Tips to Prevent Getting an Infectious Disease While on Vacation

Dr. Brent W. Laartz thought he was in for the ride of his lifetime when he set out on a horseback riding excursion in Costa Rica.

Admittedly younger and more naïve than he is today, Laartz – an infectious disease specialist and author of the book How to Avoid Contagious Diseases…

I love Rice Krispie Treats!  I thought it would be fun to make Cinco de Mayo Rice Krispie Treats for our Cinco de Mayo Party.

Easy Mexican Buñuelo Recipe

Last year my son had a culture day assignment where he wrote on our family Mexican heritage, he made a paper Mexican doll, and he could bring in a treat to share with his class.  I decided to make buñuelo’s for him to bring in.

My grandmother and my mom make "real" buñuelo’s with homemade tortilla dough and they are delicious.  I decided to take the easier route and use store bought flour…

S'mores Recipe for Kids

Camping isn't on our list of trips for this year (maybe next year), but I still wanted to introduce my kids to one of the great camping experiences ever... S'mores! There's just something about the ooey, gooey, stickiness of the marshmallows and the sweet, smooth chocolate that is enough for me to deem camping as one adventure that everyone must try... at least once in their life. (Of course, there is the beauty of nature and all the creatures you may not normally see, but I'm speaking…

Chicken Patty Melt

A few months ago, I created a last-minute meal I now call "chicken patty melts". What is interesting about this meal is, I created it out of boredom, and laziness. I had taken chicken breasts out of the freezer earlier that day to let them thaw out. My original plan was to make a chicken stir fry, but once I thought about all of the prep work, it mentally exhausted me. (I wish I were being dramatic). It just so happened I had a craving for a melt of some sort. So I decided to wing…

One Recipe, Three Meals

One Recipe, Three Meals

My crockpot has become a dear friend over the past 6 years... Pretty much when I started having kids. Its so easy to throw all your ingredients in, cover, and the let magic happen. Whether you work outside the home or from inside the home, there's nothing better than to smell the wonderful aroma of your dinner cooking and to know that all you have to do is grab a plate and fork. Sigh. There are a plethora…

How Do You Make An Amazing Green Smoothie

I absolutely LOVE starting each day with a Green Smoothie. I have to say, when I first tried one, I was afraid to drink it.  I mean it’s green.  Who wants to drink green stuff? I still can’t get my children to try it because, 1) It’s green and 2) They know there is Spinach in there.  After one try, I was hooked.  There is no better way to start my day.  But …
