The Fort Knox Candy Breach

This little Weilk family chronicle takes place about a year ago. To set the scene properly you should probably know that Max and Jake share a room when they're not destroying it with Legos and action figures. Don't get me wrong, we are a very clean family and I make sure the rug-rats properly organize it before they go to bed every night.
Anyway, this particular day I just so happened…

WHAT DO YOU MEAN MY KID IS SAYING HE'S HUNGOVER!?!

This story takes place a couple of years ago when Jake was in 3rd grade and ranks a magnitude 10 on the Richtor scale of embarrassment. This was when I was working again full time and less hopeless (I joke). Anyway, Craig and I usually spent our weekends…

Storming the Gates in the Mornings

It's official! Trying to get my kids ready for school is like waging a full fledged war on time-management! Let me break down this morning's routine as we prepare to breach the castle like some sort of crazed screaming barbarians. And yes, someone will be calling to confirm my reservation at the nut…

40 Year Old Makeup Virgin

Facts:

I am turning 40 in twelve days and I have never worn makeup in my life, okay except for maybe a few unfortunate attempts when I was 14 and angry at the world….black eye liner!

Not wearing makeup was never an issue for me, until about a year ago.  I have an increasing case of Vitiligo and it has come up onto my face, gone are the cute little freckles that used to speckle themselves whimsically across my nose and down onto my cheeks. It became…

A Women or A Mom

I have tried to spend my day updating my blog while catering to 3 very bossy, very cute, very active little people.  I realized today that the one page on my blog that could very well be neglected is my ‘A Women’ page.  It seems that all the folklore about how a mom with little kids loses herself and perhaps some of her womanhood is actually true.  I managed to shower today, but couldn’t get time to brush my hair, so its up in its standard…

Leadership Lessons of Potty Training

Boss Mom, Potty Training, Portia Mount

We started potty training D2 over the holidays. I agonized about what method to use. Three-day bootcamp method? Gradual method? No method?  Ultimately, our pediatrician gave us the best advice, wait until he is ready and you’ll know. You can’t force a child to potty train before he is ready. He’s now at the point where he can wear undies during the day and diapers at…

Richard Hatch Talks About Being A Sperm Donor

Recently Richard Hatch (yes the same Richard Hatch who won the first Survivor) wrote a post on the Donor Sibling Blog about being a Sperm Donor, Connecting with some of his Offspring and his Relationship with the Donor Sibling Registry (DSR). I have posted the article here with my response to it at the end. This article was copied from the donor sibling…

23 Sperm Donor Kids and Counting......

As a mom with donor conceived children I have been doing what I can to put the word out there that I am open to finding half-siblings for my children.  I post on my blog and elsewhere the Sperm Donors ID that we used and up until recently I had found one half-sibling on the DSR and another mom contacted me through my blog that she also had a child using Sperm donor BGM 9581 from …

Dear Donor

Dear Donor,

This letter has been 3 years in the making and many times written and erased. It brings me to tears when I think of all I want to say to you and all I would ask if I meet you. It also puts the realization into the fore front that my children, these three beautiful creatures are not just part of me, but part of an unknown! Everyday I look at them and watch them grow I can clearly see me in them, but the other parts, the ones that are so obviously not me, I can only assume…

None of Your F@*#ing Business!

More often then not I get asked “Did you need help to get pregnant?” “Did you have to use IVF?” “Do twins run in your family?” because I have twins.  My initial reaction is to respond “Non-of your F@*#ing business”, but a smarter part of me tells my brain to answer politely even although it really is no ones business how I became pregnant, they are only asking out of shear curiosity and not meaning me any harm or hurt feelings.  But I also always wonder if they would really want to  hear the…

Aunt Jemima Frozen Breakfast #Giveaway

If I could only eat one meal a day, it would be breakfast. I love, love breakfast. I love breakfast so much that when I am feeling too lazy to cook dinner, I'll whip up a poached egg and turkey bacon sandwich or (my very favorite) banana pancakes. When the Aunt…

One Day at a Time

Lately, I have two types of days. A good day, and a miserable day. Today was a good day. I took a leave of absence from work to deal with what's going on in my life. Good for me and my kids, terrible for my wallet. But my routine became to wake up, take kids to school, come back home, crawl into bed and just lay there. Sometimes I would sleep away the day, escaping the misery I was feeling, other days I would just lay there…

Baby Gear Mom: Citrus Lane

When you have a baby, the needs evolve as quickly as they grow.  Before you know it, they’re in the next stage of development, learning and messiness.  So what do you give your fave baby bundle as they mature?  Citrus Lane is one interesting idea.

Think of it like a wine of the month club – but for baby… Continue

A Back To Work Breastfeeding Bag

My lovely maternity leave came to an end this week.  The evening before I realized I had a whole new bag of goodies to lug with me back and forth on work days:  my breast pump and its accessories.  As I was packing up my bag I thought it may be a good list to include for any new moms returning to work or moms needing to take their breast pumping on the road.  Here is a list of items that I included in my bag:

  1. Pump, Cones and Pump Bottles
  2. Freezer Storage Bags for Pumped…

A Common Conundrum for Parents: Childcare Expenses that Drain your Pocketbook

http://www.meritworld.com/

I can empathize with new parents when they talk about the seemingly-impossible task of finding great schooling that doesn’t break the bank.  Sending your preschooler off is hard enough emotionally, and becomes even more challenging when factor in your requirements: you want it to be a stimulating, educational, and reliable start and a comfortable place for your kids to be while you are at work.…
