The Kim K Barbie

I'm a recovering Barbie-addict. I played with them until I was like 16, and I still would if I didn't have all boys. I'm a little burnt out on trucks, pirates and Spiderman, so anytime we're at someone's house and they have little girls, I'll immediately wonder if they have Barbies. I even have a method:

  • I'll make eye contact with the girl. Whether she's across the room or simply in the seat next to me, eye contact will be…

All Kinds of Wrong - Vintage Folger's Commercial Circa 1950's

Welcome to the first installment of "All Kinds of Wrong" on the Multiple Mayhem Mamma blog.

You may have surmised by now that I'm somewhat sarcastic and have low tolerance for nonsense. As well, I have a penchant for all things referencing to the past, my youth and prior as well.

The combination of these two facts has resulted in something that I've wanted to do for a long time: analyze vintage television. Commercials and TV shows from bygone eras have both…

Unrealistic Reality TV

The obsession with my newly found identity crisis led me to believe that the labels put on SAHM’s strictly came from the 50’s and 60’s Susie Homemaker persona; however, the eruption of shows like The Real Housewives of… (pick a city, any city) has 21st century housewifery represented as gossiping cats with faux fur who claw at each other at social events. This new 21st century housewife has no responsibilities except to keep a high social standing and…

How mocking and judging others has made our marriage stronger

We’ve recently introduced a new show into our TV watching repertoire called Surviving the Cut. We happened by this show somewhat unintentionally, since I had initially mistook it for some kind of reality-dance-audition-series. I’d DVR’d it, anticipating an hour of leg warmers and men in butt-tight, cutoff sweat pants rolled up into their nether regions. But instead of watching some coked-up choreographer shouting, ‘People...and five, six, seven, eight...!’ we ended up watching US… Continue

How Advertisers Manipulate Children

I was shocked the first time my daughter parroted a TV commercial back to me; she was two and a half! I was amazed that the marketing was able to hit its mark and make an impression on such a young child. Here I was, unsuccessfully…

300 Channels and Still Nothing to Watch

Ever notice how there is never anything to watch no matter how many channels you have? Ever notice how your choices are even slimmer if you are trying to find something for your preschooler to watch during the DAY? Please explain to me how the only shows my preschooler should be watching are on in the middle of the night?

19 Kids and Counting!

I am a fan of the Duggars. I admit it. I love this show. Don't know why I just do. I think in some ways they are seriously nuts. But in other ways I admire them so much. And if you are not familiar with them you can read about them on their website The Duggar Family. And of course their TV show on TLC "19 Kids and Counting". I am going to write…

Get to bed! It's time for 'Lost!'

I got many things from my mom: My brown eyes, brown hair, love for reading and penchant for procrastination.

I also got my somewhat intense devotion to television shows. At last count, she had about two dozen programs on her TiVo season pass, and as her child, I've always known you don't mess with mom when she's watching her TV shows.

I don't currently watch a lot of TV, not since having kids; as every parent knows, sitting down to watch an entire show is a luxury once… Continue

A Star is Born on the Internet...Literally!

Have you heard about the woman who's going to give birth live on the internet? That's right, according to Boston.com, Lynsee (that's two "E's"), a 23 year-old teacher from Minneapolis, is going to bring forth her 1st child live on camera for the whole world to see.

Am I shocked? Not really. Grossed out a bit, but not shocked. She's going to famous. Really, really famous...for like half a day...maybe longer if she goes for the Petocin. Now who doesn't want that?

According… Continue

My Haunted TV and Microwave......

A story to tell for Halloween/All Hollows Eve. This story is not scary but strange and perfect for the season.

Let me set the stage.

We moved into our house 5 years ago this month. When we moved in our house our belongings were still in MI so the people we brought the house from left all the things they did not want behind. One of the things they left us was a console TV. How cool or so we thought. The TV had a mind of its own or was controlled by something other then us.… Continue
