to read it!!). love, etel
If not for the photographs, I might have a hard time believing they ever existed.

ringlets and the high piping voice. The sturdy toddler with the…Continue
