The Social Media Time Vacuum

I am totally guilty of getting sucked into Twitter.  And Facebook.  And now Pinterest.  It doesn't help that as a small business owner with a limited advertising budget, social media is a great way to meet new clients and advertise.  I may say I go on for my business, but I know I stay for the pleasure of social…

Needless to say, I am on my one month vacation and the days are real hectic, I am happy being with my daughters in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, after three years, Oh my God, the feeling is amazing, I missed them so much. It's really like been a long time that we haven't been…

I Am NOT The Perfect Mom!

Contrary to popular belief, I am NOT the perfect mom.  Far from it, if truth be told.  I do not pretend to do everything right, because I don't.  I didn't get the memo or read the book with the instructions of what a "perfect mom's does."  I march to the beat of my own drum, take things a day at a time, make up things as I go and occasionally mess up.

Since I have been off work, I cook dinner more than I have in the last 6 years.  When I was working 50+ hours a…

Heaphone Hair!

As a mom that produces music from my home studio, I have been known to sport a special hairstyle I call, “headphone hair.” It’s hard to describe but there’s a unique shape the hair takes on from a day of recording. We’ve all been known to sport that “hat hair” look but when you wear headphones for hours on end it’s a special look of it’s own. Recording is such a timeless venture. One guitar track can take hours and once I dive into the process I’m usually sucked in for the…

Just Had To Get Out There!

One of the many hats I wear is “preschool music teacher.” In my music classes there are those kids that simply have to be heard. I see that star fire in their eyes and on their faces. They simply need to stand out, shine and share it with everyone!

I understand this. When I was 5, my dad took my brothers and I to a big theater in Cleveland, Ohio to see Captain Kangaroo live and on stage, along with his side kicks, Mr. Green Jeans and the Dancing Bear. It was all very exciting and it…

My Mom’s An Alien!

My first preschool music gig was at my son’s school Miss Sandies when he was 4 years old. I was so excited to be able to sing some fun songs with my son’s classmates, and especially with my son! That day we had music time outside since it was a beautiful spring morning. Out comes my son’s class all excited and they situate themselves on the picnic tables. We began with a good ol’ round of ABC’s and their sweet voices filled the air. Pure joy was written all over their faces as they bounced…

A Baby File

I had one of the those "If I Knew Then What I Know Now" moments at my sister's baby shower recently.  While I tried to keep our registry to what I truly thought we would need, there definitely were a few items that found their way into our collection that I look at now and think…

The Fort Knox Candy Breach

This little Weilk family chronicle takes place about a year ago. To set the scene properly you should probably know that Max and Jake share a room when they're not destroying it with Legos and action figures. Don't get me wrong, we are a very clean family and I make sure the rug-rats properly organize it before they go to bed every night.
Anyway, this particular day I just so happened…

WHAT DO YOU MEAN MY KID IS SAYING HE'S HUNGOVER!?!

This story takes place a couple of years ago when Jake was in 3rd grade and ranks a magnitude 10 on the Richtor scale of embarrassment. This was when I was working again full time and less hopeless (I joke). Anyway, Craig and I usually spent our weekends…

Storming the Gates in the Mornings

It's official! Trying to get my kids ready for school is like waging a full fledged war on time-management! Let me break down this morning's routine as we prepare to breach the castle like some sort of crazed screaming barbarians. And yes, someone will be calling to confirm my reservation at the nut…

40 Year Old Makeup Virgin

Facts:

I am turning 40 in twelve days and I have never worn makeup in my life, okay except for maybe a few unfortunate attempts when I was 14 and angry at the world….black eye liner!

Not wearing makeup was never an issue for me, until about a year ago.  I have an increasing case of Vitiligo and it has come up onto my face, gone are the cute little freckles that used to speckle themselves whimsically across my nose and down onto my cheeks. It became…

A Women or A Mom

I have tried to spend my day updating my blog while catering to 3 very bossy, very cute, very active little people.  I realized today that the one page on my blog that could very well be neglected is my ‘A Women’ page.  It seems that all the folklore about how a mom with little kids loses herself and perhaps some of her womanhood is actually true.  I managed to shower today, but couldn’t get time to brush my hair, so its up in its standard…

Leadership Lessons of Potty Training

Boss Mom, Potty Training, Portia Mount

We started potty training D2 over the holidays. I agonized about what method to use. Three-day bootcamp method? Gradual method? No method?  Ultimately, our pediatrician gave us the best advice, wait until he is ready and you’ll know. You can’t force a child to potty train before he is ready. He’s now at the point where he can wear undies during the day and diapers at…

Richard Hatch Talks About Being A Sperm Donor

Recently Richard Hatch (yes the same Richard Hatch who won the first Survivor) wrote a post on the Donor Sibling Blog about being a Sperm Donor, Connecting with some of his Offspring and his Relationship with the Donor Sibling Registry (DSR). I have posted the article here with my response to it at the end. This article was copied from the donor sibling…

23 Sperm Donor Kids and Counting......

As a mom with donor conceived children I have been doing what I can to put the word out there that I am open to finding half-siblings for my children.  I post on my blog and elsewhere the Sperm Donors ID that we used and up until recently I had found one half-sibling on the DSR and another mom contacted me through my blog that she also had a child using Sperm donor BGM 9581 from …

Dear Donor

Dear Donor,

This letter has been 3 years in the making and many times written and erased. It brings me to tears when I think of all I want to say to you and all I would ask if I meet you. It also puts the realization into the fore front that my children, these three beautiful creatures are not just part of me, but part of an unknown! Everyday I look at them and watch them grow I can clearly see me in them, but the other parts, the ones that are so obviously not me, I can only assume…
