When your kids start school they have to memorize a variety of things. They need to know their home address, home telephone number, spelling words and so much more.
I am going to share what I do to help my children remember their weekly memory verse. You can use this technique for anything.
My children currently attend private school and every Monday in their homework packet is a memory verse from the Bible, they need memorized by Friday.
Don’t get too excited… Continue

I just had the BEST, BEST day with my 6 year old. She’s about to head into Grade 1, and we hit the mall for some back to school shopping together.
Do you look forward to back to school shopping or is it something you dread as the school year approaches?
I love shopping for anything or anyone, but I’ve learned that shopping with 3 kids can be a challenge… each waiting for the other to try on different items. Eventually the boredom sets in and it’s hairy-scary… Continue

Last month, the school sent home notes announcing the first quarter parent/teacher conferences were to be held the second week of November. Conference sign-up sheets were at school and we should stop in ASAP and schedule a meeting before all the slots filled up. Since my memory is about as reliable as the pull-out method, I wrote myself a reminder note. … Continue

Last week, Lexi had an assignment which required a poster-board. Actually, it didn’t require a poster-board, notepad paper would have worked too, but it seems like the new generation of teachers prefer everything from a haiku to a spelling assignment completed on poster-board. It’s like these teachers are compensating for something else. You know what they say about a teacher who assigns over sized homework, don’t you?… Continue

I was bullied and run out of school when I was 11 years old. It was horrible. So horrible that I’ve made a conscientious effort to stuff my feelings good and down ever since. Then the recent stories about kids and online/offline bullying and the tragic consequences began running rampant through the media, and all those suppressed feelings resurfaced. That’s just great. Twenty-five, perfectly good years of denying my feelings, and… Continue

We were all up earlier than...well, you'd just hate me if I told you the last time we were up early enough to watch the 'Wake-Up' news. What can I say? Our kids don't wake-up before 8 a.m. And I realize mentioning this is a little like skinny people complaining that they can't keep the weight on and don't workout, and they eat whatever it is their little hearts desire. So yes, my kids are good sleepers. However, I can't consumer dubious… Continue

I’d forgotten how much easier a summer without a child in diapers can be. I imagine this also applies to diaper wearing adults, as well. Not trying to deny any one particular groups’ hardships here, I just don’t know any diaper wearing adults. As far as I know, my friends and family all enjoy control of their bladders and colons. And chances are when one of them becomes incontinent, they’ll update their Facebook profile status to...… Continue

Whitney starts kindergarten next week, and in preparation for the big day the kindergartners practiced riding the bus, with a parent, to and from school. So yesterday morning, Whitney and I climbed on the bus and road to her new school where we met her teachers, but more importantly for Whitney, she got to fill her cubby with school supplies. Her own little piece of real estate. I think I’ll start telling people my four year old successfully… Continue
