Homemade Baby Food Menu Planner

After my post "My Homemade Baby Food Making Plan" I received requests for more details into my process.  Well ask and you shall receive.  I have broken down fruits, veggies and grains into Flavors, Flats and Fillers.  In the early months I would give him a single selection (starter fruits…

My Homemade Baby Food Making Plan

I've had a couple of friends recently ask me how I find the time to make homemade baby food.  I try to explain it's not necessarily a matter of finding time but making the most of the time you have available to make the food.  Which of course means I have have an organized plan when I sit down to make the food...'cause…

Never Too Old for the Playground

After the nutty shaving cream fight on Saturday, Sunday was not measuring up on the fun scale.

I really didn't have anything planned but my kids' half sister, Gracie, was getting antsy as all first graders do.

The sun was out so I grabbed my camera and we loaded into the Yukon for a mini field trip to Ithaca's Woodland Park.  They have an updated safer play area towards the back of the park but I still…

The Toy Dilemma

The overwhelming issue when I work with moms is too many toys in the house.  The toy manufacturers have done a fantastic job of convincing both kids and parents that they need the newest, greatest, latest, updated thing-a-ma-jig.  Despite the fact that the previous version of said thing-a-ma-jig is still…

Calling all Mompreneurs defines a mompreneur as "a female business  owner who is actively balancing the role of mom and the role of entrepreneur." It may sound simple, but combining these two important and delicate life roles is time consuming an at times, overwhelming. Dear Donor

Dear Donor,

This letter has been 3 years in the making and many times written and erased. It brings me to tears when I think of all I want to say to you and all I would ask if I meet you. It also puts the realization into the fore front that my children, these three beautiful creatures are not just part of me, but part of an unknown! Everyday I look at them and watch them grow I can clearly see me in them, but the other parts, the ones that are so obviously not me, I can only assume…

We are lucky enough to have arranged our work schedules so our little guy is at home with one of us while the other parent works.  At least most of the time.  This week is the first time we had to take to him to a sitter outside of the home.  I gotta tell you, I have mad props for the moms that do this every morning.

I sorely underestimated the amount of planning and effort it would take to arrive at both the sitter and my appointment on time.  I went to bed thinking "all I need to…

To Grandmother's House We Go

It dawned on me this morning that next week is Thanksgiving and I am going out of town with my little guy for 6 days.  Did I mention I have yet to travel with my little guy any longer than a few hours and never overnight?  I figured this would be a great time to put together a list of what needs to come with us when we're heading out of town overnight.  I spent a few days jotting down items I use for the care of my little guy on a daily basis and determined what I need to bring and what can…

My Handy Little Wristlet

I'm a new mom with ants in my pants.  Well, maybe I'm not so much ansty as busy.  Along with my newborn I have a part time job, a business to run AND I'm trying to maintain a small amount of an adult social life.  I know I am not the only mom with this kind of a schedule.  Along with changing places I am frequently…

Letting Go!

Letting go seemed as though it has been a major theme in my life this year. I had to let go of my daughter. She went away to college. I had to let go of my middle son. He went away to college. And I had to let go of my eldest son who transitioned from completing college to entering the workforce. Many people ask me, “How does it feel to know that all of your children are ‘grown’ and ‘gone’. I usually respond, “It feels different!”

Learning to let go can be difficult. For me, I thought…

Yesterday I became a published author. Not an author of a whole book, but a published contributing author. A published, contributing author in a book that was printed and showed up on a bookstore shelf. The latest Chicken Soup for the Soul New Moms came out yesterday and you can find me on page 231.

Who needs a therapist? It's amazing what a little retail therapy can do to soothe the soul!

So, it's one of those rainy days in sunny San Diego.  I'm holed up in the house with two little girls and bored out of my mind.  What do I do?  Well while my two daughters partake in a PBS-feast, I log on to the Internet and start checking out some "sales."  Dangerous?  Yup.  Especially when you can find some great deals, i.e., no added costs (taxes) and free shipping.  But what else?  How about finding even more… Continue

February - The Month of Love, Mystery and Forgiveness

The month of February focuses our attention on love.  Cards are bought, candy is given, kisses abound.  What is it about love?  We simply cannot get enough of it.  “I love you” and “I’m in love with you.”  Is there a difference? Yes.  “I’m in love with you” has more infatuation and projection attached and “I love you” has more of day-to-day companionship attached.  Each has its mystery.  Mystery, by definition, cannot be completely understood.  I like the word mystery because it elevates a…
